That was awesome! Y'all are great! First time I ever saw the Blue Devils was my freshman year of high school way back in 1976 at the DCI finals in Philadelphia. Legend was the concert number then too. Still have to watch that video at least once a month. Still gives me chills. 👍👍👍👍

G bugles have been made with valves for over 50 years.
Too bad this will be forever compared to the ‘76 version. Not so much about how worse these kids are…but nothing will ever touch that Bonnie Ott trumpeted masterpiece.
Definitely sounds a bit naked without cymbals. This lacks the bite and finesse from years past. Too sterile.

This is BD international, not the A corps. It’s not really comparable.
Maybe it is just the poor recording, but it sounds like there are some serious phasing issues...especially between percussion and brass.

Its due to their field placement, the sound is meant for the drum major and people directly behind, this goes with the speed of sound, You can watch a video on it. Its very interesting.

This sounds like a watered-down high school arrangement of BD 76. Why not use Jim Ott's concert band arrangement instead? It's 1000x better than this one, and it stays true to his original arrangement.

BD trumpets are getting worse every year
Well, considering that this is the international group, not the A corps, I can see why this could be considered "worse" since they don't quite the pool of prospective trumpet players the A corps does. A group can only be as good as the people in it. So, of course, when you have 300+ trumpet players going for one corps, you'll probably get a lot of good players, vs a corps like this that probably gets 100 max. Plus this group doesn't have the pressure of competition, so there's not necessarily a "need" for them to always perform as best as they can. And who are you to judge them? You don't know how hard they work. I doubt you've marched with them, since you didn't know that this was the international group that's only been around for a couple years. So 🖕
