The JellyBean Drama was NEVER about JellyBean
except for summoning salt
Dude, maybe it's JUST the anime? Like, I don't read the manga, but I feel like season 7 had elements of a good arc, but for some reason that I can't put my finger on... it didn't rally intrigue me past a couple of moments. I think the anime just lost it's sauce atp.
I think video essays are always gonna be mixed. I think bad video Essays feel like someone saying "you need ME to explain how good this thing is" and a good video Essays is more like "look at this cool thing i found" sadly theres way too much of the former.
real shit. I feel like my video goes too far in the "style" department and too little in the actual cool department. I should have read this message before making the video lmao
I Honestly Feel Bad For JellyBean
I mean it is a school setting, of course its gonna have a gazillion characters
I fell off but I was able to get interested enough to be disappointed by the end of season 7. BTW 11:50 that is no how you say epitome.
You have some points, but in my opinion you're putting emphasis on the wrong things a lot of the time. For example, the flashbacks. Compared to other shonen anime, MHA has was less of this than others. Look at One Piece for example, which is almost exclusively flashback. That one also has a way bigger problem with drowning out its main cast with an ocean of side characters no one cares about. You make an excellent point about fighting in a void, and you also mention the far bigger issue of the fights being far too boring for this being a show of endless power combos. Look at Naruto fights for an example on how to do this right. It's a bit old, but it holds up because they're actually fighting and using strategy, throwing hands and using the environment and using the diverse powers to full use, ignoring the annoying flashbacks. Meanwhile MHA is all about that one punch. MHA went to the power beam school of fighting, only using fists instead of beams. With so many of the villains essentially having one touch kill powers, while the protagonists majority of powers just being "hit harder", it's kind of inevitable. Deku can't ever take a hit from Shigaraki, because then it's KO. Instead, his injuries just come from himself, and basically don't matter. Heck, the two of them don't fight even once until season 6, and even then it was directed really poorly. I also think you're mistaken about thinking that a nice guy can't be an interesting character, just because Deku specifically isn't. The dickish bad boy character is done to death and boring. I for one really dislike Bakugo's character, though I know he's popular for some reason. But you can have a lot of character flaws without them being being an a-hole. Look at Luz from the Owl House. No spoilers, but she's a people pleaser who constantly blames herself for things out of her control and needs to learn self acceptance. I use her as an example because her character arc or close to it could have been perfect for Deku and fit his self sacrificing self destructive tendencies. You are right about his character never growing though. But limiting character arcs to be about going from bad to good in some way is kind of a limited idea. I also think that MHA brings up a lot of interesting social questions and dynamics, but then executes them so badly or so shallow. Just feels like lost potential. Why did Stain's ideals become so popular? I get it eventually as the seasons went on, but it was handled and explained badly there in season 2. And don't get me started on how terrible the Hetromorph tensions were handled. And look at Toga's whole arc. Not once is it even implied that drinking blood isn't the issue there, but the harm and lack of consent is the problem. She compares drinking blood to how normal people show affection with a kiss, but then it's never brought up that forcing yourself onto someone with kisses is also still assault. Or the, Oh no, why would they kill Twice who was just trying to cause mass murder? Why would heroes do such a thing. Oh poor me. There was an interesting dynamic in there, but it was handled so badly. All this said, MHA also has a ton of redeeming qualities and is still far better than many other shonen anime, like One Piece for example. So I don't get why you're saying people hate this show, or call it overrated, when it's better than many of its peers on many aspects. I understand the frustration of the obvious lost potential is has, but calling it bad is exaggerating its issues, I think.
I agree with a lot of what ur saying here! If i was comparing this show to other shonen anime more I would have probably made many of these points. I honestly just hate anime flashbacks in general, and just because other shows are worse doesn't mean I hate it any less here. I think MHA has sooome interesting fights with cool powers like the stain fight and especially in season 6, but yea shigaraki vs deku is so lame because both of them can end the fight instantly with how busted they both are. also 100% oh my god there are so many cool social dynamics that MHA just executes so poorly. I should have talked about that more. I was coming at this video from less of a shonen anime perspective, and more of a normie perspective because that's where most of the hate comes from, at least from what I've seen. But yea great points I loved reading allat.
