If they're struggling the spot should be around the wrist. If they're actually struggling with the weight and you just push up their elbows they can lose it on top of their head. The point of a spot is for safety and technique, pushing at the elbows does neither of these.
I know this was made 2 years ago, but to anyone reading this, don’t listen to this fool. ELBOWS is the better option period.

I'm sure you're speaking from a place of exercise science and not just continuing to perpetuate something incorrectly because some random gym bro / personal trainer taught it to you. Notice how I provided a rationale for the recommendation and your response provided nothing, because you don't understand what you're saying or why you're saying it.
