Ten Tips For Telogen Effluvium Hairloss / Before & After Hairloss
In this video I will share ten tips and tricks that helped me with my hairloss from telogen effluvium. I shed for 14 months and it is finally now slowing down. My thumbnail shows me sitting on the actual throne in Game of Thrones in Ireland after filming the last season with my Cersei Lannister hair. Two months after that the shedding began and I cut off over two feet of hair. The picture on the left is me today. I begin talking about my tips about 2 or so minutes into this video but the beginning is fun since it snowed the other day at the end of April! I hope this helps!

    Hey! Fellow IBD warrior here (Crohn's) and I am also going through this. I feel sick to my stomach every time I lose hair (which is all the time). Did you notice regrowth while actively losing hair, or did the regrowth happen after you were done shedding? Also, were you on prednisone? I feel as though that has contributed to my TE as well.

    Hi Jolene! You probably don't remember me, but about 12-15 years ago I spent a couple days with you down in Phoenix and met you through my old friend group. How has your hair loss been ? I have had chronic telegen effluvium since December 2019 after the birth of my son . 20 months on and off . I went to the dermatologist mad she gave me prescription minoxidil and now when shedding is like 10 times worse. Been on it for a month. Praying the shedding phase from the meds end soon. I have been crying my eyes out for days. I cut my hair to chin length and just really. Depressed. Glad I found your channel ❤️

    • @joleneroserein8123
      @joleneroserein8123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I am happy you reached out. This community is very supportive. TE is definitely depressing. We all have up and down days. It's okay to feel those feelings. My TE has slowed but depending on my illnesses, the pain and stress I am in etc. I will shed more or less. I think that is how things are going to be going forward so I try to work on acceptance and controlling my emotions techniques. These situations are a personal journey, I share what helps me so it can maybe help others. Has your derm done a biopsy? Remember that you have a choice to take what Dr's recommend. If it is not helping and your intuition tells you it is not for you go with your gut. There are many pressures put on people when it comes to prescription medications and it is a difficult choice to make when you desire an issue to go away. I deal with this on a regular basis managing my diseases. Some things work, some don't and others I feel deep down I don't want to take. It is important to advocate for yourself as well and weigh your options. Try your best to direct your energy to aspects of your life that you are grateful for and have hope.

    • @jennifermurschell7061

      @@joleneroserein8123 thank you for your response back. No biopsy as she is certain it is TE. I don’t have any balding spots thank god, my hair is just half the thickness it was a year and a half ago . She says I have had constant triggers. The birth of my son, then I had a cancer scare, then a colonoscopy which had me under anesthesia , my job that was beyond stressful working 60 plus hours a week while homeschooling my children. ( I have 4 - 10,8,4,1) and then I had breast implant surgery and went under anesthesia again. She is hopeful that I need to be patient with the minoxidil and let it do it’s thing for the next few weeks and hopefully the shedding should subside . She gave me the script 5 months ago and was uneasy about it so I decided to wait in hopes that it would correct itself on its own but it hasn’t. So here I am a month in . Too late too turn back now. I am using the topical , she wants me on oral but there are a lot of side effects I’m not sure I want to risk . Trying to be patient and get myself out of these funks but it’s so hard. I feel sick to my stomach everytime I wash or brush my hair. People says it’s just hair and I know that there could be a lot worse things going on in my life but it’s still hard. Gonna try and be brave and if the shedding doesn’t stop I guess I could look into a Wig for while 🥺

      @@jennifermurschell7061 I am sorry to hear all of that. Your situation sounds similar to mine with constant triggers from stress, surgeries, diseases and day to day grind. I too lost over 50 percent of my hair. Life is overwhelming and hard. I can tell you are very strong and am sorry you have to go through all of that. People love to make those comments that don't help at all and are abrasive. It's a challenge to understand something you are not going through which is why support groups are helpful. Just because you have more serious things going on in your body/life does not make something else less difficult to deal with. Not to mention adding another thing to your already upsetting and tough to manage pile. I can relate to how deflated and exhausted that makes you feel. I think looking into a wig is a good idea. Self esteem really gets depleted. This is just food for thought to follow. I seen two derms, one of which I have been going to for years and I am a second opinion kind of woman so I went to another. They both told me after 1 year of shedding they perform a biopsy to assure that it is not diffuse alopecia and it would help give me peace of mind knowing for sure it is TE and not fpb. Once again all doctors are different which makes things more complicated. I'm only putting that out there for you to do as you please with it but it sounds to me that you are following your intuition which is the most important. I am sending you thoughts of healing and strength.

      Morning I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with this. It is very difficult and what is going on in the world is not helpful with any stress you face. I'm sending you positive vibes. My initial trigger was a flare up of my ulcerative pancolitis accompanied with ecoli, and c diff. Then lice from my neice and surgical removal of a breast tumor. All of those things lead to it falling out for 14 months and it is just slowing again now. How about yourself? If you care to share. Any stressful event physically or emotionally can set this off.

