    Wild...I separated in November, filed my BDD claim in June. I heard nothing from anyone about my claim other than the multiple calls I made to the VA and VERA. They all told me the same thing. "Your case is being reviewed and we will reach out if we need any more information." The same exact line given at least 10 times... You could tell that answer is on their script.. I just got notified today that a 3rd party company will contact me to "confirm" C&P appointments.. The audacity to make people wait 7+ months after they initially file, to only tell them they have to be here at this time and date and can only cancel once...I'm 2 months after my date of Separation and still no rating...It defeats the whole purpose of "Benefits Delivery AT Discharge"

    I guess I was very fortunate. I saw a vso mid October and got a call from QTC, VA subcontractors in about three weeks. They were very polite and worked with my schedule for two different exams. My two appointments were completed by December 7th. I was awarded 80% on December 22 by VA. I can't really complain or say anything bad about the process except for two things. One, they gave me zero for hearing loss when I have a hearing aid in my right ear. Secondly, the said no service connection for TBI when no one has asked nor examined me for a TBI. I guess the VSO will appeal it when we talk.

    Hey brother, I recently retired back in June and went through this process during my med board. I understand your frustration, but understand that what happened to you isn't the typical situation. I only say that because the VA is the best resource vets have when we get out and the horror stories outside of the norm do our juniors a disservice and sway them away from getting enrolled. I'm sorry this happened to you, but I recommend prefacing stories like this with a "this happened to me" or something of the sort.

    • @jeffmiller1129

      I’m definitely not trying to sway away from the VA. People who don’t apply for benefits only have themselves to blame. I’m just highlighting the blatantly obvious mistakes that were made, and their inability to correct them.

    People reading this, whatever you do, never use one of those unaccredited firms like VA Claims Insider or vet benefits. You have to pay a fee if you’re approved for a rating and quite a hefty one. Quite a few people succeed, but their practices are shady and some other similar institutions are being investigated. Yes, the VA is far from perfect and many employees with VBA and examiners are incompetent. That’s why you need a veteran’s service officer with Disabled American Veterans or the VFW. And yes, many of them aren’t competent as well.

  • @jondstewart
    @jondstewart 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I haven’t watched this video yet, but I do agree. The VA is a very rigged system. You have retired E7-E9 drawing 100% disability that never deployed to a war zone, in seemingly good health, and working GS-12 federal jobs and earning over $200,000 a year, yet war vets with serious mental issues lucky if they’re getting 70%. But my coworker is an exception to the rule. He’s 100% disabled, a retired E7 in the Army, and works as a wage grade cook like myself. He was airborne, jumped out of planes and helicopters, been in combat, and seen death. He told me he never used a veterans service officer, did everything on his own, was completely upfront and honest, and earned it. As for myself, I retired in 2011 and was 20% initially. Got up to 70% in 2016, 80% in 2021, and now 90%. It took a total knee replacement to get me to 90% and even when I have the second one done, it’ll still be 90%, per VA conversion chart.

    • @andresluna351
      @andresluna351 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a very narrow point of view. It is up to the individual to be able to translate their issues to the proper rating. I wasent deployed and had a low rating for 10 years and it wasent till a battle buddy I was visiting had to drive me to a er for a massive panic episode I was having and told me I need to go file for an increase. He knew me before service worked with me in service and saw what I had become, the military especially between 2003-2012 was a high intensity machine which stressed deployment readiness. I have not been the same since my service which I'm proud of but I went through a ocean full of shit due to piss poor leadership and management. Can't blame me because I finally reached out and got what I deserve. On the other hand I have my best friend since childhood who was 11b and 3 deployments with tbi and all kinds of issues who has refused to seek help because his parents coddle him and he lives with them for free. I've been telling him for 10 years to get rated for his injuries and it wasent till earlier this year when his mom passed that he realized he needed to get his own stream of income coming in for his service related injuries. Everyone has their story and their is entirely too much money being pocketed by politicians and true enemies for me to try and belittle another veteran who at least had the balls to sign the dotted line cause at the end of the day when you join U have no idea what hell you face yet you join knowing that U have no control ever anything. Merry Christmas 1%'s

