Yes it is. I dropped them immediately after that. Even though what I use now is end-to-end encrypted, I still use encrypted containers for extra piece of mind.

I could not find any info on HIPAA and Cryptomator. That said their encryption is excellent, the code is open source so anyone can verify what they are doing. I would be hard pressed to find the likes of Meditech and Epic using better encryption. Because of how important it is to safeguard medical records I would personally verify from someone (attorney, IT person, etc) that you would be ok to do so. If something goes wrong and you don't have that HIPAA label, it could cause you grief. I would imagine that is why most medical offices are moving to Cerner, Epic etc., so they can be protected while still allowing patients to access docs (of course there are other benefits of a full MR suite).

Nope, when I moved some of my playlists to Apple Music, my account was in the free tier. Last time I tried it was about 8 months ago and it still worked for me.

I don't have experience with the Android app, but could zipping up the folder first and uploading as a single file, and then unzipping from the Android app work? Might be a half decent workaround if it works, until a better solution is found.

That is an issue with anything you share with another person. Unless you have the option to exclusively checkout something where someone cannot make edits until you check it in, this will always occur. You could be working on a Word doc at the same time as someone else, and when you both save, one version clobbers the other. I'm not sure if something like the business version of dropbox has that kind of feature.

Both side have to use Cryptomator to see/copy/sync etc.

Sure that would work fine. Cryptomator is free BTW. The issue is the convenience factor. You use the tool that makes sense. I love 7-zip and use it all the time. It's hard to use a zip file on a mobile device though, and cryptomator makes it easy. Plus working with files (adding, modifying, etc) is easier with cryptomator since you just use it as a normal folder, and once you close the session it auto encrypts again. Slightly more friction with archives; not much but still there. Password protecting a zip file is a totally viable solution and I use that as well. That's a great tip and thanks for bringing it up to everyone.

I would create an encrypted folder in Dropbox and put those files there. They would then be encrypted and hidden from anyone with access to your Dropbox. When you decrypt a cryptomator encrypted folder, the files are decrypted locally so nobody but you would be able to see them. Just make sure you remove the files you currently have in Dropbox once you move them to the new encrypted folder. Since Dropbox may have some kind of recycling bin, if you need to ensure that nobody can see those, make sure to remove any history. I don't know about Dropbox, but some have a sort of version control to be able to get to older versions. So you would need to find and remove those as well.

Their docs said it should work, but to be sure I tried it myself and it worked fine without MacFuse. I think you should be ok.

I use Veracrypt for long term storage since it works better for my workflow, plus I've been using it before I even knew of Cryptomator. But now I have a Cryptomator folder synced to an online folder, and it has been very useful to have encrypted docs on my phone when I need them on the go. The problem with Veracrypt is that you really need a computer to access your files - there are some ways to get access from a phone, but I don't trust them - and Cryptomator solves that beautifully.

I'm still loving it. I've been using it religiously since I got it. I find that it does a good job with the sleep analysis, and, at least for me, when that sleep score is down and the hrv is getting high, it is a good predictor that I'm probably getting sick. I haven't heard of Apple coming out with a ring, and if they do, that would be a long time away. A ring for Apple would probably eat into their watch sales, so I can't see a business value for them. I could be wrong. Oh, and as a company Oura is great. My ring battery life was getting bad about 2 months ago (almost 2 years of use) where it wouldn't hold a charge for a full day. I contacted them asking if there is something I could do like maybe get a discount for a new one as an existing customer, and no questions asked sent me a replacement for free, which was unexpected. I have no relationship with them btw. I doubt they even know this video exists lol.

If you mean the encrypted folder then no it shouldn't be an issue. The contents are decrypted locally with the password you created. Without your password they will not be able to view the contents. Just make sure the password is fairly complex. Everything works like this. Your browser works the same way when you are browsing https sites. The contents get encrypted locally, transmitted to the destination, and decrypted on the server with the private key.

Believe me I'm happy they did, finally. They could have technically waited 2 more years according to the EU law. Apple is stubborn on things we want because they think they "know better". Very annoying. They make a ton of money off of MFi lightning cables, so I'm curious what they are going to gouge consumers on to make up for it.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the only way would be to create an encrypted folder that is stored in dropbox. What you would need to do to access the data would be to decrypt, add any new data and then encrypt the folder. That encrypted folder would be in dropbox so you could access it from anywhere. There's no real way to automatically have dropbox do that if that is what you are asking.

@@ledique6945 Yeah, if you don't want your files in the open, you need to encrypt them before they go to google drive. I use Sync which is end-to-end encrypted, and I still encrypt what I feel is sensitive before uploading to them.

