I really hope Gukesh beats Ding in the WC partially because I root for him but also because if Gukesh wins Magnus might want to Challenge him
I don't think Gukesh will win. Ding is way better than him. And if they reach tiebreaks, Ding will win easily because Gukesh is quite bad at rapid/blitz.

A round-robin tournament or all-play-all tournament is a competition format in which each contestant meets every other participant, usually in turn. The tournament is an eight-player, double round-robin tournament, meaning there are 14 rounds with each player facing the others twice: once with the black pieces and once with the white pieces Players from the same federation are required to play each other in the first rounds of each half to avoid collusion. The players affected in the 2024 Women's Candidates are Kateryna Lagno and Aleksandra Goryachkina representing FIDE, Lei Tingjie and Tan Zhongyi representing China, and R Vaishali and Koneru Humpy representing India. They will face each other in rounds 1 and 8. Tiebreaks for the first place are addressed as follows: • Players would play two rapid chess games at 15 minutes plus 10 seconds per move. If a three- to six-way tie had occurred, a single round-robin would be played. If seven or eight players had been tied, a single round-robin would be played with a time limit of 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. • If any players had still been tied for first after the rapid chess games, they would play two blitz chess games at 3 minutes plus 2 seconds per move. In the case of more than two players being tied, a single round-robin would be played. • If any players were still tied for first after these blitz chess games, the remaining players would play a knock-out blitz tournament at the same time control. In each mini-match of the proposed knock-out tournament, the first player to win a game would win the mini-match. Ties for places other than first will be broken by, in order: (1) Sonneborn-Berger score; (2) total number of wins; (3) head-to-head score among tied players; (4) drawing of lots. Russian players' flags are displayed as the FIDE flag, as FIDE banned Russian and Belarusian flags from FIDE-rated events in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Aleksandra Goryachkina finished first in the Women's Chess World Cup 2023, but had already qualified for the Candidates through the FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2022-23. She is replaced by the highest-rated player on the January 2024 FIDE rating list who has played a minimum 30 games. Anna Muzychuk finished second in the Women's Grand Swiss 2023, but she had already qualified for the Candidates through the Women's Chess World Cup 2023. According to the regulations, the second spot for the Candidates via the Women's Grand Swiss was awarded to the highest finisher of the Grand Swiss who had not already qualified (3rd-place finisher Tan Zhongyi). Despite qualifying for the Candidates Tournament by winning the 2023 FIDE World Cup,former World Champion Magnus Carlsen decided not to compete in Toronto. As a result, Nijat Abasov, who finished fourth at the World Cup, qualified to the Candidates Tournament 2024 as Carlsen's replacement. The highest rated player in the January 2024 rating list who has not yet qualified for the Candidates or World Championship, and has participated in at least four FIDE Circuit classical events, qualified for the Candidates. The tournament is an eight-player, double round-robin tournament, meaning there are 14 rounds with each player facing the others twice: once with the black pieces and once with the white pieces. Players from the same federation are required to play each other in the first rounds of each half[5] to avoid collusion. The players affected in the 2024 Candidates are R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi and Gukesh D from India, and Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura from the United States. The former three will face one another in rounds 1-3 and 8-10, while the latter two will face each other in rounds 1 and 8. Tiebreaks for the first place are addressed as follows:[5] • Players would play two rapid chess games at 15 minutes plus 10 seconds per move. Russian players' flags are displayed as the FIDE flag, as Russian and Belarusian flags have been banned from FIDE-rated events in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The regulations stated that it would be the top three finishers other than Ding and Nepomniachtchi. (And that if both finished in the top four of the World Cup, then the World Cup qualifiers would be the other two players in the top four; and two players with the highest rating in the January 2024 ranking list would qualify for the event instead of one). However neither of these players reached the World Cup semifinals: Ding elected not to play, and Nepomniachtchi lost in the fifth round. Fabiano Caruana finished first in the 2023 FIDE Circuit, but had already qualified for the Candidates through a third place finish at the Chess World Cup 2023. As a result, the qualifying spot was awarded to the highest finisher of the FIDE Circuit who had not already qualified for the event (Gukesh D). Provided the player has played at least 4 classical time control tournaments eligible for the 2023 FIDE Circuit. Nh2 gxh3 13. gxh3 Bxd1 0-1 I began trying it because I hated the way white tries to push away my pawn's defender. Then, after a few tries with it, I began to realize it's actually pretty damn strong! 😳 And I think that maybe not a lot of people at my level run into it much because they seem to make a lot of mistakes when I get to play it.
Those diagonals are hard to see sometimes lol but it looks to me like it's getting tough unless white plays the right things. My pawn is on his way to try to break open H for my rook and queen to go to work. And there's nothing more humiliating than losing like that 😂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙏 @since1876

Smothered mate: First queen move to B6 and king need to move to h1, then horse give a check in f2 and king move to g1, then perform a double check by moving horse to h3, then king need to move to h1, then we do a brilliant queen sacrifice by moving the queen to g1 and it's forced that the rook need to take the queen in g1, then eventually move the horse to f3 and that's a checkmate (smothered Checkmate)
Thnx man❤
