I’m passionate about Industrial Design from yesteryear as well as modern classics and all things with engines...... Automobiles, Motorcycles, ATV's, Antique Radios, Mid Century design and more. Too many interests and not enough time. (Oh, and did I mention Fox Body Mustangs too?)
Honda Ridgeline, What it Is and what it is Not.
More details, features, benefits and differences from other Midsize Trucks. Quirks and nifty features plus what I don't like about it.

There wasn't much on TH-cam about this model so here are my thoughts.....
I’m 69 and I’ve owned trucks over every kind since I was 16. You could say I’m a truck guy. There was a time I might have agreed with the nay sayers. Not anymore. Aside from the work trucks I’ve owned, there are few times that a Ridgeline wouldn’t be big enough. I’d say that most truck owners never use a truck for what it’s built for. I’m seriously looking to sell my F250 to get a Ridgeline. Thanks for your video
What do you use the power rear window opening for? You said you use it all the time. Just curious.
When the weather is good and you just want to use the vent setting, opening the rear window provides better flow through ventilation without buffeting
We had a Pilot (which this is based off of) and the ONLY thing we replaced in 200k miles was the alternator...good luck getting that reliability out of a domestic brand vehicle
Thanks for watching. What about your Timing Belt at 100k?
@@DB-ph5vk I did that also..but I don't consider it a repair..it was part of the maintenance. ..
also..for me...the low bed is nice for loading kayaks...all you need is a bed extender!
Looking to buy my first Harley next week; local dealer has one of these with 20k miles on it for $7,000. Seems like a pretty good deal. Hope it's not too heavy for me to maneuver in a parking lot.
I'm considering getting one of these, most likely used. However, in my research, I've found out about an issue that seems to affect around 75% of Ridgelines. Water entering the cabin through the back wall and/or above the rear window. I'm assuming you haven't had this issue? They say that at the factory, it's believed air got in the lines of the seam sealing robots. Worth mentioning, you can feel the wet carpet in the back seats; you have to pull up the sill plate and reach your hand under the carpet.
I haven't noticed and I have 34k on the truck. Now I'll have to check, Thanks for watching
@@DB-ph5vk Please report back. I made a typo though. Meant to say, you *can't* feel the wet carpet and instead you'll have to pull up the rear door sill and feel under with your hand. I'm hoping this isn't as big of an issue as the internet makes it out to be because I want to trade in my '24 Maverick for one. Cheers!
Well, we've got rain instead of snow for the next few days so I'll do some checking. Just curious, what don't you like about the Maverick?
@@DB-ph5vk I very much dislike the comically harsh ride. They made the suspension so rigid, likely for the sake of payload capacity. There are also so many rattles, a few of which the dealer has taken care of and add to that, the confused transmission. I've given Ford 2 chances recently (2022 Ranger and this Maverick) and I think I'm done.
Sorry to hear that. The Ridgeline is quite refined and the ZF 9 speed Transmission is seamless. I was sold after test driving it but then again I wanted a car that also does the truck stuff I need on ocassion. Look for an RTL or RTLE not the base RT and don't waste your money on the HPD or Black package. Best of luck to you.
Those wheels look fantastic on that truck. Good choice.
Thanks..... 20" Take-offs from a 2022 Honda Passport. In my opinion, they look better on a Ridgeline than on a Passport
I have a 2012 switch, sun glow red. Had a few issues with it, but I still love the bike. Bring back the Dynas.
I now have a Road King but miss the Dyna's lighter weight
We need another ridgeline video its been a while
Thanks,, yes its been a while. I have quite a story to tell about my deer strike so stay tuned....
I can't wait to get one
Bought a 2023 and it is everything I needed. When I need something bigger I have a 3/4 ton Chevy that has been paid for for over a decade.
The Ridgeline will also shift into Park if the door is opened while in Drive, and your seatbelt is not on.
It's the Cadillac of trucks!
That KINGQUAD is so CLEAN!
Well not always ....... 2015 KQ with Brute Force 650 wheels and it's usually muddy!
Nice ride do you have the link to the windscreen
I don’t have an ATV or Ridgeline, but I did enjoy the video. Nice work. I like the way you showed and talked about safety
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words 👍👍
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
What year are you speaking of?
2022
Just got my 2025 Black Edition...love it! Thanks for the video!
Enjoy.... and thanks for watching.
