RV Cummins Swap - #20 - It's on the road!
มุมมอง 279หลายเดือนก่อน
After 3.5 years, it's finally dialed in and on the road. It's so awesome!!!!
3 years in the works and the Honey is finally on the road. The 12 valve sings a beautiful song.

RV Cummins Swap - #19 - Power steering pump
มุมมอง 2753 หลายเดือนก่อน
EDIT 8/18/2024 This video has bad information in it. DON'T DO WHAT I DID! The pump worked for a while but eventually quit! Doing what I did blocked off some internal ports and damaged the pump to failure. I forgot to add this tidbit. The power steering pump wasn't working...AT ALL. He's how I remedied that.
RV Cummins Swap - #18 - Last Update Before Road Testing???
มุมมอง 7383 หลายเดือนก่อน
There are just a few things to wrap up before I get this rig on the road for testing. It's getting closer!!!!!!!
RV Cummins Swap - #17 - Engine Wiring
มุมมอง 3093 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's getting closer! Just a short update that shows progress on the engine wiring and instrumentation wiring. Never mind the mess inside, there's a lot going on. Regardless, this Cummins is days away from being fired up in it's new home.

RV Cummins Swap - #15 - Winter Projects & Instruments
มุมมอง 925 หลายเดือนก่อน
I made this video last fall. I never uploaded it. I thought it might be boring, but screw it, I'm uploading it. It is LONG winded and has more information you may need or care about. But, Kim makes an appearance at the end with her thoughts.
RV Cummins Swap - #14 - Engine Plumbing
มุมมอง 306ปีที่แล้ว
This video covers all the engine plumbing, including engine coolant, trans cooling lines and hydro-boost lines.
RV Cummins Swap - #13 - Drive shaft and Engine Cooling
มุมมอง 531ปีที่แล้ว
Just a quick update as to what's going on with the RV. I got the drive shaft installed and I have the core support/radiator/charge air cooler mocked up. It's coming along nicely.
RV Cummins Swap - #12 - Throttle Linkage & TPS
มุมมอง 857ปีที่แล้ว
I tackled the integration of the throttle linkage and mounted the TPS required for the Allison. It turned out pretty sweet.
RV Cummins Swap - #11 - Transmission Gear Selector...how did I do it?
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Here is how I adapted the Allison transmission gear selector into the RV. This method could probably be used in any vehicle. You just have to use your imagination.
RV Cummins Swap - #10 - Getting the Cummins In
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
It's been a few months, but I finally got a video to upload...and it's a good one! This is probably the one that everyone want's to see. Has the mystery been solved? Will a Cummins fit into a P-30 chassis? The answer is a resounding YES!!!
RV Cummins Swap - #9 - The 454s Fate
มุมมอง 9182 ปีที่แล้ว
As you know, the original RV 454 was not running well when she came home. The compression test confirmed something was hosed. The reality of the engine being f ed is what spawned the whole Cummins swap to begin with. Anyways, it will live on with someone else and I can't wait to see it back on the road.

