Wow man beautiful singing! I loved the end when you sing the snow covered hills and everything kind of comes to a stop and then you finish it out.
Excellent man. I love your songwriting and lyrics! Super cool vibes from that hand pan.
Nice man! It sounds so good! Rocking the Octoberfest. Excited for more clips! 🔥
Like the setup Matthew!! Excellent guitar and vocal volume. I will remove: The Wind and Apus if your going with and audience of 33-55 age group. Also I will keep "Wind Cries Mary", but remove the guitar effects. In my opinion with a clean electric guitar sound is better. Wish you luck. But remember to be humble take it easy and put all your heart on giving the song your own style and life.
Thanks so much Sammy! I agree with the removing guitar effects. Appreciate the reminder on humility and expression. I just posted my second set and would love to hear your feedback there also. Thanks!
Very well played my friend! Keep the covers coming!!🎸
Courage is all Great voice
Such a lovely voice you've got...I like your interpretation of Yusuf's islam song😊
Thanks! Yup I wonder if it is bad form to call the song by Cat Stevens? Haven't quite made that adjustment in my head yet.
@@MJTomayko oh I just call him Yusuf.. my reasoning is that he chose this name so maybe he prefers to be called by it ☺️
I play always in A(4) = 432(000)HZ BECAUSE I KNOW THE MEASUREMENTS OF 432HZ AND 440HZ THÄNK YUH ! FOR THAT BEAUTIFUL SONG
Es tan linda esta cancion, solo tengo agradecimientos MJ, cada que me siento mal vengo aqui y me siento listo para lo que sea que venga. Tengo todo!
merci ❣
why the heck does this only have 4 views?!?! what the frick man, this is the best masterpiece i have come across since Mozart's 17th symphony that I myself witnessed him write in my living room in 1746. we had a few too many whiskeys and then he may have popped his eyeball out but we wont talk about that. anyways, inshallah homies i hope your magical music reaches the masses and especially Ghandi himself. i love you.

great song it was so much fun making it. thanks for doing it.
yes! so fun indeed. awesome how you were helpful in getting the volume of everything right! we will have to make more :D
Amazing, you rock it!
So beautiful!!! Thanks Matthew!! 💛🧡
your music is really unique! the lyrics really spoke to me and reminded me of just how much i sought out healing too because of just how broken i really was inside. at the end of all my searching it was only Jesus that answered all my need for healing. praying for success for your music and God bless!
Thanks so much! I can relate to all the searching and finally realizing the need to step back and let God take the wheel. My mom wrote these lyrics and has an amazing way of writing a clear and potent message. I am filled with gratitude.
The music is interesting, but you should try to quantify the batteries. You should construct the vocal line better, there are many insights but they are a bit chaotic. Maybe alternate moments when the drums play and some when they don't.
Agreed on the vocals being a bit chaotic. It was more stream of consciousness and maybe should be a bit more constructed. What do you mean by quantify the batteries?
I'm here for it! Sounds way better, bro. It doesn't seem like just a large loop. You have a score and structure. Drums provide groove but they don't take up too much space. Vocal melody is great. Big step up! Let's goooo!
Thanks for the positivity! I agree it has more structure. Thanks for your help!
Little to busy more groove more space, keep it up man!
Yes yes more space
All of these sounds can work together with some pretty easy to learn mixing techniques! Really good song idea, just need to throw on some headphones and "organize" where where sounds are by means of eq'ing the right amount of space for each instrument (cutting excess low ends out especially), and just panning stuff around a bit
@@robbiekoffin yes I agree. When I listened in the car definitely the low end seemed too much. One thing I haven’t figured out with the Push yet is how to get all the tracks to record separately into my mixer. I think it’s a pretty big limitation for me right now that all the tracks I make on there I have to try to find one compression that works pretty well for it all and I can’t pan
Thanks so much for your time to give some input! I tried to put it into practice in my 2nd draft. I still think I could do better with panning. Should I have put the drums to one side and the bass to the other?? th-cam.com/video/Na2fFlIp4Pk/w-d-xo.html
you had a good idea. it's a nice format this where you play and then get advice in the comments.
