The 11 minutes that ruined Hollywood producer Allan Carr's career forever
มุมมอง 2.3M7 ปีที่แล้ว
From over 30 years ago - This is the infamous opening song and dance number to the March 29, 1989 awards show, with Rob Lowe singing to Snow White, dancing tables and so much more. This bombed so badly that the show's producer, Allan Carr (who made the movie GREASE) found himself shunned by Hollywood, and spent the next decade in relative seclusion until his death from liver cancer in 1999. Gre...
That actually wasn't as terrible as people claim. It represented Hollywood perfectly. Cheesy, over the top and sometimes not much sense made.
Since then we have seen worse. !
Rob Lowe really thought he could sing. OY!
Merv Griffin hit an all-time career low with this one.
A better Snow White than the upcoming Disney live movie. 😮😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
idk I thought it was endearing. The very corny setup and presentation comes across as the most adorable thing you can see a bunch of grown adults do. The stars doing their little dance it so cartoony and silly that its genuinely enjoyable
It's a disjointed clusterfuck but well produced and entertaining and it pays tribute to classic stars. I dont see the problem. I'd probably tune into award shows if they didn't take themselves so damn seriously
I now know what turned Robert Downey. Jr. to drugs.
Did she say parties at the Coconut Grove??? Sorry sorry I’m from Boston !
The audience was seemingly loving it .
All the openings are trash. Idk y this one destroyed this man’s life
I like it! Whats wrong with people??? Lol..... i think if you give it enough time, things come back in style. Lol.....
I remember watching this live back in the day and thought it was just another homage to Hollywood. It was hokey but harmless. Doesn't deserve all the hate. Some parts are cringeworthy by today's standards.
It's a Hitler in spring Time moment
Rob Lowe, great singer 😅
Well, in hindsight. It's not so bad.
Rob is not a singer is he?
That was getting progressively worse and worse. Oh my!
It isn't that bad. I don't fully understand why Snow White was there or why it was so princess themed (with Tomlin losing her shoe like Cinderella). If one of the princess movies was a recent hit or if there were MORE princess references it would make more sense, like Hollywood ARE the royalty of America so it isn't completely bonkers and it was certainly family friendly and fun.
what happened
It's the sort of thing I might dream when I take too much melatonin before bed.
It doesn't seem as bad looking back now because the pretentious over produced garbage they pump out these days isn't even as good as this was... the only thing missing here is snow white taking the mic and denouncing its snow whiteness. Oh and all the gay guys dancing around aren't in rainbow thongs. Change those elements and it could have been from last year.
Still better than Ziegler.
Imagine having to blow Allan Carr for your shot at stardom and THIS is what you get
This is such an odd……whatever this is.
Saturday night on a cruise ship vibes 😂
This was almost as bad as Grease 2.
I thought Can't top the Music with the Village People ended his career. This was the only gig he got after that movie I'm pretty sure. This definitely sealed the coffin, but he was on the outs prior to this!
It's better than what they are doing these days!
Idk, it seems like every other musical number from an awards or variety show from back then.
It’s not as cringeworthy as Trumps singing red white and blue girls but at least Snow White got paid.
I think it was great!!
What's meant to have happened here? It looks like one of those old timey cheesy USA television spectaculars. Not my thing, but it's hard to say if I would have been into it if i had been alive at the time. I went with my family to see the Rockettes Christmas spectacular live on stage when I was about 18 or 19, and I totally didn't get it but I tried to be polite about it. -- edit -- Okay, from reading the intro it looks like I was alive when this came out. But i was 8 years old, and probably would have been generally more receptive to it just because of the exciting singing and dancing. I was pretty obsessed with David Copperfield at that age.
They hired the Grease guy and were shocked to get a big, gay, surreal doo-wop dance sequence? That'd be like hiring George Lucas and being surprised to receive a Star War. The fuck did they expect?
I actually enjoyed it 😊 maybe seeing all the old stars we don’t have anymore 😢
Ok, no. The dancing tables are THE best part! 😂 Also the crazy big dress and Chinese theater hat at the end. The rest was just fine. Not exactly bad :/
Ghastly.
This is 1000x better than a 20 minute monologue from Jimmy Kimmel.
And now the Oscars themselves are dead lol
3:15 I’m starting at this part I get a real Beach Blanket Babylon vibe from this production. I love it! 4:26 OMG who could hate on this whole thing 4:42 OMG!!! Icons across the board!
Allan Carr, you did well! Rest In Peace ✨⭐️
Guess this might go better with some shrooms.
Never watch anything Hollyweird on shrooms 😂😅
@@nbaoldgirl 🙂
Ridiculous and disjointed. What is the theme? Coconut Grove? "Proud Mary"? Why? It makes absolutely no sense and arrives at no conclusion. There is no story being told that I can see.
why is it so damn long
The Oscar is the god Pan. The stars are fallen angels.
I dont know, doesnt seem any worse than the current openings. '89 was a crazy time. Billy Crystals songs and Letttermans insane Late Nite take were some of the best openers but this is par for the course for a dance number at an awards show as I recall.
I totally agree with you… also I love Billy Crystal! He can do no wrong.
I mean, this is bad, but... bad enough to ruin someone's career? I dunno, Hollywood must have been a wildly different place back then.
I’m loving this. I know I watched it when it originally aired but I don’t remember it 😂
😮 wow!😮
I don’t get why this was considered a bomb?
I’d take this over the crap they do now 🤷🏻♀️
