Summer continues in well into August this year and more "first ever" harvest continues. It's quite rewarding to think that everything filling the garden started as just a single seed and has produced so much growth.

July is hot! A week long heatwave and multiple 100 degree days made working in the garden a challenge. As much as I'm not a fan of the hot weather, the eggplants, okras, and Philippines plants seem to disagree and did quite a bit of their growing throughout the month.

Summer is here. June is the month with the longest daylight in the year and the plants are loving it; lots of growth happened in such a short time. I've been picking strawberries regularly and sharing the treat with my dogs. They love them so much they follow me around every time they see me picking. One of them even started picking their own strawberries!

May is go time. We are past freezing temperatures after the first week of the month. Time to start acclimating the seedlings to the outside. This process is called "hardening off" and is especially important for warm loving plants to prevent transplant shock.

It is almost time to plant outside, well almost. Night to early morning temperature is still in the 40s and chance of frost is likely. In the meantime the seedlings are growing, some slower (herbs) or faster (tomatoes) than others. Dahlias are planted in grow bags. Last year I bought about 10 dahlia tubers, propagated them through division thereby doubling my stock. This year I bought twice as ...

There is certainly a shift in the weather. We've had some days where mornings are almost freezing then up to the 70s in the afternoon. Feeling like two seasons in a day! By the way, excuse the white noise. We are not too far from the freeway.

It's still winter and too cold to be planting outside. This is a glimpse of what plants I'll be starting from seeds this year and how I start them indoors. Let's start sowing some seeds while in our pajamas! ^_^
