What can we learn from the "Dementia Village"? with founder Janette Spiering
In this episode, I am delighted to welcome Janette Spiering, who is the founder of the Dementia Village in the Netherlands. Janette shares how she bought her vision to life, the challenges she had and the impact this revolutionary way of supporting people with dementia has had on individuals but also on the way people with dementia are supported worldwide. I ask her if this model be used for people with other support needs, listen to hear her thoughts.
Jannette Spiering is founder of the Hogewey vision on care for people living with dementia and founder of The Hogeweyk® , world’s first “dementia-village”. Jannette has been working in care since 1982 and has almost 40 years of experience in operational, tactic and strategic management. Jannette focusses particularly on the elderly care & dementia care sector and community-based aged care.
Keywords she uses are: de-institutionalization, transformation and normalization of the current and established vision of elderly care.
She is a strong advocate for humanizing care and calls for a radical change, a paradigm shift, from the prevailing medical model to a social approach to ageing and dementia.

    Another great video Lisa with loads of knowledge shared! You mentioned about most providers paying Market rent, or lha rates + 10%, what do you think about companies like social housing group, citygate and the likes who are claiming they work with providers offering £1000-£1500 per month above market rates for properties? Are they legitimate? They do the r2r model, where they rent from landlord, and then rent back out to providers for the markup supposedly

    • @SupportedLivingProperty
      @SupportedLivingProperty 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your kind words. I can’t really comment on their model but I do know rents in the supported living sector are under greater scrutiny than ever before and local authorities are looking to see justification for rates for all exempt rents. I also know most of the quality providers I work with are not keen on leasing properties under the rent to rent model.

    Iv been living in supported accommodation for just over two years now and iv moved about 4 times because of no support and no help at all. Before we sign the paperwork we are told that we will get support we will get food vouchers and we will be helped with going on a course but after signing the agreement we only see a so called support worker once a week and he only wants you to sign the paperwork so he can show that he supports us then we get to see him every 4th week so we can pay them the service charge most places charge 70 pounds a month for nothing . Many of the houses are dirty filthy and there are no cleaners but we get told a cleaner comes once a week and cleans the communal areas. But we clean the place ourselves. There are very good places aswell but you have to find them somehow and its not that easy because the amount of fake places are everywhere. We can not even complain to anyone because there is noone, i complained to the council but they came out and sent me a email saying the place is run very professionally. If you suffer from mental health problems then these places are the worst places to go to you will only get more stressed out. It would be good to be able to get a one bedroom flat im 49 years old suffer from mental health and been here does not help but its not easy to get a place you can start to call home. I hope something will be done about this these ppl are abusing the system and raking in thousands of pounds a week

    Lisa This private landlord space for social housing is interesting and the social housing model has becoming popular with Chinese investment. The main driver is really profit over purpose but I agree with building better product, as in co-living which creates a better environment and experience that delivers likeminded tenants. This creates fewer void periods and is good for the landlord. If Toby could share more of his vision and passion for private landlords in this space, it would be of interest.

    • @SupportedLivingProperty
