Breaking Down Barriers to Self Compassion with Dr. Kristin Neff
Dr. Kristin Neff received her doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, and is currently an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.
During Dr. Neff's last year of graduate school she became interested in Buddhism and has been practicing meditation in the Insight Meditation tradition ever since. While doing her post-doctoral work she decided to conduct research on self-compassion - a central construct in Buddhist psychology and one that had not yet been examined empirically. Dr. Neff is a pioneer in the field of self-compassion research, creating a scale to measure the construct almost 20 years ago.
Dr. Neff will be a guest speaker at The Master Series: Connection Edition 2022. For more information follow the link below 👇

Thank You🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you
Beautiful! It is so rare, but SO important, to get the message that BOTH self-acceptance and self-change can and should be embraced. I have been following you for years and incorporating your ideas into my practice as a psychotherapist. I have noticed that men resist it more than women. For a long time I thought that men were just stuck in a sort of unhealthy macho place. I have come to think, instead, that (generally) men are different but not necessarily emotionally unhealthy ("toxic"). For us, "fierce" compassion is not about gently encouraging ourselves to do something important and reminding ourselve that we're not perfect and it's okay. It's a stronger message that drives us. It's more like "Get off your ass and get it done bucko!" On the surface this may seem antithetical to self-compassion. The very thing your work is aimed at addressing, because it can come from and lead to more unhelpful shame. I get it. I do. Still, I believe that there is a way that this stronger message can still be compassionate. I haven't figured out exactly how to convey this to male clients, but I'm working on it. Surely you have noticed over the years that men are not drawn to your work like women. This video itself doesn't include any men. It's a shame, because I believe men could benefit greatly by the essence of your message. The key is shifting from the idea that there is something fundamentally wrong with men that needs to be fixed first, and understanding the masculine sensibility and the language that it uses and understands. Maybe men (like me?) need to figure out how to translate your work for men. Okay, well then... get off your ass and do it bucko!
PS. I attended a workshop with you a few years ago in London and we actually talked about this during a break.
Thank you so much! ! Have had headache for 3 years now, but with this I can start thinking of a new tomorrow! THANKS
thank you for the Arabic subtitles!
I am so thankful for the work being again.
Amazing information! All diseases can be cured..
FAWN! Trauma survivors fawn, too, in an effort to make the abuser 'like them better' and perhaps reduce the injury about to be inflicted. I know trauma survivors who, in 40 years, have never fought or fled; they only fawn or freeze. I wish I could learn more about freeze and fawn.
شكرا جزيلا
thank you
This looks amazing 🤩
This information is little known amongst the general public but critical for human health. Thank you for getting it out there. The next step might be addressing the role of social media. Many young people are developing strange, unhealthy behavioral responses to social media, exasperated by covid, like extreme anxiety, ticks, and so on. This was observed while summer camp volunteering this year. Might this also be addressed by the experts?
