Woodworking Router Tips and Model by Gary Striegler - Master Trim Carpenter
I have used WoodPrix plans and I think they are really good. I have already made a lot of things out of wood thanks to them.
This is awesome! So excited to continue with parts 3 and 4 in this series!! Great techniques, tips, and tricks, Gary!
Oh I am a sub contractor what we call a C-6 Millworks Contractor.
I am 66 brother! Saturday morning just finish a bunch of custom moldings, and floating 2” oak shelves. Now I hv to get a wine cabinet together today so as to install all of this before an 80” Credenza and lowers extension . I feel pretty good and the doctor stated it’s important to stay busy and work ! Don’t quit !
Awesome tips and techniques Gary! Thank you!!!
This is AWESOME Gary!! Great information in another great video! Looking forward to the coming parts!
Corey thank you. This is material I have been wanting to share for a long time. Gary
@garystreigler3495 I'm a so thankful that you're willing to share it with us!
Many thanks for sharing your expertise with us!!
happy it is helpful, I really enjoy making curved trim and I am using some of these methods on furniture projects in my Semi retirement(still working at least 30 hours a week) Gary
so i made it too :D just by using WoodPrix plans :)
@garystreigler3495 thanks for the lesson
Nice job!
thank you. It is a great detail with so many options if you use different moldings
Thanks for sharing Gary. Can you give us some insight on how you would construct a raised panel head jamb for an arched opening?
I have done both raised panels and also panels made with curved panel molding. we will share a video on those after all the video's on the basics of curved trim. It will be several months. If you have a project you need to work on before then send me an email and i will try to share with you what you need to know. Garystriegler@gmail.com Gary
@@garystreigler3495 Thanks Gary, I'm looking forward to those videos.
Love your videos Gary
Thank you. We are working on a lot more to share! Please share my channel with others. Gary
Love it, learned so much. My wish would be for Brent Hull, Hull Historical, and Gary to do Joint videos showing how to make historically accurate details to elevate and punctuate openings.
I am humbled to be mentioned in the same comment as Brent Hull. I have meet him a couple of times and work with the molding product lines he designed for Windsor One and I think he also worked with the Kuiken Brothers. I tend to try to copy what I see in books on historic homes Brent has So much historical knowledge and experience. Hope You continue to enjoy and share my channel. Gary
Genius, so much fun to watch. Look forward to learning from this master.
Thank you. I am thankful for the platform to share what I have learned. Thankful for my friend Mike who is making it happen!
Can you show the steps and the final results? Also, I am doing 3/4" thick TG pine boards on both sides of a 2x4 wall. The problem is the prehung door jambs are only 4 5/8" wide but the wall with the pine boards is 5" wide. What do you recommend I do with the 3/8" gap?
If you need to add a uniform 3/8 the simple answer is just pick the least viable side and add a 3/8 ripping with a 1/4 step back to that side. don't try to make a flush joint. A better look that is also more work involves taking the jamb apart and spitting it on a table saw behind the stop. Then add a 1/2 filler because you lost the saw blade to a edge behind the stop. another more expensive option is to use a wider ripping to replace the part of the jamb you removed and pocket screw it to the part of the jamb that still has the stop attached(you can also remove the stop before you rip jamb parts and add it back at the end. if you email me a good phone number and time to call I can try to explain better over the phone. garystriegler@gmail.com
Nice job! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you I always appreciate the encouragement. we are starting a series on making curved trim. hope that is interesting also. Gary
My goal is always to share lots of options for woodworkers with different skill levels and tools available. Personally I usually put Hoffman keys in the back of my doors to make mitered doors but that takes an expensive tool. The new Mortise mate jig by Kreg or a Domino are both good options depending on your budget and the number of door to build
Hiding the pocket hole plugs would easy if the plan is to paint the door, but will be more visible if your keeping a natural wood finish. Do you normally follow this joinery method when painting the cabinet door and use a domino / hidden fastener when keeping a natural wood finish?

Awesome video Gary. Keep em comin. I gotta send you some pictures of my latest build
Thanks Colin
Cauls on both ends; even if you are running this through a planer , use cauls.
Thank you for the comment. I almost never glue up anything that will not go through a planner. Because I make sure the edges of my boards are clean and square plus I use clamps on top and bottom I have never needed to use cauls. How do you keep the cauls from sticking to the glue up? Wax?
@@garystreigler3495 I wrap the 2x4 cauls with packing tape. Using cauls takes care of those disobedient pieces of wood.

