From Doing the Work to Driving the Work
What it takes to be successful typically at the doing level is day-to-day details orientation and what it takes to be successful at the leading level is big picture orientation. New leaders rising from doing to leading may find themselves challenged as they move from what might be a comfortable place in the details and in the day-to-day to a long-term big picture perspective that requires them to shift the way they're using their minds.

No system lasts untouched the test of time.
มุมมอง 26หลายเดือนก่อน
Think again about the human body, right? Over time, the systems in the body slowly begin to struggle. The same is true with talent systems and organizations. No matter how beautifully built and how well aligned they were when you designed them, there will be drift over time. Get your systems in place, monitor them, and constantly improve in order to maintain functioning and success within your ...
Numbers don’t exist in nature
มุมมอง 78หลายเดือนก่อน
“Numbers do not exist in nature. All numbers are a product of human effort.” Where we can get tripped up with this is when we think about how we measure and assess performance. We tend to think that because something is a number, it must be true, it must be objective, when in fact, all numbers are subjective and filtered through the human brain at some point in some way. Better systems, better ...
Thinking Deeply About Performance
มุมมอง 2812 หลายเดือนก่อน
In my field, I.O. psychology, we have something that we call the criterion problem. What this refers to is our tendency to fixate on what we're hiring on and what we're promoting on, but not enough on what success is, what performance looks like. The criterion problem makes it very difficult for us to hire and promote appropriately and effectively. To get past it, you need to do two things. Fir...
Performance is more than productivity

For an organization to truly succeed, you need things like what we I.O. psychologists call organizational citizenship behaviors, which is giving back to the organization and to other people in it. You need things like leadership, mentoring, coaching, conflict resolution, teamwork. You need all of these, not just how many hours people are working or what they're producing or how much money they'...
Rethink Success

Where do our definitions of success come from? We often consider success to be efficiency, productivity, quantity. Those definitions of success reflect values - specifically, the value that the purpose of human beings is to produce at high volume. How else might you think about success what might success really look like in your organization? #performance #talent #success #dei #leadership

Organizations are Systems
มุมมอง 503 หลายเดือนก่อน
Are you not getting the results you want out of your talent systems? A rigorous organizational diagnosis will help you figure out exactly which talent systems need attention and how to bring each into alignment with your purpose. Your organization is a system in the way that the human body is a system. So let's think about the human body. We have a circulatory system, an endocrine system, a ner...

hey, I am considering taking up I/O Psychology, but I have one doubt about it. On the daily, will it require a lot of researching? I am good at researching but I dont enjoy it. I would really enjoy making people’s lives easier through better policies though.

Do you need a master's in order to obtain a PhD?? I'm planning on returning to school for a bachelor's in I/O psychology but want a master's in a different business field (business management) and then consider getting a PhD in I/O Psychology. My end goal is to be an educator and thinking about the route I should take

this is good to know. I've been getting discouraged because I just started a MS in IO and have been looking on indeed for jobs (just to see what other experience I need) and nothing was coming up. I was searching for the wrong keywords. I think with my 5 years of experience (by the time I graduate 7) in the nonprofit sector at a director level. I should be okay. Totally going to get a certificate in HR just to make sure I have job opportunities once I graduate.

Can somebody from India who have worked in IT field for 2 years pursue Master's in I/O Psychology? If yes, can you please let me know the paths that I would have to follow. As I am from non Psychology background, is it required for me to do some internships/ coursework in the similar field? If yes, please let me know from where should I find them. If no, let me know which universities accept Indian students from a non Psychology background. Thanks a lot :)

Aren't you the best? Is there any way to learn I/O Psychology under you as a Professor. Would really love to meet you someday ❤️ You resemble to what I look for myself in upcoming years. I know I am watching your videos in midnight after an year of them getting uploaded. But this is what I really really wanna pursue from all my heart but I am so much confused how to give a kickstart and is it even possible to switch my career straight away from IT (2 years of experience) to I/O Psychology. I am from India, not even sure if these programs require Bachelors in Psychology mandatorily or if there are some opportunities where I can directly apply for Masters. Although this video was very helpful. But again need to figure out the variants of Masters in fact. I am more tending towards the practical part rather than the research. Can you please guide me more on the same. Thank You very much. :)

It's amazing how much word salad there is in this video. This is the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever come across and I've been to my fair share of farms down south. How can spew so much nonsense without actually revealing anything of substance. You could barely explain what you and your ilk do. What value do you actually bring to anything for goodness sake. All you're proficient in is praising yourself. If the field of io is all about vomiting words at people and then patting yourself on the back then it is most definitely not for me. Thank you for showing me what not to do with my life.

hi, i know you mentioned we should apply to 3 reach/3 match/3 safety, but what if there are only a few schools you would even want to go to and they all happen to be more of reaches? what if your match and safety schools are not schools you would realistically want to attend? should you kind of suck it up, apply, and if you are admitted attend anyway if a PhD is what you want, regardless of the university? i hope this question made sense.

I'm looking to go into Psychology but kind of getting discouraged by the types of jobs that are available to those who have a degree lower than Master and PhD. When doing research into what focuses are available in the parameters of Psychology I/O stood out. I love bringing solutions, ideas, and other things to organizations that need it. Would love any other information you have as im planning on going to school next year. I also just subscribed. You're awesome
