❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ you’re doing a great job ❤ 1st video watched ❤❤ it really works… be careful with it❤
Nice comparison, thanks. Couple of questions… How long had the pigs been there compared to the goats? Was the goat section as bad as the rest of it? They did a great job of opening up the area - would you recommend putting them in first & then bringing in the pigs to turn it over? Cheers.
For which to have first I would say the pigs if things are really rough with lots of briars, but if it’s more tame it probably won’t matter much. The pigs I usually have in there 7 days minimum and up to 10 days. Goats I had in the areas just a couple days to clean up a bit. Hope that helps! Sorry for the delay!
@@farmasaurus thanks 👍
A pumpkin is a squash
You can never have too many tomatoes! Good job!
Thank you! Agreed!
thanks you
Eat them when they are small and they taste just like squash! 👍
Oooo I’ll have to try that.
Pumpkins are in the squash family so you are right
I’ll take it!
Hmmm depending on your grow zone and season, those could be young butternut squash or spaghetti squash
That’s what I thought initially and what the app said, but people keep saying they look to be pumpkins. 😂 We will see eventually.
@@farmasaurus true, could be hybrid or cross pollination too, depending on where you got the seeds/plant from
@@hankguillams5904 these were planted unintentionally lol. Probably by the chickens at some point. We give them lots of scraps and such so who knows. 😂
That fence is going to be a problem.. I gave up on the wire and went to recycled roofing metal..
The fence is definitely a hassle and I had some learning to do. Initially my energizer was far too weak, but it works well now that I upgraded as long as I set it up correctly… which I failed to do last time. Still it is a pain and I’m looking to implement something different next year.
@@farmasaurus I'm off grid no electric fence.. Those little bulldozers will escape, under over through.. and smart.. I use wire for concrete, slabs called mesh, has thicker wire smaller squares and its cheep. 3x8.. 6 bucks.. and re- bar..

This is exactly why Forestry and forest fires are Not a Bad Thing

Eliminating the browse line , for native species , is a dangerous practice
Hey thanks for your comment! Do you care to elaborate?
@@farmasaurus the pigs are indiscriminate and not only destroying invasives ... would like to know what exactly you're clearing and why.
Pigs eat Everything that they can possibly reach., thus when they ," clean" an area , there is nothing within reach of our native species such as rabbits ,deer etc. In area the P.G.C. claim there is 4or 5 deer per acre. If you remove natural browse , the acreage can no longer sustain said inhabitants.

In Africa they are now using this method to make the dry savannies green again. They keep the cattle at one spot for a while and then move them to another spot. This is continuing all the time. The following year the nature looks very different

ABSOLUTLY Brilliant! You’re doing so good not buying into clearing the land in other more devastating manors. I’ve seen ppl use chicken and ducks in the garden too. Brilliant! Great Share! Edit, how are you keeping feral pigs in that fence! Is it charged? Why haven’t they dig under, so many questions. But really the truth of the matter is idk 🤷♂️
@@ohsuziq3916 hey thanks for the comment I appreciate your kind words! The pigs are domesticated, but of course like to live by their own rules haha. The fence is charged with a 3 joule energizer. As long as it is on, fence is up, and not grounded it has kept them in just fine. They root and pile up dirt along the fence, but they don’t dig under it. If anything they make mounds right next to the fence or pile dirt on it that I have to shake off. 😂
Pigs are spreading seeds. Give em some more to eat, you’ll have a good forest in no time 😂

My whole yard is squash land this season!!! From butternut to acorn to white pumpkin to zucchini and not a single one was planted by me!!! 😂😂😂 my chickens did a terrible seed job this season but a lovely planting one!!! I only planted some beans, cucumbers, melons this year the chickens did the rest. 😂❤❤❤
@@thatcrazychicken amazing!!!
I would have used goats instead...
Usually I agree, but pigs eat EVERYTHING that goats don’t. Plus if this is his meat supply he’s fattening them up for free while clearing the land. ❤. We had the goats and I miss them but my geese do the same job the goats did with less maintenance! And they don’t try to mate me every time I step outside 😂😂😂❤
Goats will never do as good a job clearing as pigs do. Plus as another comment stated he is getting the pigs ready for their finish weight.
@@dannywhatley4900 I have both, but the pigs do a few things the goats don’t. 1. Uproot and destroy invasive plants. Goats will eat them down, it they will have their roots and come right back. 2. They disturb the native seed bank in the area allowing for native species to replace what they destroy. 3. Their weight allows them to really break up and help compost the leaves, sticks, and rotten wood. I am with you on using the goats though. I do it currently and will continue to.

Great video Jake! Your a great inspiration and encoureger to me a many others. As you know I'm in that older generation. Bought 6 acres last year on a mountain and recreating from an urban homesteader to a rural start over all over again in my 60s. Loving it. You gave me advice on my chicken coop flimsy door recently. I could not do everything you suggested but your desire to help me with ideas propelled me to do what I could afford. I'll be updating my chicken run on my channel soon. I completed the coop finally today. Your right Jake. It's not an age related issue, but a Godly thing to be out with Gods creation. To grow food and try as much as possible to be self sustaining. Been only 9 months on the mountain now and excited each day for life. We raised 3 kids and did a lot of homeschool ourselves back in the 90s and early 2000s. I can relate with what your doing. Very exciting. Take care and God bless. Looking forward to your vids as you do them...
@@sparksfamilyhomestead thanks man I appreciate that. When I started making videos it was really my wife’s idea, but the amount of positive feedback I’m getting from you and others really makes me feel like it’s worthwhile. Always happy to help and I hope to continue to find joy in doing it!