@@DB-ph5vk Just wondering if you put any mods on your Ridgeline like the IdleStopper or S-VCM?
@@Radwinskee installed idle stopper and it works great
My wife just purchased an RTL-E to replace her 2018 Cadillac XT5. So surprised but pleased at how great this vehicle is. It's our first non-American brand and we couldn't be more pleased. So long GM. You're not even close.
Good move but it's just a little hard to park due to it's length. Enjoy.....
I just purchased a 23 RTL specifically because I love the captains armrests, and the new 24 model switched to a center console. Saved me a bunch!
The fold down armrests are a huge plus. I can't imagine not having them and I don't understand why Honda removed them from the 2024. Good move buying the 23' model!
Does the leveling kit mess with the driving pov with weight in the rear
What fairing do you have on there?
Memphis Shades Batwing
Great video! 👍 Did anybody installed an S-VCM on their Ridgelines? Thanks!
Not yet but I plan to after i'm out of warranty in a few thousand miles. Try: www.odyclub.com/threads/s-vcm-controller.372273/ for some advice
I drove 1/2 ton, full size trucks for years. Having that experience, I've found the Ridgeline to be everything those trucks were and more. It's easy to get in and out of, drives like butter and is the most comfortble truck I've owned. I think the aesthetics could be improved, but I'm past the point of needing the coolest truck on the road. Pound for pound, it's the best truck I've owned.
It's a lot of Truck for the money by today's standards, its a great size and the ride is un-truck like
Just bought a 2023 Sport...such a smooth vehicle!
Just bought a 24 black ed ridgeline. My truck history from 2000 on. F350, f350, ram 2500, ram 2500 Megacab, f150, f150, Yukon xl, ram 3500 dually, ram 1500 eco diesel x2, ram 1500 Laramie. Now the Honda. Got what I need this time around. Gets better mpg and toes better than advertised. Quiet and comfortable. The bed storage trunk is awesome. Holds 4 5 gal buckets and then some.
I have a '24 Lunar Silver RTL with the AVS window deflectors and I love it. I like the stock wheels too. You mentioned an RTL E. Is yours a '23 or a '24? I thought they git rid of the E for '24 and you would have to jump to the Trailsport to get the heated steering wheel, etc
I have a 22' RTL with 20" wheels off of a Passport EXL. I may have mentioned not needing the extras on the RTLE like Navigation and in-bed sound.
@@parkwayclassics8443 Thanks, that makes sense. I did hear you talk about swapping Passport wheels.
It does look 👀 better
We are looking at the Ridgeland right now. I think we’re going to buy one next week. We like how it opens either traditional truck way or side open as well for the bed. Like the hidden under storage too. I think we going to be very happy with it.
Your truck looks good great video 👍
A bit surprised the mileage is that low. Car and driver said they averaged 28MPG on their 75MPH loop.
How does the ride feel with the new wheels? Better, same, worse?
Better handling because there's less side-wall roll over and very little change in the ride. I'm running 255/50/20 tires. The Honda Passport uses a 265/45/20 which is wider but lower profile resulying in a harsher ride
@@parkwayclassics8443 I also find lower profile tires don't do well in the snow.
Beautiful truck. I’m currently shopping for one. The wheels are awesome. Did you level it?
it is a great look! but a Rivian is just awful looking, your truck is the opposite! Well done.
I just purchased a 2024 ridge line rtl , traded in a 2016 ram bighorn. I agree with your video 100%, had that truck 8 years and loved it, but didn’t need. Absolutely love the Honda. Forgot to say I’m retired from GM.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. I'm at 30k now and still very happy that I bought the ridgeline. it does all the truck stuff that I need it to do but rides like a car which is 95% of my driving. I used to be a die hard GM guy but sadly, they got complacent and are now a sub-par manufacturer across most of their platforms.
Did the leveling kit affect your sensors for adaptive cruise or emergency braking? And did you have to adjust your headlights at all for the new angle with the leveling kit on?
