Another band I hadn't heard of before. This song really appeals to me with its directness and simplicity. It's full of strong, and slightly desolate imagery, which always appeals to my slightly dark soul.

This song was written by Townes Van Zandt, and I think his version is the benchmark, but I think I first heard Emmylou Harris sing it. There have been so many versions of it that it clearly has universal appeal. Jim is a massive Elvis Costello fan, although this wasn't a song that he knew well; I just happened to suggest it as I had heard it on a playlist and liked the chorus. Coincidently, Jim saw Elvis Costello live the previous night in Glasgow, although naughty Elvis did not sing this!

This is the Joan Baez/Fleet Foxes standard take on an old folksong about a suitor trying to gain the hand of a lover and the parents being less than well-disposed to the idea. I can never resist the oh-so-eighties sound of Time after Time. (Am I the only person who immediately thinks of Bette Davis Eyes as soon as I hear it?) Hi Mathew do you still have this guitar. I have just ordered one never had a telecaster and looking for a clean sound and wondered if these pickups gave you a great clean tone. Most folk seem to put Seymour Duncan quarter pounders in there telecasters, but not checked them out about clean tone yet . Did you ever put brass saddles on and change pots and electrics, wondered if it made much difference. Many thanks Peter

A multipurpose tool for when you can’t have multiple guitars on the road, like a pub/café cover-song musician who can use the compact flexibility. It’s also great for composing and playing on the couch while watching TH-cam but that use alone wouldn‘t justify buying or keeping one. Of the several dozen guitars I've owned of all makes/types, etc...$500-3000...the neck of this HB was just flawless in every way...even the set up from factory was very decent. The ash was also gorgeous but HEAVY as schiff. Still...like the CV50's I've recently bought to learn from...this HB is a STEAL. Won't drop Fralin or Lollars in it...but a $50 set of Bootstraps to see what the hub-bub is about those pups. Nice review and playing! Remove neck pup from tone pot...it'll brighten a bit.

    10/10 Fantastic guitar. I bought one but you didn't mention the lack of a string tree on the headstock due to the variable tuning pegs, mine also has locking tuners which according to Fret King keeps the tuning stable.!

    • @matboy314
      @matboy314 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @southhams, I couldn't agree with you more. I was feeling frustrated this week with my Gretsch, as I was trying a very slightly lighter string gauge, (still a wound third though), and it is a pig to keep in tune. When I examined it it became obvious that the strings all pull through the nut at a slight lateral angle. The tune-o-matic style bridge also seems to grip the strings as it can ping when you use the Bigsby trem. In contrast, the Fret King has a totally straight run through the nut to the heads, no vertical bending as the tuning heads are different heights to ensure a perfect, straight, string run, and locking tuners. The fat brass bridge saddles don't pinch either, and the result is amazing tuning stability, even with tremolo arm use. I didn't sufficiently emphasise this, but since getting the guitar, I have come to love it more than my other three remaining electrics.