@@kamermoon5691 Fair enough. True, true. Also, I really liked your point about Plus Ultra being a fundamental weakness in the writing. I'd felt the same thing, but never really put my finger on it until you pointed it out.
I feel like my hero fell off because I stopped being relatable.
There's something that bothers me a lot about Deku. The start of the story is how Deku, a quirkless kid can't be a hero because he has no powers, that's kind of the setup...but then he immediately goes and gets a quirk. He just gets a quirk because he found his idol who happened to get impressed by him trying to save Bakugo, which is fine, he did something kinda heroic, extremely reckless and dangerous, but heroic nonetheless. All Might being impressed doesn't bother me. But he never even tried before. He never did any physical training, never tried to build muscle, work out, nothing. Until All Might shows up and agrees to give him a power, Deku never did anything to become a hero. Hes portrayed as a sort of brainiac that studies the quirks of heroes, but that doesn't go anywhere other than "he can sometimes do good strategies". Okay, he's a smart kid, why doesn't he try to build himself some support items to emulate the quirks he spends so long studying? He could be Iron Man, he could be Batman, Syndrome, etc. But no. Okay, he wants to be a more physical hero like his icon All Might, but he never trained! He's been all too happy not doing anything but still wanting to join the Hero Course all his life. Maybe it's something minor, but it has bothered me for a while
The literal show is abour villains and superheroes and the literal fans made it gay and romance making the characters like they dont even have Powers and also the ost "you say run" slaps because its iconic, istg i really want to slap the weird fans Making it weird and "romantic"
Speak for yourself man I loved mha
As a video essayist, I fucking loved this video. Thank you for making it. It has just so much confidence.
It’s been a second since I watched you’re videos
I agree with you, Another problem i have with video essays is that a lot of them can come across as gaslighting, especially since some would say the same rhotoric instead of challenging assumptions or being honest
Honestly i would have to disagree that deku doesnot get mad .we see him loose his temper when bakugo almost died ,he couldnot control his power and his moves became much simpler. Seson 7 of mha was the best season in the entire show .it literally touched on all topics we got backstory of shoji ,spinner and so many more .
It's bad because the writer can't remember half the stuff he's written then defaults to writing stuff for 10 year olds. The original primes was supposed to be about individuality, and the needs for individuals to take action, the last two sessions are just bend over to authority, do as your told, don't try to be a hero unless your already a hero.
Will you be doing another MHA video now that the manga is over?
MHA heroes really have too much plot armor, especially Class 1A. I mean, a bunch of high school students fought the strongest villain in the world, and somehow not a single one died. How is that even possible?
I was always wondering " what did jelly bean do?"
You pronounced "epitome" as eh-pit-owm. It should be pronounced eh-pit-oh-me.
Deku didn’t have any growth? He had plenty of growth developing his body, his quirk, how he worked alongside classmates/heros, and creating his own identity thats not just a replica of all-might. Some of your points are valid but saying theres no growth just because he didnt rage is hilarious. It just wasnt in his nature
Even though this show gets a lot of hate, I still really enjoy it. Sure, it isn't the most perfect writing ever, but I still find it entertaining! Plus, I love the soundtrack and how colorful it is, it's just fun to me. I will never call it a perfect show and it's okay that people dislike it. This video is really nice though, you actually give some good insight on the show rather than just saying it's bad cause it's popular lol.
Guys....... A girl who is a child is cringe.......... In other news, water is wet.
9:05 Twice is awesome and a bean! He didn't need to die like that. Hawks you bastard!!!
7:49 Thank you for proving the joke that there are more forgettable character in 1A when you REMEMBER the invisible one over them! [Also yeah Shoji's cool]
7:41 And we basically only remember the blond one because he's a Superdick! steel because he's Kirishima's metal twin, Ibarra because she's a religious weirdo, and Kendo because she's Monoma's handler/babysitter/ the Misty to his Brock (aka the sane one who slaps him when he's being a fuck nugget)
6:25 You know the worst part about this fact.... they do FUCKING NOTHING with it!! All that teasing, and they don't get together in the end. A waste of everyone's fucking time (and I don't even like the ship in the 1st place so I'm not mad they didn't get together because I wanted that to happen, I'm mad because it was a waste of time)
1. George was innocent. 2. Carson just dated a 17 year old at age 19
So what you saying that mha did everthing right in the beginning, but the stuff they did right only works in small amounts. so the fact mha has gone on for so long, have caused these once good things to become overused and stale. Which leeds to mha getting worser over time. Honestly, that is a take i never heard before but also one i really like the sound of. So mha is escentially milk. It was great when fresh, but overtime spoiled and became bad.