    Hi Jeff, WOW what a great video. I really appreciate you honest and truthful story about filling your disability claim with the VA. I am 1000% totally in agreement with you about the 100 BILLION dollars Biden want to GIVE Israel and Ukraine, He wants to GIVE FREE money to people from another country half way across the world, when that money should go to Americans that were born here, worked and paid taxes here and especially who served our country like you have done, firts. And only after every veteran is fully taken care of and then and only then if there is any money left over, give it to other countries. I am a 74 year old Vietnam veteran, I served 18 months in Vietnam in 1969, and I have never filed a claim with the VA, or for that matter, I have never ever been to the VA hospital. So, I nee to get off my but and get a claim filed with the VA. I did file an "INTENT TO FILE" form last August. But I have no medical records or diagnoses. You mentioned you filed a a Congressional, what is that and how do you do that? Please help... Thanks for your service!

    @Jeff, I take it your still waiting ? For you and others out there. BBD was created with the intent of getting retired folks their VA compensation right at AD retirement pay date or close too it, normally not always the case due to each individuals case/circumstance. Also not all military installations are set up and/or operate equally. What is suppose to happen is this: 90-180 days out you attend ACAP/TAP. You learn how to file a claim and even register for an ebenefits account (which I think sucks). Separate from clearing the installation , the transition rep (retirement guru) provides separate events/documentation that needs to be completed prior to even receiving installation clearing papers, one of them being you visiting a VA Admin rep where you go over your medical issues (you physically ink this one as it's your intent to file claim). This person uploads this information and sends to the VA base examiner (thus coordinates for your exam(s)) and gets back too you for verification and/or stamp of approval. 60 days out all medical exams should be completed, this gives the VA medical rep/examiner handling your medical claim at the base/installation sufficient time to complete his medical write up piece (i.e. your medical claim). When he/she is done it gets electronically submitted to VA (therefore this would have prevented you from having your hands on it thus preventing any mishandling). Now back to the inked paper mentioned earlier, the VA examiner views your electronic military records searching for stuff that is depicted on that form you completed, should you find a injury that you forgot to mention you must quickly notify these same folks but its not the end of the world. Many of these examiners find more things anyways and place into a claim automatically for you, the lazy ones dont. Again more than likely your base was not set up picture perfect like this, the very reason you outsourced your claim in the first place. For you other listeners out there: Do your transition piece even farther out (I did 24 months out so I wouldnt rush things due to time constraints, I even purposely held onto leave burning it here and there taking care of transition pieces and maxed out terminal leave and permissive TDY doing the same. I even used these very same dates even up until last day of terminal leave building more medical evidence. Also should my claim outcome not go as planned or expected I had ammunition for supplemental claim(s) which I did do and it paid off. Side note: I continued to use my on base PCM until retirement. The benefit of base PCM at this stage of game still becomes part of STR (A key). @ Jeff again, I agree the VA sucks and needs major improvements. I didnt experience much change since first ETS except for the BBD and electronic bits and pieces. You should go over all your transition pieces to include the installation/base SOP and dissect it. Look for something that can trigger a request for reconsideration, waiver......

      Based on my experience a lawyer will delay your claim! They get paid an average of 30% of your back pay. So it is in their financial benefit to string out your case as long as they can. Educate yourself and you can do it!

    • @dlawso23
      @dlawso23 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dsmith2858 how can a lawyer "delay" a claim? The Chicago Regional Office closed/dismissed my appeal without any explanation, causing a delay for my claim. You can file your claim yourself, but that doesn't mean that the VA will do right on their end. My experience with the VA is not the same as yours. The same applies to social security.

