Always! It's a good set of submissions but I think a much better set of positions. If I can get some kind of triangle then I can control so many aspects of the game.

The black belt is a black belt in judo and has 7inch height and at least 80 pound weight advantage. Zero chance of winning the takedown battle so I chose to pull guard. Not unreasonable at all. Obviously he knew what I was going to do and decided to just play that game as well. He is nice about his size difference and just wants to have a good, fun roll so it works out

@@RicklePick-bu8tg Cheers! But I'm curious, from a strategy point of view, why would I intentionally enter into the specialty of my opponent? For example, I wouldn't try to triangle a huge guy with a giant neck and shoulders. I wouldn't try to straight ankle lock somebody ultra-flexible opponent. Why would I stand against an opponent with significant size advantage that also has a much, much more developed judo and wrestling skill set? What would you recommend I should've done?

@@zackhulett7236 In order to get better you have to challenge yourself against people better than you and sometimes that means bigger. I’m sure your training partner is well aware of the size and skill advantage he has. I’m also sure as someone who has reached the highest level of Judo he is very safe to stand up with. Push yourself, no matter the size advantage. Ask yourself if they were a blue or purple belt of equal size would you have tried a triangle? Pulled guard? Stayed on your feet? If the only time you are training wrestling or judo is against someone of equal or lesser skill you will getter better against people your skill level but you won’t learn as much. Hope that makes sense. Also before any assumptions are drawn I am only 5’7” 155 lbs, so I know what it’s like rolling against people much larger than myself. Usually they are several inches taller and 50+lbs heavier (my gym is mostly 6 foot 200 pound people). Just the other day I rolled against two guys who were 6’3 250lbs. One was a white belt and one was a black belt. I felt much safer with the black belt and I stood with both.