I tried to recreate your issue, and I couldn't. Not sure why it would ask for iCloud. You are just connecting to Apple Music. I have to say they updated the UI, and it looks a bit confusing.

Yes it will. All the info is stored in the vault so you can open it from any device. So you can copy the vault to a USB key, go to someone else's computer, and can open it if there is a doc you need to access. That's the first thing I tested.

The way Cryptomator works is that it encrypts a folder of your choosing. So, for example, if you have a folder in your pCloud called “MyFolder” and select that one as your vault, everything in there will be encrypted. That folder will not get moved from that location. All the files remain in the folder you chose to make your vault. The only thing that will be done is to scramble the contents until you decrypt it using the app. That ‘d’ folder and files you see is the result of the encryption. If you mess with those, you may be unable to recover the files. Removing a vault from Cryptomator will not delete the folder. All it is doing is removing it from the UI. Imagine you have 50 encrypted folders as vaults, but only want to see 5 in the app. Think of the vault list as a list of favorites. If you don’t want that vault or the contents of that folder anymore, you must delete the folder manually. I hope I clarified it for you.

One doubt ….if somebody get access to that d folder and say for example they delete those encrypted random files…will I not be able to recover my files from my vault?

Ugh, unfortunately Marisa they only do the online help contact, and that is a bit frustrating. Online chat hours would have been nice at a minimum. In the early days of using it with an iPhone I had a few issues connecting the ring with the phone (it would randomly stop connecting to the app similar to your issue), and the way I got around it was to completely delete the app from my phone and download again from the App Store and that got it working again. I found some troubleshooting steps with a way to reset the ring and clear the phone that might help you here: support.ouraring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025592013-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues Try that and if that doesn't work do contact them. At least when I contacted them they did respond quickly, but of course something that could have been solved with a quick phone call can take days of back and forth, sigh. No, you don't have to. Without the membership, you can still view your scores, but that is about it.. The membership provides extra analytics for those wanting to dive deeper into the data.

Yes that is probably why. As far as I know there is no free plan offered by Apple Music. They do have a 3 month trial if you want to try it out. Sometimes they have deals such as when buying AirPods. I can't recall where I saw it but they had a 6 month deal somewhere.

Just bluetooth in order for the ring data to sync up with the app. The ring has enough memory to store about 7 days worth of data. Network connection is needed if you want to sync up the data to view on the web portal, firmware updates, etc. Otherwise internet is not required (only exception might be initial setup)

Yes you can. As long as you have access to cryptomator to decrypt you can move that folder anywhere you want. I have created an encrypted folder (vault) and moved it to iCloud later, and could open with cyptomator without issue.

Then if you open dropbox from a different laptop, the veracrypt vault will be available also there? (of course you will need Veracrypt on that 2nd laptop to decrypt the ault). Absolutely. That is precisely the way I use it. I have my Veracrypt container on an online drive (any online drive) and have the portable windows version on the online drive as well. So no matter where I am, I can use the web portal to download the container and use the portable version to decrypt it. Works great. Unfortunately no portable mac version, so you would have to install Veracrypt, but it works just as well.

It irritates me to no end when companies do that. I stopped using Dropbox years ago since I wasn't thrilled with their policies. I use this one (and Veracrypt) because they are open-source. If they sell out I can always fork it and keep using it, or someone else will maintain it, which is what happened when Truecrypt died.

Yeah I haven't heard of any issue with it. I've used it without hesitation. It's been on the Apple App Store for way over a year now with a ton of people using it with no issues (scanning the reviews I only see some people having glitches but nothing from a security standpoint). Oh it was also featured in an article in Wired magazine (www.wired.com/story/apple-music-spotify-playlists/). In the end my point is if something nefarious was going on with this app, with so many people using it and the publicity it got, someone would have mentioned something by now, and more than likely removed from the App Store.

I tried to reproduce your issue, but I couldn't. I even took an old 6s that I have and removed Apple Music before downloading Songshift and I can see Apple Music listed. When you first launch the app all the services that Songshift supports should be listed. It shouldn't have anything to do with what you have. For example LastFM is listed for me in Songshift but I don't have the app or an account with them. The only thing that comes to mind is that something is blocked in settings. If you mean Apple Pay then no. All you need is to have an Apple Music account. I recently used Songshift to move another playlist from Spotify, and I don't pay for Spotify anymore and it still worked fine.

@@SamMakris Thanks Sam. The other product I use is Zerotier which provide network as a service type functionality. However its not reliable when using mobile internet. I am might setup a WireGuard server in a cheap VPS, so I can get reliable connections when travelling. I have just started using OpenMediaVault on a few PI servers and using Syncthing to provide real-time resilience.