i have a engine swap coming up . i have an Airstream with a great 454 and hoping for better fuel mileage 6.5 mpg now , still looking at international 444 ,a 7.3 a 5.9 Cummins and have decided not to use a Duramax , what did you do about noise ? Thanks
Runs like a Spring chicken Very few videos of Diesel swap Gas Engine RV. it would be nice to see more or this Great work.
Wow, the thing runs like a champ now!
Indeed!
what do you think you got in it for Jason time in the transmission, if you dont mind me asking just wondering what a project like this would cost to get an Allison to run right .
Fantastic! Burnout compilation next?
Yea!!! 👏👏👏🇺🇸👏👏👏
Moteur tourne pas super quand vous rouler
Awesome 👌
Looking good, the smile and the excitement say it all congratulations. I have a 12 valve and a 6spd Allison, looking for a camper worth the effort. Looks and sounds great. ENJOY
@@travis1572 the combination is fantastic from my initial impressions. I do need to some minor tuning on the transmission. 4, 5, and 6 come too late. All part of the enjoyment. It’s been a long time coming. Lots of blood, sweat and tears…literally.
I found the TPS from Pace to be very fragile weak plastic and after a while it failed with intermittant weird symptoms...replaced with an Allison TPS which is very rugged and basically more designed to be within a tough engine bay environment...hopefully your does not break but if it should then take a look at the Allison ones they're bomb proof!
Cool Man! Nice Work! You're doing something I've daydreamed about doing with an old GMC Royale dropping in a 6.6 Duramax.
RV Resto-Mod - Who would have thunk it! Very cool.
I wonder how hard a 4x4 conversion would be on this
@@thundermite1241 I’m sure it could be done, but that’s way above my pay grade and ambition level, lol.
Enough with music
@@tdc9136 but why? It kicks ass.
Motor looks sick looks like something off a tractor , and a straight 6 diesel probably out live everyone
Even better. It’s a school bus 5.9 Cummins in a Chevy P30 chassis RV.
Looks great, good job .love the build.
I completely understand how you feel about feel about your Florida vacation being over. I would feel the same way. I see your cat is curious about your Arduino kit.
Good for you ,,,,tell us when it's Ready to drive!
Love the build. Wish I would have found you sooner, Jason is the guy to go through when trying to get the Allison going. Looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
Dakota digital makes good replacement gauge clusters but i dont think they are touchscreen
Good call, 26:00 you saved a lot of money 💰 using a bus transmission. A Allison from a Duramax would of cost a lot more..to buy a adapter plate is over a 1K plus .what do you think the harnesses ,brain and what ever it takes to get the transmission to work?
As I had mentioned, I went to Jason at Transmissiontuner.com. Being this is a custom application, I had to build the harness myself. He sent me the TCM, all the connectors, plugs, a prewired main relay, wires, split loom and friction tape. It was maybe just over 1k for that. There is a base tune in the TCM. Once the RV is on the road, he will tune it remotely. I will drive the RV and he monitors and checks stuff in real-time and make any adjustments he sees fit. I’m editing a new video today I’m going to post up and it will show the harness.
How much for the trans. Tcm and harnesses to get it rolling?
I paid 700 bucks for it. The guy said it was good. I guess I’m going to find out this year if he was being truthful. Indications to me are is it’s good. The oil I drained out were bright red with no burnt smell, so fingers crossed. The TCM and harness kit was just a tick over 1k.
Cool project... looking forward to seeing more!
Oh yeah brother, so glad I found you!!!!!
Are you doing something similar? The reason I am documenting this build is to hope I can help people out. I'm not exactly great in front of the camera and I tend to get long winded and ramble quite a bit, but if I can help just one person, I'd be tickled to death.
😅what year and what trans are you using
A 2008 Allison 2350 6-speed, otherwise generically refereed to as an Allison 2000. It was out of a GM Top Kick or Kodiak chassis. That trans used to have a Duramax bolted to it.
@iwens1966 thanks I will find that trans
@@larryford8633 if you’re doing something similar, an Allison 1000 will work too. This 2000 might be overkill, but it will be bulletproof.
@iwens1966 thanks for info will be helpful
Now THAT sounds like a morotcycle should sound! Full, rich, strong, not obnoxious, tinny, farting/blatting.
Sounds even better in person, and looks great. My BIL did some great work on this bike.
Some years back, Scott, my future BIL, said he was looiing for a project. I suggested a rephased XS650, and he went for it big time.
I always wanted to do what your doing except I would have used an old Airstream MH or, an Argosy. Both have GM chassis. You could even do a four wheel drive system from an old GM pickup truck. You are doing a great job, I can't wait to see the first time you go down the road with it 👍 👊
Thanks. i do agree with the Airstream idea, but I couldn't pass this one up because the price was great LOL.
That’s a crossover year- it’s got the multi gauge dial cluster that was used from late 98 up until the end of 2000. Most buses that have a 12 valve have the older gm style cluster.
Yep, you are correct. I was thinking about integrating the bus gauge cluster into the RV. The only thing I will not be able to interface to it is the speedo and tach. The original mechanical AT545 was scrapped and the 2350HS is electronic. I'll have to figure out what I can do there.
Looking good!!👍
Excellent work!!! 💯 Made in America!!!
And I forgot to ask you do you want to get rid of that old bus let me know appreciate you
I sold the tires (they were in great shape), and the bus went to scrap. Sorry.
@@iwens1966 ok thanks
Hey bud very good video I like it a lot better than music but I got to ask you a question do you have the motor and transmission still that came out of that motorhome and if so do you want to sell it let me know I appreciate it brother appreciate you keep up the good work
Engine and trans were sold. Sorry
Very nice job I'd did u get rid of the 454 yet if not let me know
Yep, she's gone. Sold it.
keep us up dated thanks
Sounds good 👍🏼
Glad to see it’s getting a new life!
Wow, she cranked right up!
Thats a pure beauty right there man ! Awesome design , cool exhaust sound , just perfect .
You are one of the few on TH-cam Besides only Rv Forums doing This. Not On you TH-cam A guy Has A Lotus V8 Swap DeLorean not on TH-cam.
I test drove a 1985 Honey last year with a factory GM 6.2L Diesel. It was driveable but needed a lot of work, namely it leaked oil like a sieve. I ended up buying a 40' 1990 Bounder with a Ford 460. It does ok, but I would love to do a Cummins swap someday. The extra torque and fuel economy would be very welcome. A new Honda Civic has more power than my 460.
Some bread trucks came with the 3.9L 4 cylinder Cummins engine stock. I don’t know what the chassis were for those.
I'm not sure either.
I think that could have been the Oshkosh X-line chassis if it was rear engine.
Would it be easier to convert the bus to an RV?
I don't really know. It might be equal amounts of effort. It's either install a a new engine and transmission on the RV or install plumbing, electrical, walls, beds etc., etc. That's a ton of work too. The biggest factor is i don't want to convert a bus to a camper. It's too big, too heavy, and too hippy. It's been done a million times and I am not particularly a fan. I like the fact that there are not too many old RVs like this sporting a 12 valve Cummins. THAT is unique and that's what I like......plus better MPGs than the bus.
cool man I love the project it's an uncommon converting an old RV to good old Cummins turbo diesel :-)
Something I've been thinking of doing myself. Good info, especially the transmission information. Can't wait to see what you come up with for engine and transmission mountings.
Nul à chier?
this iis great info for me , i have a 73 Dodge travco i want to convert . Thanks
I like the fuel tank. May I know where did you get the tank from?
be better too put rv interior in bus.. drives will drive better longer by far then wobbily rv
