I am Andrew (Andy) Luder, and this is LuderCo Arms. I am a gunsmith and a mechanic/millwright. Most of my videos will deal with repairing anything and everything, but mostly firearms and 4 wheel drives. I will try to post a new video every 3 or 4 days, but bare with me, as I am a full time millwright/mechanic in a paper mill as well as run my own gunsmithing business and repair vehicles and everything else that life breaks around here..........

Hey , what company did you buy the solenoids from ?
Rock Auto www.rockauto.com
noticed your also missing the fromt skid plate . Where did you mount the disconnect pin you use when disconnected. . I thought of using a strap but the sway bar can rotate down to contacting the springs so that doesn't worn unless you make a removable pin to hold the sway bar up away from the springs but the sway bar lint contacts the spring at the full up position. Just wanted to know what was your solution. I have almost the same links on mine and it is also missing the skip plate . Priced the skid plate and average was above $100 . Thought of Fab a plate but cost of materials is about the same. I'm working on making a bolt on plate to mount the disconnect pin to . but I don't weld. Adjustable Front Swaybar Quicker Disconnect System Upgrade for Wrangler 1998-2006 TJ Cherokee 1984-2001 XJ with 2.5" - 6" Lifts Visit the Timilge Store on amazon.
I never mounted the pin for stowing it. I have a huge bag of very large zip ties, I use two to zip up the links to the sway bar, and another to keep the sway bar held up. I just cut it all loose when I am done. Very low-tech, and zip ties are cheap when bought in bulk.
Thank you so much for the socket size and tips! My dad passed in 2019 and not having him to help me definitely sucks.. trying to do everything myself has been frustrating so thank you again for the help 😊
I am happy the video helped you, thank you for saying so!!
I guess this was done before it got totaled out by the drunk?
Yes, the weekend prior to her mass destruction
Nice job Andy. That didnt look to be that bad of a job...
Not bad at all, a very nice setup.
What weight is yours rated for?
1000 lbs
One of the solenoids has a different bracket. So I know which spot to put the new one that has the same thing The other two look the exact same so how do I know where to put the two new ones
Have you checked or replaced your harmonic balancer?
Sorry to hear man! sucks about them changing your road and not having barriers or something. I lost my xj *of 16 years* cuz some dumb lady back in September was on her phone and ran a redlight only reason i got any money is because i had a dash cam.
It sucks when we pay for other people's stupidity! Thanks for watching!!
Yeah unfortunately I felt the sting of the insurance company like that too about 8 years ago I had a 2000 Grand Am that thing was modified heavily it was pretty nice some idiot smashed into it and all I got was two grand for it couldn't even find one of those to replace it for two grand
yeah, that's the same thing we are running into, they gave us $4200 for the RAV4, you can't find one in half as good a shape as ours was for that kind of chump change. It's very frustrating to say the least!!!
Damn that sucks Andy.First a hurricane and then some drunk ass bitch..I feel for you buddy..
Yeah, it's been a rough few months!!
good helpful video, bro ! I prefer the original rubber motor mounts.
thank you!!!
Good job. My 99 XJ with 285000 miles still shifting smooth as butter. I do trans fluid drains and refills about every 15000 miles. I have never changed trans filter nor has pan been removed
That's the way to do it, if you can do it from the start. I doubt mine was ever changed before I bought it three years ago.
Nice job Andy. You got off easy.I have 4 oxygen sensors to replace on my 2001 Jeep XJ..
Thanks!! That 2001 have the 2 part exhaust manifold?
How much transmission fluid does it take?
Drain and refill, 3-4 quarts. Full drain and filter change, 8-ish quarts
Camber shims for the later model wranglers with the Dana 30 can be found on Amazon, 1.0 and 0.5 degrees, and they’ll work on the XJ’s as well.
May look into that next time I have to do the ball joints, thanks!!
@ The shims are made by Specialty Products on Amazon and the part numbers are listed as 1.0 degrees # 26014 and 0.5 degrees # 26012. I used these on my 99 xj about 4 years ago and they’re still holding up just fine and I do quite a bit of Overlanding. Hope this helps with any future issues.
@@StandAloneAdventures I will try those out when my offset ball joints need replacing, thank you!!
@@ludercoarms You’re very welcome my friend, love your XJ by the way!!!
It's nice when you give all the tool sizes. I'm 72 years old and getting up and down is a chore. Great video!
I try to, and since I know some folks appreciate it, I will try to do it more often. Thanks!!!
Put some Diablo 3” wheels on there and it’ll last forever. They got different types of blades as well. I got the same cut off and it’s great!
I will give the diablos a try, Thanks!!
Nice job Andy.It would have been a good time to remove the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. With the throttle body on the work bench, you could replace the sensors...
True, but I did that when I had to remove the intake manifold to replace the exhaust manifold, and that was less than a year ago.
You are the man your daughter is lucky and my dad will freak out in the middle of the process lol
Thank You!!!
Do you have a model number? zj fan clutch
NAPA part number 272310
@@ludercoarms thanks u
I just did this to a '94. I bought it from a tow yard without test driving it. Tranny wasn't shifting so I replaced the solenoids. That's when I found out the transmission control module was missing. Got one off Ebay and still no shifting. I got out my old trusty power probe and sure as shit the wire harness running to the transmission was cut where it runs over the top of the tranny. Once again that old power probe paid for itself. The XJ shifts perfectly now. I never would have found those cut wires without the power probe.
