Elliptical arch intersecting lines method
What is the total rise?
I have just seen exactly the same video on another TH-cam channel. "Cast in Style LTD". What's going on. Has one of you stolen the others video and posted it as your own? Both are from 5 years ago.
Phill Collins before Easy lover mate 😅 Good video though...
This is not the product shown on the add
Yup 8~)
Real craftsmanship.
Wouldn't want to do that job using that method....too much hard work and long windedness!! Fully threaded screws and mdf wedges are the way to go! Foam up after!!
These days I wedge it then using foam adhesive (NOT normal expanding foam). Absolutely rock solid and a much better hold. Yep, even stronger than nails.
Yep
Which foam adhesive u used?
Will foam alone be enough to hold a wooden door?
@@VeryBadReputation oh yes I hung my full weight from a piece of 2x4 that was foamed to the ceiling once. Didn’t move once. This isn’t normal expanding down. Don’t use that. This is foam ADHESIVE: “DOW INSTA STIK EXPANDING FOAM GRAB ADHESIVE GUN GRADE 750ML”
@@ununha sorry a bit late in replying DOW INSTA STIK EXPANDING FOAM GRAB ADHESIVE GUN GRADE 750ML
I nearly fell asleep watching this, but I can vouch for the technique. I’ve never had to build a door frame from total scratch before. After two days of false starts, I followed this and was done in no more than an hour. Thanks moonlighting Elton John from the 80’s!
I wish I could find wood that performed that well
Old school hard work , top of the range work there
Put this on 1.5x speed to see him working at quarter to five on a Friday afternoon.
haha quality
Imagine doing that all day. And in nice shoes!
Back when stuff was done properly bet that door opening still better than some of this new build shit
Ahh yes old school ,those were the days, I’m surprised he wasn’t using Fred Flintstones stone tools
Thank you. 12/22, Learned a lesson the hard way. Was doing a remodel project and fastened the lower end of the struts from the upper side. I couldn't get the struts to touch both upper and lower sides. I used shims and then stopped for the day. The next day, God helped me figure out that the lower part of the strut needs to be fastened "up" by nailing or screwing from the bottom. Since I'm an amatuer, I used screws. Unscrewed the struts, removed the shims and did the work again the better way.
A fisheye wide-angle lens wasn't the best option for showing straight and true!
Still not the same product...
When things were done right , I wonder where that guy is today
Unemployed for sure. Builders expect you to be able to set a door frame in 10 minutes.
@@rolandthethompsongunner64 he could probably build a door and fit it in an hour with just a saw, screwdriver every thing today is prepacked
in a coffin he made himself
@@uttaradit2 haha
On his farewell tour
Very nice. Many thanks.
Don't know how old this is , but the whole lot would fail the PASMA course in 2021 at the beggining of the Demonstrattion.
1995
That’s a thing of beauty. Not a power tool in sight. Yes it’s slower but would rather have a house built by time spent tradesman any day.
Good old cut nail....I don't miss using them on door linings for sure!
I have a squeaky one (or two) or these, I've given them a few blasts of 3 in 1 and waggled the door quite a lot but still sounds like a crying dog. I see no way into them to give them a good lubricating. Any tips please?
Try cleaning the hinges before lubricating them
@@lollipopyummy4924 They were cleaned within an inch of their life, at least everywhere I could get at them before I oiled them. That's the problem, the squeak is in the sealed bit.
@@markosolo wow I wasn't expecting you to reply after a year, have you solved the problem now?
@@markosolo I'm no expert but I'd suggest taking them off and soaking them in lubricant
@@lollipopyummy4924 I didn't no, I thought seeing as they were big boy fire door ones designed to keep idiots like me out, I should just give in before I break something lol I like the soaking them idea though, but something tell me they are pretty sealed.
Ah, craftsman porn. I feel like I need a cigarette and a glass of wine. (This man's picture is in the dictionary next to the definition of 'professional'.)
I'll take block layer to work ahead of me no need for inch packers around him
Elton John moonlighting as a chippy in the early 80's
And all these years later the frame’s still standing-better than it ever did.
Lol I thought the same thing. Rocket Maaaaaaan
No screws. Yikes
Nails are stronger than screws.
Cut nail will hold very very strongly
Painfully slow method. A 2x6(or 8 or10”) full piece would be done in a fraction of the time and be stronger. If placed properly, it could also hold the joining edges of the plywood floor panels.
Herring bone bridging is much stronger than solid bridging. The crossing point of the two pieces acts as a pivot and allows movement as the joists dry out and the house settles. Herring bone bridging is much better for running services as well. This method is traditional and was used when the sub floors on houses were T+G boards.
where's the pink foam
You beat me to it ;-)
Masonry nails is cheating! Wooden plugs is true old school!
Not a battery tool in sight he'd already gone cordless😀
You can tell by the cut of his jeans 👖 he knows his stuff
Damn right, I wonder what size chest they are ?
at 4:25 he started attaching the struts in the center where they crossed each other. I haven't seen anyone else do that in any of the other TH-cam channels. Which way is better I wonder.
Completely wrong to nail them together, It stops them doing their job
This is gold
I can remember seeing this at college 😃
Me too mate, not that long ago either, 2005. It looked old then! Hope you're still at it 👍
Still at it mate, it was 2006 for me
This is not the same product shown in preview
This was the most informative video on this topic on the whole of TH-cam. Thank you.
Excellent, well done.
How does a guy remove the pin on a ball-bearing hinge to remove the door for service (example: painting). If you have to unscrew the hinge every time.... it’s going to strip the holes in the door and frame.
@DJ SMeeZy SMuRF I’ve got hollow-core doors inside my home. All of our daily use door hinges wore down after 8 years.... to the point the doors were sitting to low to latch or lock. We held off on replacing them until we painted. I removed the doors and replaced the hinges at the same time. Every hinge needed oversized screws cuz the old ones wouldn’t hold the doors up after being screwed in a second time. I like to do things once so if ball bearing hinges will last 20 years.... I’ll put them in.
@DJ SMeeZy SMuRF that’s exactly what I did actually. Lol. Good ol toothpicks n gorilla glue!
Good video on a lesser practiced method
very poor choice in music, also to loud
Josiah Wilson mute it then, some people!
good luck FINDING them! And once finding them good luck AFFORDING them! I saw one link where it would cost 300 to 400 bucks just for HINGES to do double doors! Insanity!
