Dryandra National Park | Birds and Numbats
มุมมอง 570ปีที่แล้ว
In September 2022, we took another camping trip to Dryandra National Park in Western Australia. This park is home to a few endangered species and is one of the best places (if not the only place) to see numbats, chuditch, woylies, and more in the wild. At the end of this video you'll see the famous numbats in their natural habitat, foraging and going about their lives peacefully as we watch on....

Numbat | Dryandra Woodland National Park

We managed to see these guys at the very last moment as we were driving out of the National Park. I spotted what looked like stripes, stopped, and managed to find three numbubs hanging out together with no sign of mum. When it became apparent the closest one was getting a little shaky about us, we moved on to leave them be. To date, my best experience with numbats!
Western Quoll | Dryandra Woodland National Park

Last time we were in the Dryandra Woodland, we had the amazing and unexpected opportunity to film a curious Chuditch that entered our campsite. It kept coming back, obviously looking for food. We weren't prepared, so the footage isn't great, but I'm pretty stoked to have even seen one, let alone catch it on video.

      Hey mate, no worries. We went with Birding Tanzania w/ birding guide Anthony Raphael. We were there in November during the short wet season, so it was pretty green and most of the birds were at least halfway into their breeding plumage, lots of activity. To get to Speke Bay you have to fly to Mwanza and then drive ~2-3 hours north by mostly bitumen roads. The lodge is beautiful with everything you could want, great accom and food. Good luck with your trip! Reach out if you have any other questions I'll try give you a hand

    • @jakeharfield8516
      @jakeharfield8516 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mahadak100 to give you some idea, our first checklist from a ~3-hour walk in the morning at Speke Bay Lodge had 78 species. Over 3 mornings we got about 130 species there, including some rarities flying across the lake and a Blue-headed Coucal (which is out of range there) in the papyrus.

    • @mahadak100
      @mahadak100 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jakeharfield8516 thanks a ton mate for all the details so far. I'm thinking of doing a mix of safari game drives and atleast 2 days of birding at speke Lodge. Trying to find am operator who can give a reasonable quote. Also did you do any trips from speke lodge like a boat ride or something to see the nile crocodile and nile monitor lizard? Kindly share

    • @jakeharfield8516
      @jakeharfield8516 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mahadak100 No problem at all. We did a mixed wildlife/birding trip and everywhere we looked was expensive, so I hope you find somewhere affordable! We saw Nile Crocodile and Monitor Lizard at the lodge itself---we had about 8 of the monitors right outside our room at one time, so unless they are less active when you go, I doubt you'll miss them! Crocodile is basically guaranteed at the river crossings in the Serengeti as well. The Lodge offered some boat trips to local fishing villages, but our guide recommended against them as we were visiting other villages and could use the time better. If you walk around the lodge during the day, you'll see the tracks of hippos that are active at night. In fact it's quite dangerous wandering around at night there! We also saw a Bushbuck and groups of Dwarf Mongoose on the grounds.
