Raven (The Trickster) | Performed by the Oakville Wind Orchestra
Raven comes from a song shared by Squamish First Nation artist and performer Bob Baker. In this piece you will get to experience the music of one of North America's First Peoples. Raven flows from a playful pentatonic melody and uses falloffs to imitate the original vocal style of the Eagle Song Dancers. Bob Baker and the Eagle Song Dancers (Spakwus Slolem) come from the Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound territory in the interior of British Columbia.There are many stories in West Coast indigenous culture that feature Raven. He is depicted as a benevolent trickster who through his trickery brings gifts and goodness to the world. We are honoured to present him to you in this recording.