I absolutely despise how rushed it was WHY
Bros just addicted to foils.
i watched this like a year ago and coming back to it makes me so happy
Not really a MHA fan per say, but I can say that rewatching this show can be an absolute CHORE, most definitely because of the numerous amount of unnecessary flashbacks and the way too long recaps at the beginning of episodes Oh and All Might/Toshinori is the best character (imo) and mama (Inko) Midoriya needs more love
Your video is on point. I used to think mha had absolutely no flaws, but I'm starting to rethink.
seu vídeo é engraçado e com boas críticas, não acredito que tenha tão poucos likes
Thank you for explaining why you believe my hero academia could be better than it is and I agree with a good bit of this My hero is unironically my favorite anime because I’m a huge superhero guy but I realize things haven’t been the same hence all the videos trashing or simply saying the show lost its way. Your one of them that says yes these are problems the show has but it didn’t need to be there like the flashbacks, Bland action set pieces, to many boring characters with no noticeable growth, un evolving messages. I may not agree with all this but I know all those elements you said should’ve been better I love my hero academia but your right it could’ve been greater
This video (essay) actually does suck. You really proved your point. Low key genius
Yup, nice video
You kinda look like simon from Sidemen
1:20 You couldn't recognize half of these if it wasn't for the fact that these are just the most overused clip arts of the characters.
And who said that it was any good in the first place?? That sht NEVER KI11S OFF ANY OF THEIR MAIN CHARACTERS. We don't care about side characters we wan't loss of main ones. That thing with a nerd for a protagonist is worser than fairy tail and one piece of sht😊
Will I did it
I watched it a few years ago and was obsessed with it, cant remember why i stopped watching it but i really think the fandom just gives it a bad reputation 😭
Thank you!
This is why I enjoy writing and reading my hero academia fanfiction, because the show has good characters and a good world to play around with! There are a ton of potential interesting character traits for Midoriya, if only the show explored them. He's been dealing with bullying and discrimination his whole life, constantly being told he's lesser, so why don't we deal with that? He's a hero fanboy that keeps analysis notebooks on several different heroes, but we only ever see him use that knowledge with the sludge villain. He *worships* heroes, but he's never been confronted with their flaws. I personally think the show would've been a lot more interesting if it made Midoriya the first quirkless hero, like a less traumatized batman. Seriously dive into the flaws with quirk discrimination in hero society, actively change things at the end of the show. I'm honestly kinda pissed they made it so Midoriya was only worth paying attention to after he got a quirk. Anyway I just wanted to say the editing of this video is really good!! Very engaging, I should've been asleep 20 minutes ago
I think Izuku should have dealt with all the trauma that Bakugo gave him as a kid. Actually realising Izuku's not to blame for his own bullying and calling kacchan Bakugou instead.
I love deku as a character but I agree
With Gorige not found yes he was guilty but at the same time mislead by her age because in a photo her and her friend had 21 Wristbands and she never said her age at all at the small party so he thought her and her friends were 21 that’s why they were let in one gorges and dreams small party is because they thought she was 21 or older. So yeah he did still do something bad but she also wanted to destroy his career because her and Her friends didn’t like him. Sorry I just wanted to say just that but everyone on this list is at fault for what they did except for gorge sense he thought she was past 21 years of age and if they had said there ages then they wouldn’t have been drinking or be there and plus he was also mis led by her and he had thought it was consensual without words, he now know that was dumb of him and to never do that I do not know how to spell his name correctly unfortunately… :I
Please leave George alone, turns out the “victim” actually admitted she lied
You are NOT ready for Friday Night Funkin.
I agree Deku couldve been more than just an aspiring hero but he has gotten angry and made foolish mistakes at times i remember