Yeah, a power probe is very useful!! Thanks for watching!!
thanks for the video! You have given good basic information to jeep builders all over the world. Thank you for the visual explanation and good presentation of information.
Thank you, glad to help folks out!!
Cam angel, sucks. Thanks
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to keep the camera pointed and do the work at the same time. Thanks for watching!!
Nice job Andy...
Thank you!!
thanks for the video, there is ZERO information that I could find about this kit! I just pulled the trigger on it, it is definitely a well built kit! and rides amazing! I get why you said everything was fighting you, those tag on flag nut strips were a pita!
Thank you, glad it helped you out!!
Quick question, how does the header wrap help the XJ? I have only used that stuff on motorcycles and SBC
It does not help the XJ at all performance wise, but it prevents me from adding to the collection of burn scars on my arms and shoulders from working around hot exhaust, and keeps the rock lights that are on that side of the frame from getting melted.
Great job on the video. Enjoyed it.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Andy.I was just looking at this saw today at my local Farm and Home Supply store.I already have other Dewalt tools so I would just need the tool only.About how long could you run it on a 5 or 6 amp hour XR battery?
It comes with a 5 amp hour battery, and most of my others are also 5 amp hour. Hard to say exactly how long it will run, as it depends on what you are doing with it. But I had a medium white oak layed over, and it delimbed the entire tree on two batteries. I felt like the run time was pretty good and comparable with Dewalts other 20V tools.
No time for unboxing when you have a few tons of trees laying all over the place. Up in a tree that electric saw won't need to be choked, cranked or warmed up.
It worked great for what I needed it to do for sure
Did it work? Nice video. Guns and xjs are right up my alley😂
It did solve the shifting problem, Thanks for watching!!
What size tires are you running?
When this video was filmed I was running 33x12.50/15 BFG Mud Terrains. Now I am running 35x12.50/15 Cooper Evolution MT's
bruh why does everyone always skip putting the pan back in, mine doesnt fit back up in a obvious way and i forgot how i turned it to get it down
It will depend on which transmission crossmember you have, as to how much wiggle room you have. When I bought the Cherokee it had a rough country lift and it was a pain to remove the pan. Now I have a Rusty's four link, and the crossmember has clearance to remove and install the pan strait up. Could not hold the camera pointed at it while installing it, don't have enough hands. If I remember correctly, you have to wiggle the rear side up in and then tilt the front up. Try it without the gasket/silicone until you figure out the best way, and then put the gasket and silicone on. Hope that helps.
Lots of work ahead of you. I hope you have good neighbors that don't mind helping each other. I'm blessed we didn't have that much here in N.E. Georgia. Best of luck to you and your family.
Thank You!!
Damn Andy.I forgot about you being in South Carolina...Im glad you and your family are all okay..
Thank You!!
Tons of wood and tons of work, I'm so glad you came through the storm. You were well prepared and met the challenge.
Thank You!!
Thanks all the way from alaska
Thanks for watching!!
My XJ is a 99 with a non Collapsible sterring column ,weird huh? Unless its not working correctly?🤷♂️
Check to see if it is rusted together? I would have to see it, but it *should* be a collapsible one.
thanks for the video, i think i have to do the same. greetings from germany
Thank you!!!
Excellent compact tool for use in my truck. Ordered one! Thanks for your practical video.
@@Lordoftheflatbush thank you!!
What coolant did you say you used? I’ve been having a hard time finding the original green coolant these older Xj came with. I also have a 98 Xj that I daily drive and am working on building it up similar to yours. I enjoy your channel and your Xj 😎👍
I have been using the yellow "universal" coolant from Fram and Peak since I too have a hard time finding the old green coolant.
"Overcooling" missing thermostat?
@@o2wow no, it has the proper thermostat. Overcooking is not an issue for now.
Also do you have hood vents? I seem to remember your XJ does. What about some good spacers as well as vents?
@@BradMillsOK I have spacers, no vents yet but that may be in the future
I’m so lucky my 98 does not have the cooling issues. Seems some just have it and some don’t.
It looks like you had an upgraded fan clutch already. That is probably why the shroud wouldnt clear it...
@@danhambrick6331 might have been, was a parts store one I put in when I bought the xj
Have you ever checked out the calibration on the OEM temperature gauge ? Have you ever added in a new temp sensor and ran it to a Autometer Gauge to see if there OEM gauge or the OEM temp sensor, etc.
@@mitchschwartzburg3483 yeah, checked gauge and sender against another I had laying around.
What ball joints are those? And is that a stock axle?
I believe they were moog or rough country. I went on rock auto and ordered the one degree ball joints I needed. The axle is a factory Dana 30, but has been trussed, sleeved, and converted to manual locking hubs, 4.88 gears, and a spartan locker.
watching you under your jeep without eye wear gives me PTSD. Mine's so rusty it would be a certain eye injury.
Lucky for me my XJ is relatively rust free!! Thanks!!
Thanks Andy..Yeah for $20 that was a no brainer...
Yes, I was surprised by how good it was for $20.00! Thanks!! (Still recovering from hurricane, little to no internet right now. Still have videos queued up for the next few weeks, hopefully will have internet back up before I run out)
