Let’s Fix It Right is all about helping you fix it right the first time you attempt a home project to save money and give you the personal satisfaction of doing it yourself. This means that you will not have to hire expensive contractors, rebuild your projects, spend additional money buying your material and hardware again, and waste a lot of time. Most important of all, my videos help ensure that you will not to go down the road to failure, get discouraged, and quit.
In support of my TH-cam Channel, I have more than 55 years of practical experience fixing it right dating back to my dad’s coaching and my teenage woodworking experience. With engineering degrees from West Point and Texas A&M University, I also leverage this technical expertise. Combining this with my film making “know how” I acquired from working at the Boeing Company, I have learned how to develop efficient and easy-to-understand videos that will empower you to “fix it right” the first time you attempt a project.

Stamped Concrete
In this episode, I am working with an accomplished contractor to remove and replace my outdated and deteriorating epoxy resin covered concrete patio. I’m replacing it with a beautifully stamped or more commonly known as a decorative concrete patio surface. This job is beyond most DIYers. So, I recommend that you go the contractor route for anything similar to this patio job. Most importantly, this video will guide you through the decorative concrete process to ensure success on your job.
With that in mind, I recommend that you use this video for the following items:
• Use this video to develop questions for contractor interviews
• Show it to potential contractors to define your requirements
• Ask your contractor you to review this video to develop a solution that matches your home’s architecture and meets your requirements
• And lastly, but most importantly, use this video to monitor your contractor’s performance and keep him honest

I followed all steps, it fixed the leak in my handle but now it is leaking underneath the sink. I don’t think I am putting the cartridge in correctly, it doesn’t lock in and is easy to remove
I have a three month old Pfister faucet similar to this one and the stainless steel ring was stuck. I had to be much more aggressive with it to get it out and it is now damaged. Now the brass ring will not come off either. I have to pull this faucet completely off. I am not impressed with these faucets at all. 3 months of ownership and the hot side no longer works. I can't even get to the cartridge to see if that's the issue. Is anyone else experiencing issues with these? Mine is a Pfister Talega.
like
will this work with the #1 every drop ice and water filter? it has two protruding valves with O-rings out of the top. Item model number is edr1rxd1.
Great video - thank you. The purpose of the screw in the cartridge - you referred to it as something that has to do with the handle. My plumber replaced the cartidge but left that screw off which I discovered today after the handle was leading. I simply tightend up the brass screw wing until replacement parts come from Pfister. Can you tell me more about what the Phillips screw's purpose is and how far it supposed to extend from the cartridge?
Bill, Fantastic to hear that my video was a great help. Sorry to hear that your plumber lost the set screw. Per your question, the purpose of the set screw is to keep the handle screw securely in place so it cannot excessively move back and forth and damage any of the internal components. When your Pfister parts arrive, I recommend that you install this set screw as soon as possible. Otherwise, I appreciate your interest in my channel. Hello Sir, I just installed the same springs rated for 130 lbs and confirmed that the door weighs around 125 lbs. my issue is that the spring when stretched is 69”. Door is balanced. What could be the fix?
OrangeRed9218, Sorry to hear that your garage door springs did not work out. From your description, I’m guessing that your garage door will NOT stay closed. If this is correct, I recommend that you install an electric garage door opener. Within the range of $150 to $250, you can purchase a good one on Amazon. Most garage door openers similar to mine have a precision adjustment that enable you to fine tune the exact closing distance between the bottom of the garage and the concrete below. I figured out the issue. My initial weight of 130 lbs was wrong. I weighed the door again and this time I removed the tension completely. Correct weight is 140 lbs. Replaced the spring with 140 lbs (blue color) and the length is now 64” when stretched.

Tim, Recommend that you recheck the video (1:31 to 1:45), where I used a 3/32-inch Allen Head wrench to remove the set screw at the base of the faucet handle. If you don’t have a set screw, you most likely have a different brand of faucet? If so, you should be to download a manual from your manufacturer showing how to disassemble your faucet. How much stair skirt should show? From stair nose to top of stair skirt? Thanks
El Matador, As I explained in my video (3:40 to 3:53), I captured this edge by laying a 1 X 4 MDF Board on top of the stair noses. A 1 X 4 board is 3 ½ inches wide. Looks good, I was wanting a continuous rail, meaning when the rail comes down to the landing at say the standard 38 degrees, it would then transition into a horizontal railing and on downwards. The angles would be glued and probably use some wood dowels to join the miters as the 38 degrees gos to 0 degrees (flat). Did you have a separate video on this?
JC, Great idea! You could definitely do this! Sorry, I don't have video on this. However, my Episode 70 shows how to cut a stair handrail using a sliding jig. You may be able to use this concept to make perfect cuts. Don't forget to measure 3 times prior to cutting. Great video series. Question for you: The CapATread instructions say to start with the bottom riser and alternate installing tread and risers all the way up. Is there a reason why you cut and installed all the treads first and then did the risers?
PolskiFil, Glad to hear you liked my stairwell video series. Great question!!!!!!! Per your question, I installed the treads first and the risers second. I opted to install the treads first so I could focus on perfectly cutting the sides, which are easily visible to the eye at all times. Consequently, the back of the treads did not have to be perfect. The risers, which I installed later covered the rear cuts of the treads making the rear of the treads appear to be perfectly cut. In addition, like the treads, this enabled me to focus on perfectly cutting the sides of the risers. In addition, the tops of the risers did not have to be perfectly cut, because the riser tops are not visible to the eye because the front tread over hangs prevent you from seeing the riser tops at most times. Lastly and most importantly, these perfect cuts enabled me to install the treads and risers with perfect cuts that did not require caulk to fill any gaps. Caulk on a stair case is an ugly site. As time goes on, caulk picks up dirt and grim and causes the tread and riser fits to look horrible. Glad to hear that my stairwell video series helped and I appreciate your interest in my channel. I have a fountain with a large base pond so can’t blow it out, but I’ll use your trick for the two basins! I use a spare garden hose, run one end downhill or to a drain if possible, then prime the hose from the hand sprayer, putting them both into the water for about 20 seconds until the suction gets going to siphon all the water out. Granted I do have a 20 foot slope to the street 😊

Have you tested the water with a new filter and then with the reused filter to make sure it's working?
Rattlehead M, This is a good question. Thanks for asking it. Yes, I have done this and I have found that a reused filter using my cleaning process in this video is just as good as a new one. Otherwise, I appreciate your interest in my channel. I retired recently and have plans for another 200 to 300 great videos.
