The Hashemites were never on the side of the ummah. They helped the British in ww1, leading the British in Al-Quds and Baghdad instead of the Arabs. And nowadays the Hashemites in Jordan recognize Isnotrael and have worked with the Zionists to down Irani and Arab missiles in their respective air spaces.

The best nation around that time to play as the figurehead of Arabia would be Yemen. They fiercely resisted ottoman expedition campaigns and around the time of the First World War, broke away from all Turkish influence. Also, the Hashemites never were actual direct descendants of the prophet ﷺ, it is what they claimed they were, without any lasting evidence