I enjoy watching your videos! Wish I had your shop! Don
I am so thankful for my shop. thanks for the encouragement. I hope you and your family are well.
Thank you Gary. Great tips!!!
Great, thank you.
Absolutely gorgeous, just like all your work, Gary! Well done!!
Love watching Gary work. He is a true craftsman. I especially like his workshop - practical and ideal to work in. Hate those cleaner-than-clean workshops. Love that plywood off cut attached to top with pins to cut the acute angle, very smart.
Mr Gary ! ( I always ran for cover if my Mom stated Mister at the front) ! I was looking around your shop and I was wondering if your saving that saw dust and off cuts to sell on line ? Kidding ! My shop is worse ! HEY MERRY CHRISTMAS & GOD BLESS , TO U AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! Thank you for the teaching videos ! Keep going !
Fantastic job Gary!!!! Wow!
Fantastic project!!!! Great job Gary!!!
One of my favorite projects!

Outstanding tutorial. Thank you. Look forward to Part 2.
Thank you for watching. It should be out next week.
Interesting product. However, after a few times bending down to turn on the extractor, I'd switch out the cordless drill for a corded version to take advantage of the extractor's auto start.
Thanks for that but I am not sure I have any corded drills any more that are not large Hammer drills. Maybe some sort of remote switch?
Some years back, Rob Cosman put out a video on taking a pass or two with a hand plane to prepare the edge of your sheet goods before glueing on solid wood edge banding. Been doing that since then. I guess no matter how you do it, jointing the mating surfaces before glue up is well worth the effort.
It seems that the inner core of the plywood I use (tiger ply) wants to fuzz a little unless I use this bit. You must be a lotter better than me with hand tools.
it's amazing how many channels there are like this, the Carpenter Bob with 1 or 2K subscribers and all their workshops look the same and don't forget the very critical piece of advice they have to offer on how to glue two pieces of wood together...
I am convinced there are several ways to approach every part of woodworking. It depends on your past experience, what tools you have and how fast the job needs to get done. Hopefully all of us are sharing solid methods that work from a desire to help others.
Looks super cool, now buy a Dowelmax
I started my carpentry career using a General doweling jig. I still have it. Dowels make a strong joint but unless I am missing something there is no adjustment built into the joint. I guess I am just not that precise of a woodworker.
@ yeah true it is nice to have a little wiggle room
Great tool for my Christmas Gift!!!! Thank you Gary!
nothing says I love you like tools for Christmas
WoodPrix woodworking plans are nice for that.
Never watch a video that has that stupid subscribe bell. Now on to thumbs down and don't recommend channel.
I think that's a great idea. Especially useful for longer runs. Say doing a full shelving unit. For single pieces would a convex blade in a plane do it.
I am not much of a hand tool guy but if you are i am sure you could make it work. The bit is around 40$. I made the router table out of scrap and used a older router I had so I don't have much invested
My dad, he gave me the same advice word by word. But he added “even if is a bad thing”
amazing how wise our fathers have turned out to be. That puts a lot of pressure on me to finish well and be a wise father by God's grace.
Once again a great tip. I’ll be using this in the future. Please keep sharing
Thank You. I am so thankful to my friend Mike who is working so hard to help me with this. We have a lot more coming.
Excellent work
Thank you!
You should check out a machine called wood master. They make great wood working machines. They got some older videos with a guy talking about some of the features. Thanks for the the video Gary
Collins really has a lot of useful stuff for finish carpentry. I really like the Collins Coping Foot for cutting scribes and, of course, cope cuts.
Yes, have you ever seen his bunny planes? Very small planes I used to blend joints in handrails and curved work.
@garystreigler3495 No, I haven't seen those. I'd like to see one in use.
It is a great bit I hv one and should use it more on my floating shelves? Sometimes I also cut a 3-5 degree slant so the nosing makes seamless contact however, only if the bottom is not seen! Thk u for the video !
That is a good Idea also. Thank You
In my world, those are perfect!
Thank you. It is wise to know when to stop chasing perfection and be proud of very good.
