"Nana Ranger Din Guli"
This particular film is part of a process of a Film-making workshop.
It is a Bengali adaptation of the One Act Play “The Swan Song”
This One Act Play by Anton Chekov was translated from Russian into English by Marian Fell.
This popular one act play was adapted by Ajitesh Bondhopadhay, a well known theatre and film actor and one of the founder members of “Nandikar” theatre group of West Bengal.
The film opens with Rojoni babu, the central character, shown sprawled in a chair. He is suffering from a mild bout of hangover. He mulls and muses about his years as an actor for over forty years. He has climbed many peaks of success and achievements during his long and illustrious career as an actor only to realize to his utter dismay that he was merely been an object of entertainment all these years. No one really cared about him nor the lofty nobility of this craft of acting. At present his condition is deplorable. He is old, unmarried, neglected and lonely. Nonetheless he draws consolation from the universal strength and death-defying power of art. This play is a character study of a stage actor. It also studies the human vanities and weaknesses. This one-act play is apparently a swan-song for the central character. I however, humbly, beg to differ.

Thank you sir for a very honest review. I was barely 17 years old when my uncle had presented me with a cassette with the recording of Ajitesh babu's recording and I was completely spellbound by his very expressive voice and narration. I can very well understand your position. We are amateurs living far away from Bengal, in a place called Pondicherry. It was a challenge because it was a first for us in every field imaginable and above all to attempt to do almost the impossible. Thank you sir.
There is one important detail that for some reason I had completely overlooked. I had done much of the corrections and ameliorations of the dubbings in Tapan's music-room (studio) . A special thanks to him for that .
Very Nice story, The story speaks more than just the last swan sung of an Actor. Superb Acting and Hatzz up to the maker of this short movie (y).
Your appreciation is very welcome. Thank you sir.
I offer my sincere effort in making this film to The Mother. Jayanti-appa has provided us with that beautiful last message of the Mother. Canon 70D with 18-135mm lens is used to shoot this Film with proper stage light. Hope all will appreciate our collective effort. There is subtitles so if you want please press the CC buton near the Settings button. Thanks Sushil
'This film is the result of a very genuine urge of a bunch of friends to do creative work with the means of absolutely basic equipments and non professional actors. For me however, as a stage actor, it was the curiosity and challenge to blend the stage acting craft with that of performing in front of a camera. It was also to encourage and inspire all the aspiring film-makers of the Ashram to take the plunge. I and my friends would appreciate constructive feed-backs so that we can improve. Thank you Gautam