The synth arThe synthesiser doing the arpeggio is either the main thing or it has to move less. There are many instruments that make different rhythms, so the drums must be like Pink Floyd's: simple at best. Charleston in 1/8 and no weird stuff. When you add a melody or an instrument You have to give a structure to the piece, introduction too long. Start with the classic structure intro, verse chorus. Once the classical structure works to the maximum then add solos or other musical things. Alternate between moments when there are many instruments playing with moments when the sound empties out and only one or two instruments remain.
Thanks for the tips! I kept the arpeggio for an intro and then just played chords when I used the sound later in the track to try to not have too many moving parts. I liked your Pink Floyd inspiration - I tried to channel it! I still think I could have done a better job of cutting out some of the sounds when I am singing in my 2nd draft. What do you think? th-cam.com/video/Na2fFlIp4Pk/w-d-xo.html
has a real nine inch nails vibe to it. I think you might wanna start looking into how to create (polyphonic) lead melodies. There's a lot going on in your track, and while that can totally be a vibe, at times it might become just a little too chaotic. By looking into it i mean practice btw. Just keep doing what you're doing and you gonna find yourself improving in no time.
@@Redh0und makes sense. Yes I feel like the ukulele gets a bit lost in the end because of all the other layers being there. I will look for info on polyphonic lead. Do you have any good examples?
@@MJTomayko depending on how far you wanna take it, you could always look into the classics like Bach, who based some entire piano works around it. However where i actually understood it for the first time, was the original Pokemon Soundtracks, which heavily rely on three voice polyphony. But i think thats just because i know all the Tracks in and out :D For a more pronounced approach on strings, you could even look into Jimi Hendrix a bit, who tends to play extra melodies and licks in between vocal lines and what not. I think you just need to figure what works best for you in this particular setting. But always keep the fun playing. Cheers!
@@Redh0und Ha! I love this. Pokémon is a huge part of my childhood. I still use making up ways to have poké battles with kids I teach tennis to :D
I really appreciate your feedback and willingness to come back and clarify! The Pokémon/Hendrix combination had me rolling. I listened back to the Pokémon theme song and was kinda blown away how complex it is. I tried to do a bit of the Hendrix lead guitar between vocals in my 2nd draft: th-cam.com/video/Na2fFlIp4Pk/w-d-xo.html
The vibe is great. Song sounds awesome but my two opinions that could really set this track apart BUT would change the song. 1. Increase the tempo. Great bass line. I can really hear the bassline thriving as the melodic "driver" of the song. I could hear the song almost like a "Feel Good Inc" type song. 2. Find drums with more character. Would advise to stick to kick, hat, snare as your main rythm and only use alt percs like cowbell, etc for accent or fill. The vocal melody is great. Speed up the song and make it groovy. Will sound awesome.
btw, I am not familiar with your musical style, you showed up on my suggestions so if none of my advice works for you then please continue crafting your art in your own sense. Cheers.
@@igotworms Thanks so much for listening! I agree that when I listen back I almost always have feelings about the tempo. This one should be faster! It is funny you bring up Gorillaz. Now that I listen back the vocals totally sound kinda like him :D And yes you are totally right about sticking to kick, hat, and drums. First time I listened back to this I was like oh wow, cowbell stands out so much! Ha. I am curious what you mean about drums with more character without changing which parts of the kit I am using?
@@MJTomayko For starters the kick is only slightly punchy but flat. its almost like a basketball dribble with no tail. would recommend a wider and fatter kick. something to beef up the track. something almost electronic. The hats are very stale and have no soul. Choosing drum sounds can be one of the most difficult task of a track. I would keep this piece simple in regard to structure and instrumentation. As I mentioned before the bass melody should drive this piece. Use the synth accent notes you had at 03:20 for verse. They are gold. Guide this with Great drums and groove. The flat organ style synth at the beginning of the track is nice. Will really add to the darkness of the melody while contrasting with the brightness of an upbeat groove if you decide to take the faster tempo route. The guitar and uke riffage was great but would exclude that if you could string together a nice vocal melody instead. At this pace you'd be writing a alt-pop song and I'm not sure where your influence lays and what direction you would like to run to.
also the overdriven/distorted bass could be a nice touch to really solidify the track late in the score.
