    In the USA if something happens during a live sports event the play by play person will say "we're going to the network news desk for a special report ", and in the case of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake which happened just game 3 of the World Series was about to begin the American Broadcasting Company who was broadcasting the game was able to have a direct on air conversion between the announcers at the stadium and Peter Jennings at the ABC anchor desk in New York with Al Michaels and Tim McGarver giving commentary on what they could see from their vantage point

    For a movie over two hours long it sure had a sto0pid ending. However, I disagree with that, "you can't change the past" theory. The lady who says, "I'm in insurance" is the one who is there to save the world. Bruce Willis character couldn't do this because he's already there, as a child. He's just there to point out the real villain, the lady on the plane is there to stop him. I'm a trained professional.

    I think they did stop the plauge. The dr being on the plane indicates she's a future dr who was also sent back. If she was on the plane when the villian released it, she would not have survived to send Bruce back.

    After 2 full days saturation of news in all live channels, I remember switching to one of these nothingness channels, just to kind of relax and distract myself from the 911 broadcasting. I remember first switching to MTV, VH1, and others, and all of those just have a screen with this message redirecting viewers to their sister networks for 911 coverage, and those stations themselves simply stop transmitting it’s regular programming. 911 was a HUGE thing folks.

      In the USA MTV and vh1 just played music videos on a loop for about a week with a text crawl on the screen asking viewers to turn to CBS news in their local arena. But I have to give it to Nickelodeon associated with CBS, Disney Channel associated with ABC and the Cartoon Network associated with CNN for keeping children's programming on instead of switching to their respective news networks or suspending programming, the kids really didn't need to see that

    I remember seeing these like it was yesterday. I saw the second tower collapse from my 7th grade history class. It was on the third floor and saw the tower disappear. Police made everyone go straight home. My brother picked me up and we remember seeing no planes in the sky. Channels that stayed on the air had text that scrolled past and explained what happened.

    In my mind I will always see the ending as a success for finally catching who basically killed 5 billion people. However after some decades later of taking interest in the film. The real and final reason was to charge the Doctor with capital punishment of “OMNI” as in he committed the most heinous crime in history, but do truly justify these charges they needed every shred of evidence. Capturing him would indeed secure the ideal of redemption or surround him with no hope of mercy. With time travel they could easily provide a task and “insurance” scenario where he has one last chance to redeem himself and that’s to persuade his past self not to go down that road. Failure to do so will secure the fate of the Doctor into an advanced science form of capital punishment. I highly suggest watching this movie now and the future to project your interpretations of what happened and could’ve happened. I first watched this movie in 2006. The only reason I ever heard of because of friend at the time mentioned it and he was in fact going to school for psychology. The idea of the movie is just a inevitable loop maybe be subliminal as in for instance the movie Edge of Tomorrow where Tom Cruse’s character kept experiencing a loop, but started to recognize that subtle changes of actions changed the outcome. Bruce’s character was just a much wider extension of that idea in my opinion for his timeline loop was much wider, longer, meaning to process it could make one think to question their sanity. Bruce’s character instance was that he basically finally concluded an epic “battle” of eternal repetition. The woman on the plain “scientist”, said insurance. However her demeanor regardless of acting or not was captured as if she was in the field of, “death insurance”. Which means the doctor meant his maker and time to pay the piper. 5 billion lives on your hands is FUBAR of a crime not including the chaotic aftermath of despair he created. Which probably explains Bruce’s character probably seen crazier things in the aftermath then that ghetto theater/showroom where the psychologist was about to to be forced in a traumatizing situation if Thomas wasn’t there. The fact she couldn’t process the outcome if he didn’t kill those men is evident her character played the position of Order while Thomas was the symbol of Chais. Which explains their attraction for each other because they balance each other out. Not knowing their fate, they choose to seek balance. Then when she saw that in his young eyes. The “curse” was broken. Concluding that the Doctor will not get away with the Viral Holocaust he desired to commit to all of human civilization. Favorite quote from command conquer 95 game was said by Kane. “He who controls the past commands the future. He who controls the future conquers the past” No doubt in my that scientist meant she was in the field of “death insurance” and that doctor was gonna find out from a “scientist”

    The film is genius - something that I understand fully (as a hard determinist): There is, was and always will be only one line of causality which cannot be changed. If humans ever reach a point were they are able to send someone into the past to try and change things, they will learn that any impact the agent has on the causality was always a part of that causality - which actually lead to the outcome/course of events they wanted to change. If you could change even the slightest thing, it would almost immediately change *everything* that happened thereafter (butterfly effect), resulting in completely different people in different circumstances everywhere. Ultimately, the agent that was sent wouldn’t end up being sent back in time to make the change, resulting in a paradox that would likely unravel the fabric of the reality in which we live.

    I remember seeing La Jetée at a college party years and years ago. I was captivated by the story, and the storytelling method of still images was so very surreal. When 12 Monkeys came out years later, I was shocked to discover it was basically the same story, only told in a traditional format with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt LOL

  • @adammuncy8475
    @adammuncy8475 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The past can be altered, we can tell through the subsequent events of the film that it can. However, it is unpredictable. His friend from the future put two and two together and figured out who Cole was going after with the gun. You know it starts at the airport, so you can pull ticket receipts and maybe even video tapes, not to mention you can put someone in the security line to see who is taken aside for extra checks. That got passed ahead in time so that the lady can be on the same plane and extract as much knowledge from him as possible. She's relating to him by kind of dropping a nugget to appeal towards his apocalyptic views. Piece by piece, little by little the change is occurring. The mass murderer is a lab nerd who rarely got laid, I mean come on, it's obvious. That's why the person from the future on the plane is a woman, not a man. If you further alter the timeline back, you can insert someone into his life to make a positive change, or simply just end it if needed.