Funny that you ask this question. It will not affect the ADAP system is it has to allow for heavy payload and changes in geometry unless you have a front end accident and need to re-calibrate the ADAP system. It's then that you have problems. I'll be doing a video on this soon. Headlights were just a tad too high (in a good way) but I never adjusted them
Hey guy. Excellent to know just hit engine stop and it goes to Park. Thanks !! And no torque steer, good. I got the 2024 Black Edition, before they maybe go to some vertical computer screen sticking up with electronic “virtual” buttons buried in the screen. Adaptive cruise, I’ll miss Subaru Eyesight trailing cars down to zero mph, I hear Honda kicks out at 25 mph. Maybe look at the Honda parts for color keyed, a bit 3 dimensional, body side moldings. Some protection from dingers and I like the looks. That and 3M stick on clear nose bra really protects hood from paint chips. Thanks for your honest info. Everyone just needs to figure out what is best for themselves and that’s that.
Thanks for your input ! For months I was all in on new Frontier, very quiet inside, that was nice surprise. Liked the trucky look. But winter snow and ice, going back to part time 4x4 kept gnawing at my brain. Rear end slip-sliding around, having to flick 4x4 knob on and off. For in town gray geezer not wishing to pull anything, mostly just haul an e-bike that weighs about 80 lbs with gear, the Frontier was overkill and larger turning radius, less power to the steering, not exactly optimal. In a matter of just two weeks, once I determined enough front legroom in Ridgeline, I totally switched to Ridgeline Black Edition fully loaded, is time for some coddling comfort on the roads of life. Good stereo, no fumbling with keys, cooled ventilated seats, heated steering wheel I’ve found I love when driving wife’s car. For myself, mostly FWD bias and heavy motor over those wheels, and a fully automatic solid kick in of the rear, is a good thing on snow and ice. Ridgeline sits at a really nice height, do not need a step ladder to get in. I look forward to rolling quite smoothly and with quiet roomy cabin on down the highways of life. Ridgeline looks to hit an overall sweet spot.
Well said! I would agree of course, not to mention that the Frontier has no telescoping steering column. That in itself was a dealbreaker.
Agree with all the positive comments, on my second Ridgeline and we love it.
I absolutely agree with you. This car was created for people who love the comfort of a normal car but need a body for farming.
Great video. I recently got one myself and I love it, perfect daily driver, only thing I wish the stereo system was better, it's one of the worse stock sounding systems in my opinion. other than that awesome truck
What undercoating do you recommend?
I'm not a fan of undercoating. I'd use something like Fluid Film or Blaster Surface Shield
I'm glad you brought up the HPD package. Honda flooded their press fleet with base Sport models with HPD package and got so many TH-cam reviewers complaining about the cost and comparing it to a Tacoma for the same price. Honda really should have put the RTL-E or Black Editions for the press fleets and just sent press materials about the HPD package. Interesting how so few "journalists" mentioned these other packages and instead just pooped on the stripped down, overpriced HPD sports
Exactly..... If early reviews in 21' on the "Refreshed" Ridgeline would have been on the RTL or RTLE the press and the TH-cam world would have been raving about how much value was there. But as you mentioned, Honda was releasing base sport models with the HPD package that misleads people into thinking it has added off-road prowess (which it doesn't) and it does nothing but run the price up.
Great video! Being a man who has owned 2 Toyota trucks for a total of 37 trouble free years, I do not approve of the massive turn Toyota has made. It appears that Toyota has abandoned its core base solely for profits. Presently, I’m torn between the Ridgeline and the Frontier. I don’t need a 4wd and I know the Honda is a AWD. This is a tough decision!
Well done videos Thanks Have the 23 BE. 17K miles. Run 35 psi in OEM Firestone Dest tires Maybe my imagination but at new seemed to run smoother quieter? Now seems like a lot of jarring noisy feeling. Specifically traveling asphalt with those horizontal filled in cracks .. on some roads. Roads that have no cracks all ok then Advice to smooth it out? Run 32psi?
Firestone Destination tires have a great all-season tread design but get noisier with age and dont wear anywhere as well as they'd lead you to believe. I ran a set on my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee as well as my Wife's Jeep Liberty, replaced at 40k. Only got up to 12k before I put the 20" rims with Goodyear tires on the Ridgeline so I didn't notice them getting noisy.

Honda Ridgeline deserves more credit and respect within the truck world.
Love your truck, Nice upgrades.. how has the maintenance been so far?
Just oil changes and tire rotations. The Deer strike is another story for an upcoming video
I just bought a Honda Ridgeline RTL...yesterday. What a super nice truck. Comfortable, good power, great driver features. Just super pleased. Now let's see if I can get 200K miles on it.
