November 11, 2021. Sustained winds of 25kts for 8 hours blowing from the east generated a wave event along the Minnesota north shore of Lake Superior. Waves modeled by NOAA to be in 10-13’ range for significant height. Measured as a Light Breeze on the Beaufort Scale. The SS Benjamin Noble was lost in April of 1914 during an early year gale. All hands were lost. It was considered a “ghost ship” until its remains were found in 2004. I accompanied the trip as a photographer in September of 2029. Marquette and the U.P. up to Grand Marias gets pounded more often than the North Shore. I’ve seen some videos of waves there that pass 25’. Though I would love to get to that area, it takes me 6 hours to make it. With enough planning and a better camera stabilizer the shots would be worth it!