@@wayne6220 That is funny. I bought the Zerotier router when they first sold it on Indiegogo but then had to return all the funds because they couldn't develop it. I never had the need to roll my own, at least not yet, but still kept them in the back of my mind.

Hey bowieknife, cryptomator basically just encrypts the contents of a folder and pretty much scrambles them; so even looking in the folder you have no idea what the contents are. It does do a great job of encrypting everything and it has a mobile app that allows you to view the files on the go. I've used it several times to take documents with me and it works great. If you didn't see it I recently did a video on cryptomator th-cam.com/video/PhpSe_dHfEU/w-d-xo.html Veracrypt has way more features and if it had a mobile app it would be hands down the best choice (there are third party ones but I wouldn't trust them). It has more encryption choices, so you can encrypt with multiple algorithms if you want, plus the plausible deniability option by hiding a container within a container and just showing up as a single drive. It is basically encryption for the paranoid.

@@bowieknife It is very safe, and I use it without hesitation. Their codebase is open source, so it is constantly vetted for issues. Plus having the mobile app has been extremely convenient.

I really appreciate the kind words. I knew there would be people that disagreed with me and would say I didn't know what I was talking about, and a few weeks after I posted, Google came out, and they said that RCS is not ready for prime time yet, oops. So funny enough, I just bought a Pixel 7, and I am planning on doing a video using that for a month instead of my iPhone. I will switch back to my iPhone after 30 days since I'm invested in the Apple ecosystem, but I will give it a fair shot. To get to your question, it seems like the messaging app does have voice/video calls. TMobile is being a pain, and I have to go to a physical store to get service for it, so I haven't been able to try it yet.

Veracrypt. It offers more flexibility. But it's USP is not really providing encryption to day 2 day cloud provisioning services. Cryptomator and Veracrypt are different fundamentally but you can upload to any drive storage with heavy encryption, using a veracrypt container.

Yup totally agree on Veracrypt. I mentioned it in the video, and that is the way I use it, by encrypting a container and storing it on the cloud. If you are paranoid about security it is great, but not as convenient as Cryptomator. I use both depending on the situation.

Vera crypt and cryptomator doesn't allow you to share the encrypted file without sharing your password. I use Axcrypt sure the best software for all encryption sharing and lot more security features. It allows me to encrypt both local and cloud files allows to share without sharing my password to just one specific person that i want with password management and lot more What do you think about it Sam Makris

@@rittikkhilani5514 Axcrypt is a nice alternative, but you have to pay to use and I'm not sure what happens if the company is sold or goes out of business. Cryptomator is open source, so it is vetted plus you will always have access to the app. Similar to what happened with Truecrypt. If you do a ton of sharing I can see the benefit of using Axcrypt.

Hi, I was using it exclusively for 3 months until I got my Mac Studio, and it works as advertised; I do get annoyed with the port position. I need to leave cables dangling if I want to connect anything otherwise you can't see the port unless you move the laptop/dock. I was also frustrated that I had to manually adjust the monitor refresh on my Macbook because the dock would not id as a 60hz display and the monitor would stay black until I changed it. If I was buying a dock today, though, I would be getting one from OWC - one example is eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TB4DOCK/#specs I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but they are well known for Mac accessories, plus they have much better specs than the hyper one. For the same money you get Thunderbolt 4 plus a faster SD slot; basically it seems better specs all around.

I am also back and forth with the 16" Macbook M1 Max and the Mac Studio, same specs 64GB 1TB SSD and 32GPU. Hope you did not get a noisy one :) fans and coil issues. So the best option to connect to a 16 inches M1 Max more than 1 screen direct would work? I also have a small hub by Belkin that I use for my 13 inches M1 2020 7 in 1, only for the ethernet cable, it does have a HDMI connection as well. Thanks!

With the OWC dock I mentioned, their specs say you can connect two monitors at 4k 60. If the Hyper one works, no doubt this one will. But if you already have a dock it doesn't hurt to try it first. If your Belkin works with the M1 and has an additional HDMI port it should be able to power the monitors. And if I understood your question correctly, yes you should be able to directly connect the MacBook to a monitor without issues. You could actually plug two monitors directly and they would work fine. Only reason for the dock is for convenience and to add more ports. As for the Macs, I have both and had no issues; they have been whisper quiet. Personally if I could only get one of the two options it would be the laptop. When I had my MacBook docked it was screaming fast. I had zero issues with any application. The studio for me is for video editing and for running several windows virtual machines. The same workflow on the MacBook was pushing it a bit too much, so I have zero regrets getting the Studio Ultra. Hope this helps.