Thanks for your thoughtful response and for coming back to add more info! I came up with a pretty heavy kick sound for part of the song and used a pitched down tom for the other part. Not sure if it is traditional enough or if the sounds I chose became a bit too out there. Speeding it up definitely was huge! Let me know what you think: th-cam.com/video/Na2fFlIp4Pk/w-d-xo.html
I'm vibing this. It's funny to hear you mention needing to quantize your drums. If you push it too far it'll sound robotic, where your music seems super soulful and fluid. Look up the video of Questlove talking about Dilla's drums - may be a useful reference. Best feedback I can give is stay honest and make music about something real to you. I can never get into Andrew Huang's stuff because of that. His production chops are amazing but it never feels real.
Thanks for listening James! I agree with you about the robotic thing. It was my hesitation with using quantization at all. On the Push it is cool that you can change the percentage of how much you quantize so that it does not necessarily have to be all the way. I noticed when quantizing drums on this one that one of my notes ended up really far off which means it was actually closer to the wrong beat than the right one. Ha! I know what you mean about the emotionality. I agree that I usually do not end up listening to Andrews tracks after learning about them in the video for this reason although I always learn a lot from the topics he brings up! I think he has found a niche that really works with his talents and it serves him quite well!
Bro you hit the nail on the head. I actually came to the comments to mention that but you beat me to it lolz
Thanks so much for giving me feedback! I tried doing 75% quantization and adding 15% swing to the drums on my 2nd draft. Better? th-cam.com/video/Na2fFlIp4Pk/w-d-xo.html
this is dope
Cool
I've watched some of your videos and you should keep doing what you love! I do have to say though, if you're open for constructive feedback.. maybe look into how you implement quantization in your loops. The drums and some other stuff sounds pretty out of tempo in this song and some others as well. And especially with loops, when everything is stacked upon each other this ''out of temponess'' just increases with each layer you put on. I feel it would drastically improve your sound if you figure out how to use quantization, which gets rid of the imperfections in your timing (especially on the drum parts)
Hey thanks for listening and for the feedback. I think I know what you mean. I have been hesitant to use quantization at all because I want to be a human and not a computer. This track in particular gave me some headaches trying to get things lined up. I tend to play just a little before the grid and then it cuts off my first midi notes in the loop and so I either have to try to shift them a little or move the whole loop over a little and it gets messy quick. Maybe quanitzation would be a better solution. I will give it a try thanks!
@@MJTomayko No problem! And i do understand your point on the whole ''wanting it to feel human'' thing. But.. i hope this is not too harsh, but i don't think your timing is good enough to just wing it. As a drummer myself.. its just hard to listen to this without feeling an almost physical pain at the timing of the drums. Maybe you will realize how far off you are if you take the audio and sync it up to a click track. Having said that, i do think it's something you can get better at with practice and i am only saying this because i think this song (but also some of your other songs) would be so much more enjoyable with good solid timing. Does it have to be perfect? Definitely not. But better than this? I do think that would do wonders for the listening experience. Anyway, it's your music and do what feels good or what you enjoy so don't take this as me telling you off or anything. It's just my honest thoughts. What's most important though: keep enjoying the process and the music that you make
@@Plop-9292 Thank you so much! I really do value the feedback. You are very right. Part of the reason I strayed away from quantization before is that I would try it and then the whole thing would be off. I realize now this means that some of my hits were actually closer to the wrong beat than the right one. Yikes! This happened with two of the notes in tracks I quantized in my new song so I manually nudged them over after quantizing. It also fixed the problem of the first midi note not being included in my loop! Does this sound better to you? Curious any other feedback you may have: th-cam.com/video/FQ7USJjkcaM/w-d-xo.html

I dig this song. Has an eerie atmosphere.
Thanks! Nothin like good ol E Minor to get the eeriness going ;)
Wonderful performance! Very cool 👍👍
Woah trippy bro. I love the slide and the reverb action! You could keep this one rolling even longer. Neat to see how you put together all the layers of instruments. I'm inspired!
Thanks Oliman!
I like your musical production style. Are you recording into the iPad? Maybe you could show us how you set up that sampler.
Hey! I am using the iPad to control a Heath & Allen cq20b which records onto an SD card. The Push 3 is the main man for the looping. Check out my video called “Enjoy the Journey” or “Listen to Your Heart” to see me actually creating loops.
Sounds good Matt! Do you wanna Collab on something?
That would be awesome! Give me an idea of sounds you want and you do the vocals??