    Hey everyone, so since this video has somehow gained moderate popularity I have obviously noticed the broad range of comments from people extensively sharing their own thoughts on this film and what they believe it purveys. Moreover of course, there are people who are correct to fundamentally disagree with my points in this video and make their own corrections on what they pretty accurately believe this movie’s hidden meanings are. Out of all of these opinions that I’ve seen, I have in fact agreed with almost all of them, as I now realise my interpretation of this highly complex film isn’t entirely accurate. However, when I made this a couple of years ago, I did so knowing my perception of the film was probably incorrect anyway. I wanted to make this because I thought it was really cool how this movie is still open to such broad interpretation all these years later. (Even if that interpretation isn’t a right answer, but then again, this film in some ways makes the point that there are no right answers) I also make a point at the end of this video to say that too, making it very clear that I could easily be 100% wrong on how I view the film. (But it seems most of these people correcting me in the comments never made it to that part of the video…*sigh*). In other words, in making this video I gave myself permission to fail gloriously when attempting to analyse the film. Every time I walk into a room I’m immediately not the smartest person in there so for me to make a decision to tackle a film review of something as complex as 12 monkeys was probably extremely brazen. However, me knowing that I probably got things wrong is what made this more fun for me to make. I think a movie like this endures because it leaves the entire story open to interpretation, which is what makes it so enjoyable. As much as a lot of you in the comments would like to believe and claim that there is a right answer to what happens in this film (and granted, for a lot of it there actually is) nobody could still ever really 100% accurately analyse every aspect of this film. But yes, I fully realise I probably got a lot of things to do with this movie wrong. I can fully stand by the things I got wrong with this though as when it comes to the parts of my interpretation of this that i got wrong, I still believe them to be somewhat worthy opinions on what took place in the overall story and outcome of this transcending masterpiece of a film. This is because I believe an alternate perspective is worthy and welcomed. Not just from me but from anyone. Thank you all for sharing your extensive thoughts on this movie in long comments. Please, do not stop. You have given this video far more life than I could have ever imagined and your thoughts and opinions couldn’t be more highly valued by me. I never thought I’d ever make a video with a comments section as extensive and meaningful as this. Thanks again, - Sam :)

    @g.mitchell7110 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had a slightly different interpretation of the plot. The main point, that the Willis character can't change anything because it's already happened, that part I agree on. But I didn't read the story as implying that he caused the pandemic, rather that nothing he did made any difference, that the genetically engineered virus was created and released entirely independent of his actions and his attempt to stop it was part of a closed time loop doomed to fail. The ending, I think, has two possible interpretations. One is that the scientist lady is going to try to stop the release, in which case she will fail because of the above mentioned time loop causality. The other is that Willis succeeded at the cost of his own life in identifying the origin so that she will be able to get a sample of the original from which to make a vaccine. Also, the "you can't alter the past because it's already happened, but you can alter the future" doesn't really make sense. The current time is "the present" to anyone born into it, and the past is any time before that. Which is to say, past, present, and future are all relative. If you can't alter the past, then, logically, you also cannot alter the future because your future is the past for people living in that future. Every point in time is someone's present, someone else's past, someone else's future. Altering your future is altering the past of a future timeline. Either you can alter the timeline (as in Back to the Future) or you can't. This includes the future.

    The Great Chase was before The Amazing Race which started in 2001. I remember seeing a bit of The Great Chase on TV at the time. I think it was broadcast in Australia (and maybe New Zealand) and was a local creation not a copy or a spin-off from something else. When The Amazing Race appeared I thought to myself 'wow they copied that other show where they drove around in Holden Astras'. After that I never really thought about it until I saw a promo on a VHS tape in early 2024. I remember learning about it back in early 2018. I find it funny how they make lost media creepy. I got over that fear and just find lost media fun and interesting.

    I’ve just had a theory: If ANHV was taped in Melbourne, it’s likely via relay that the output came from GTV9 (the Melbourne station) & relayed to TCN9 (Sydney) & QTQ9 (Brisbane) on the east coast. When Mr. Packer called the switchboard to get the show pulled, it’s likely the Sydney station’s relay was used to air Cheers in Sydney & Brisbane, & thus in my opinion both only got to the 33 minute part, whereas news didn’t reach the Melbourne station until much later that Mr. Packer wanted it removed, so they aired more before eventually either switching to the Sydney feed, or airing their own copy of the same episode (IF it was the same one) in ANHV’s place. And thus Adelaide & Perth wouldn’t have gotten ANHV; only Cheers instead. Anyway; this is just a theory, as I was born in 1993, the year after it aired. But this would explain why Melbourne aired more than what Sydney (& most likely Brisbane) aired.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Mulligrubs was slightly before my time, but my big sister used to watch it. I remember Friday Night Games, though. The host was he voiceover from the Amart All Sports ads from the 2000’s.

    I love this video, very well made even if a bit too Australia-centric for my tastes. I never realized Australia made that many TV shows-- besides of course the huge international smash hit soap Neighbours-- I thought they mostly imported US and UK programming, but what do I know, I'm an American who has never traveled abroad (especially not to Australia). Speaking of your country's biggest TV export, Neighbours is not well known here in America. It was however test marketed in this country in the summer of 1991, twice-- in the Los Angeles area in June, and later in the New York City area in August. Both times the show was quickly canceled by the station that had aired it.
