    There were three Great Silent Masters: Keaton, Lloyd and Chaplin. And Laurel & Hardy. And Langdon. The rest are exceptional, but second choices. The scores of CD are the best ever

    These were teams of horses. Notice how they step over the police manican. When we see a later movie, we see two horse who aren't matched. That is there're not used to working with one another and don't know whether to go right or left. As such, they pull against one another. You see in the final part of"Girl Shy."

    I actually have several of HL's films when they came out on VHS and the soundtrack was dolby and a superior one than what we here today. I've only played them a few times so they should be in good shape. The score is not the boring one earlier but a vibrant, dolby and creative one. i think I have four.

      The context in the movie is that Lloyd's fiancé's grandfather (the old man with the pocket watch) owns the last horse drawn street car in New York. The old man in the limo is a streetcar magnate, and wants to buy the horse streetcar's line so he can hold the monopoly on streetcars in the city. Earlier in the movie he offered to buy it at a reasonable price for its value. But when Lloyd's character learned about the magnate's attempt to create a monopoly, Lloyd said they wouldn't sell but for 8x that amount. The magnate then decided to force the line out of business through crooked tactics. In the finale, the magnate had his men steal the streetcar, taking advantage of a legal clause that said if a streetcar line is out of service for 24 hours its contract is void. Here, Lloyd has managed to steal the streetcar back, but he has less than an hour left to get it back across the city. That is the chase seen here.

    • @hebneh
      @hebneh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@potblack6043 Well, he may have saved the horsedrawn streetcar line by beating the deadline, but in terms of real-life technology, it was doomed anyway.

    • @potblack6043
      @potblack6043 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hebneh They did mention that for the happy ending. When the magnate saw that his dirty plan had failed, he agreed to meet their price. They ended up selling the line to the magnate for $100,000, Harold and his Fiancé got married, and they honeymoon at Niagara Falls.

    • @lawfulbeneficiary1731
      @lawfulbeneficiary1731 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hebneh I actually disagree loads of people would go on horse drawn carriages now merely for the experience due to it’s not something you can do often so would be a tourist attraction. For example black taxis in London are extortionate but most people go to London to see the main attractions and to ride in it regardless of the price due to london being the only place with iconic taxis which makes it the hub for tourists and rich/middle class people

    • @hebneh
      @hebneh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lawfulbeneficiary1731 People today might ride a horsedrawn vehicle for fun at a tourist destination, but when this movie was made in the 1920s, these were outmoded and no longer viable for daily transportation in a city. Nobody was sentimental about them then.