Spent some time in Okinawa, the Philippines, South Korea, etc. but most of my time was spent in Southern California. I did go to SERE School but I can't recall where is was held. Honorable Discharge. I'm not aware of any injuries or medical problems caused by / while in the military. There are a lot of veterans where I work now, many who have filed claims that have been validated and they are receiving disability payments. They keep telling that I need to file a claim, but when I ask them what for, they won't give me an answer. What am I missing here?

      File a claim for any service connected injuries, thats it or if you suffer from things depicted in PACT ACT

      You can file a claim and get a zero percent rating which means you are not injured, but will still receive some state benefits for having a rating.

      @@iBarber504 Thank you! But I'm clueless ... what is a C-File? All I know about is my DD214 & MSRB, but all that I have on hand is the DD-214 and a microfiche of ... something.

    I’m sorry sir. But I have some objection to some of the stuff that you are saying in this video. First, many veterans who have been in the military that long don’t really know what it’s like to be a civilian because of all the time they did in the service. I feel like many veterans who did that amount of time don’t truly know about these processes because the DOD teaches you about the DOD and not a separate government agency like the VA. Unfortunately for one reason or another you were not educated about the VA process before you got out and that’s is why you feel the way you do. You are not the first and you will not be the last. Respectfully

      @jeffmiller1129 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are saying I will not be the first to wait over a year for adjudication, and not the last, that is the problem in itself. Using your rationale you are saying that as long as any time frame is “explained” to the service member, then it is justifiable. There is a comment above from a person who waited over five years. Is that ok?

    • @MrFooliofocker

      @@jeffmiller1129 I was not trying to defend the VA at all for its inefficiencies. The point I was trying to convey was that it sounds from your video that you were not properly educated about the VA process when you got out. And that is completely understandable given you spent 20+ years in the Navy. The VA does not care if you are a retiring khaki, or a Seaman who got kicked out. We are all in line. The Navy and other branches don’t teach us enough about being a veteran because their main goal is retention and keeping people in. That’s not just the VA’s fault, it’s the DOD’s as well.

    I was on step three for ten months. Filed on Jan 17, 2023 and after two C&P exams they settled it on Nov 3, 2023 at 100% permanent and total. On Nov 9th VA deposited over 35,000 dollars in my bank account. Don't try to hurry them.

    I totally agree that the VA is truly a ANXIETY INDUCING EXPERIENCE. Sometimes you feel like a burden even though you’ve earned and sacrificed for all the treatments.

      Hi Jeff, I'm an old Navy guy who served in Desert Storm. I waited 30 years to file my first claim.The good news is that you won't miss any money waiting for your rating. You will get back pay from your intent to file date. The other good news is your claims will be considered presumptive as long as you file within one year of getting out. I have been dealing with the VA for two years, and I am at 90% waiting on HLR for other claims. I don't want to be a know it all. I have spent two years studying the VA system. Mostly by watching videos like Hill & Ponton, Combat Craig, and VA Insider Claim.The most important thing is to learn VA law 38 CFR and down load DBQ's off of va.gov for you disabilities.38 CFR will give you the rating % for your symptoms.The DBQ's will give you the questions the C&P examiner's will be asking you. When you go to your C&P exam they will ask you how you are doing when you first get there do not say good. They will write that down. Speak to the rated symptoms in the 38 CFR that applies to you. Whatever symptoms you speak of that is the rating you're going to get. For example, if you speak about night mares, you're going to get a 30% rating. With PTSD it's all about how it affects your work and social life. Sorry so long, I have a lot to tell you so you are successful with your claim and don't fall into the VA traps.I want to make it clear I mentioned "VA Insiders Claims". I used them for info only I did not sign up with them there fees are too high plus they are not VA accredited.Be careful who you sign up with to do your claims.Good luck!!

    A lot of people just talk or write some stuff on a board and then never take action. Either they don't truly intend to take the action or they don't know what action to take... how to go about it. We live in a very complicated world.