My derm gave me a cream that helped cool it called betamethasone dipropionate and a medicated scalp oil that was even more soothing called fluocinolone acetonide topical oil. I still use these. I also used a couple different shampoos that are in one of my other videos (pics of the actual bottles) and I am currently using head and shoulders with tea tree oil that helps my scalp better. I cut my hair to my chin recently and it has helped me see myself more in a way that you described. The hair loss was a blow to me in that I have used it to hide my pain and illnesses behind it. I remember watching one of your videos on TE when I was going through my peak hair loss and you provided me with so much reassurance and comfort knowing i'm not alone. When I hit the moment of thinking it will never end, you gave encouragement that I needed to know it will end! TE has its moments of behaving and misbehaving but know that it will stop. Its so unbelievably difficult to go through but keep positive thoughts in your mind. Anytime you feel that rush of stress take a deep breath and imagine channeling good energy to your roots (sounds bizarre but genuinely helped me). You are so beautiful and anyone looking in could never tell that you've lost hair. I really hope the end of TE is near for you and your hair flourishes back to how it used to be. Sending all my love and i'm here for you!

      Mine never stopped & I noticed an increase in shed for a lot of people in sep / October. Could just be seasonal .Fluctuations are common in TE . Your TE probably never stopped but slowed down . Hang in there . Try not to stress about it . If you can invest in a hair topper that would be great . I never used mine but noticed that having it really takes half of your stress away . There are so many “ telogen effluvium “ support groups on fb . Please join them for support . So many women are going thru this . I have heard stories of ppl recovering in 2,3 ,4 years and some just have a chronic TE . You are not alone . Sending you lots of love . It’s just a difficult “Test “ God has put some women in and not something that others can understand except for those who are going thru this traumatic experience.

As a result my TE has been triggered and my hair is falling out a ton again. I plan on making another video soon but will appreciate any love and kind words in the meantime.

    Firstly, really sorry for your loss and the health issues you've been going through. I find these videos really helpful as its comforting knowing i'm not alone. I've been going through TE since March due to stress and coming off birth control after four years. It has started to slow down ever so slightly now but I'm still losing alot of hair every day but like you, I'm starting to just accept it. The only thing I would recommend after trying almost everything, is 1000mg of sea kelp. Its excellent for hair loss and regrowth so I'd highly recommend to you and everyone else going through hair loss. I hope things start looking up for you. All the best

      Thank you so much. I'm incredibly happy that these videos are helpful to others. The feedback and support from you wonderful people is just as helpful to me. I'm grateful. TE is a challenging thing to go through. I actually found out three days ago that my neice gave me lice on top of it all. Its been awful. My head had a reaction to the shampoo and my hair was falling out by the handfuls again. I became upset because of the trauma from the past year. It was tough. I have had enough and need a break. Trying to continue positive practices while tackling this new obstacle and praying the TE will not return full force. I will definitely try the sea kelp. Thank you for that recommendation. I'm continually sending out healing thoughts to all of you as well as other people struggling.

    So good to see you doing better . I am sorry about the loss in your family . I too lost my best friend in June as if loosing hair was not enough . Turns out I am allergic to most of the shampoos especially anti dandruff shampoos . My head would hurt 😢 and burn and my eyes would burn too with anti dandruff shampoos. My patch test is booked in nov so let’s see what they come up with . I take over the counter anti allergy 1-2 times a week . 9 months of shedding and it’s still active . Blood tests were fine . One dermo diagnosis was” TE due to irritant dermatitis “ I have been referred to another . Let’s see what that dermo has to say . I hope this really ends for us soon. Left with 50% of the hair .

    Hi girl, I have been losing so much hair since March on. It got better for a month and then again it got bad again it doesnt stop. I went to dermatologist in April she gave me minoxidil she said its TE but when i said my father got bald she said so its also genetic. I made a blood work done. Everythjng was normal i also checked my overies and my hormones. Everything came back normal.I cut my hair short. But i am seeing my scalp now my scalp is very sore most of the time and im losing hair everywhere in my scalp. I also lose baby hair I also asked them for biopsy they said no because my scalp look fine and biopsy doesnt help Do you also lose baby hair? You are not alone :( i hope its gonna finish for us sooner

    • @joleneroserein8123
      @joleneroserein8123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It's such an obstacle. I do lose some baby hairs but not nearly as many as the full length. My derm decided to hold off on my biopsy and check things at my follow up. However the way to diagnose androgenic alopecia/ female pattern baldness is with a biopsy. It would show miniaturization of the hair follicles which is different from TE. Or at least that is what my derm told me and showed me with her in office charts. Keep pushing forward, try to be as positive as possible and practice lots of self-care.

      @@saban9128 hummm an allergy is a good thing to check for. When I go back in July I'm going to mention that. Cutting my hair has really helped lift some weight. I still have days but am handling things better. I recommend it. Hair loss definitely sucks and my scalp pain, itching and buring is ridiculous. My hairdresser cut it a few more inches shorter after we chopped it. Luckily my hair is very curly so its harder to tell but I've lost more than half so far and its still shedding. One of my pigtails used to be thicker than both sides we cut off combined.

      Jolene you are lucky you had thick hair to begin with . Allergy Center do not do patch test in summer and I have been told to wait until September so this waiting game is hard . I hate the symptoms that come with it . I cannot use anti dandruff shampoo as it’s hurts more . Ordered a “free & clear shampoo “ and hoping it works as it is propylene glycol & fragrance free . There is not much choice when we have sensitive scalp .i must say this you look very pretty !
