    Don, I found this video very helpful, thank you for your time in presenting this. One thing I did not have much luck with was in coloring the epoxy. I want to get some bright colors and found it difficult to get that much dye mixed into the Magic Sculpt or Apoxie Sculpt. I found the same thing with the mica powder. This is what I used- Epoxy Resin Pigment - 16 Colors Translucent Resin Colorant, Highly Concentrated Resin Dye for DIY Jewelry Making, AB Resin Coloring - 10ml . From Amazon. Any suggestions? Thanks , Bob

    Hello, great video on metal spinning. Quick tip. When you're using the file, lube the file with chalk or soapstone. Just rub the chalk on the file, and this will help prevent the file from loading up with metal.

  • @donsayre8318
    @donsayre8318 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use A Axe Handle with A 40 Degree Saw Cut in the End of it. Lube the Metal. Then use the Axe Handle to pot about A 35 Degree Bend in the Outside Dia. Of the Metal. This is called A Stiffener. This will help to Stop Rinkling the Metal. Most in portant in Spinning is to get the Metal Tight on the Form Block in the Beginning. I have Spun Metal Ranging from .010 Aluminum to .040 Titanium or Inconel. I called the Hard Metal Fire Spinning.

    which are the typical drop spindel dimensions? lenght and diameter of the stick? thickness and diameter of the disc? I think I've got 12 inches long, 3.75 (i don't know the unit) diameter. About 50 grams total weight. About 3/4 disc thickness, no diameter data. Please confirm.

    What is the safest way to do this with a longer piece of lumber?

    • @independencewoodturners8957
      @independencewoodturners8957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. I'm not sure what you mean by "longer". I don't know that for this purpose it would need to be very much longer that it would affect this process. I suppose you would be better off drilling the hole using a horizontal drilling method/machine. Or, for instance, build a platform for the lathe bed so that you could clamp down the piece being drilled. Then, as far as turning the offsets, much longer wouldn't give you much of an "oval" unless it was a larger diameter workpiece. Which, in that case, you should probably reduce your speed and make sure it is securely held between centers.

    What type of camera are you using and where did you purchase. I have my system set up now with a Bluetooth endoscopic camera. Problem is the battery life is short. Would like a camera that is not rechargeable but wall powered.

      The camera I’m using came with the Simon Hope system. Almost any very small camera that allows fairly close focus should work. This one is small and cylindrical and looks to have been fixed into a small aluminum support base with silicone glue or hot glue. Go for a very light camera but a solid support rod system to counter vibration. Should be similar in concept to a laser support system. I’ve even heard of some people using an old smart phone but I wouldn’t recommend that.

    Excellent video! I have a question for Ben if you can get it to him. Does he do anything to the wood before adding the dyes? I'm thinking about how some woods splotch when stained or dyes so we sometimes use a wood conditioner or a thin coat of sanding sealer before staining.

    • @bensimmons3812
      @bensimmons3812 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug, don’t know it you got my earlier response. Some woods might benefit from a conditioner but I usually don’t use it. The effects I’m working for take advantage of the splotching by blending/adding colors. I use the sanding sealer on top of the dyed surface but carefully so as not to lift out the color.
