We officially begin our road trip in southern patagonia. We started it by flying down to Punta Arenas before we headed to Puerto Natales to use as a base for exploring the Mylodon Caves and Torres del Paine.

Join me as I explore Santiago during my first couple of days in Chile. I share my initial impressions, give tips, and show you some places to see in Santiago.

I spent a month road tripping around Chile (with a week in Argentina), and in this video I talk about why I chose Chile, what I packed, the areas I went to, and how much I spent. This is just a general overview and I'll be going into more detail as I cover each leg and destination of the trip.

The final video of the 2023 chase series. We finally got our long-awaited New Mexico tornado...a skinny little rope. It was also big sister Kat's first tornado. And we had a pleasant last day of chasing before we wrapped up our trip with a drive up to Denver.

We had a fun New Mexico chase and even saw a couple of little funnels. But the real highlight of the chase wasn't until nighttime when we saw the most beautiful night supercell we've ever seen. Brilliant turquoise and purple flashes, CG lightning, anvil crawlers...we could not take our eyes off of it!

We chased in the Texas panhandle for a couple of days, and even though we didn't catch any tornados, we saw some beautiful cells, amazing lightning, mammatus clouds, and brilliant turquoise hues in the clouds. Still a fun chase!

Big sister Kat joins us for her first chase ever!! She got the full experience, truck stop coffee, pak a sak iced teas, small midwest towns, mesocyclones, lightning, chasers, abandoned places...she had a great first chase and it was just the beginning.

We stumbled across the Lincoln Developmental Center, which used to be for "feeble minded children" in the late 1800s. Although a number of residents were just poor or unwanted by their parents. Conditions were not good and the institution closed down in 2002.

We had some days off of the weather, so we went out exploring. Our first abandoned place to visit was the Jacksonville Developmental Center in Jacksonville, IL. This was Illinois's first insane asylum. You'll learn about the history of the place and a very important woman, Elizabeth Packard, who helped reform the laws around the treatment of insane patients.

My first ever lowrider show! And the first ever Impala Tours show in Reno. It was even better than I expected and getting to ride in one afterward was the cherry on top.

We finally got our first tornado of the trip! A whispy little guy but still a great chase day. We had great structure all day and were very pleased with our strategizing.

This was a typical chase day. Hours of driving, lots of promising setups, navigation issues, avoiding hail...all without seeing anything significant to speak of. Very typical.

This was day 3 of our 2023 chasecation, but before we got into chase mode, we came across one small dying town after another. There's usually a very interesting history behind these towns and it's sad to see them decaying.

Here's a brief overview of our 11th annual storm chasing trip, plus the first couple of days chasing. We were already getting severe weather the day we landed, and we jumped right into our chasecastion. We were already finding fun abandoned places on day 1, and there are a lot more exciting chase days and abandoned places to come in this series.
