This is above genius 🎉❤
No, not above genius. Maybe above your average chicken mama craziness! Ha ha! Thanks!
This is brilliant, and I can't imagine why there would be 13 👎🏻 on this vid.
Where did you get the nipples and dripper housing?
I got the nipples from Columbus Aqua in Denmark. They are by far the best you can buy. I designed the dripper housings and had them manufactured for me.
Raccoon will open that door with eaze and then no chickens!
I disagree. there is no way for a raccoon to get paws around the door. There is molding around the edge that would prevent it from being able to get a paw in and pull it up. But I suppose until I test it with a raccoon, I couldn't know for sure. But we have had a raccoon kill a chicken in the run that wasn't inside when the door closed. It's a long story why it wasn't in the coop, but it's my fault.
Great system, might try this as I'm about to buy wheat anyway. One thing that seems a bit silly is to just dump all that stinky water down the drain, seems like it would be nutritious for your plants in the garden or even to feed chickens.
Yes, I think the water would definitely be good for plants. I wouldn't be comfortable giving it to chickens, as it is pretty stinky. I couldn't get over the "ick" factor.
Love it - and the chicken song! Awesome :) Thanks so much for sharing.
I know, right? I love that chicken song! I'm sure many people find it annoying, but I"m not one of them. 🙂
I just ordered two sets of these, and the drill bit is too big to fit in my drill 😢 I can't buy a new drill! Now I don't know how to fix this 😭
Hey, I got you! I actually have drill bits with a reduced shank, so it will fit inside your drill. Just email me and I'll get your address and get it to you: RevolutionaryChickenStore@gmail.com. I'll send it right away!
All the mice I know drop from the ceiling onto the feeder and then drop down and in from there. This would definitely not be mouse proof in my chicken run. There would be mouse poop and pee in there in a matter of minutes..
I have since upgraded the container of the feeder and added another port. But same basic idea on the feeder port. I've been selling these since 2019, and most feedback that I get is that they work at keeping mice out of the feeder. There have been a few over the years that say mice can get in, but it's very rare. I have a standing offer that if anyone isn't satisfied, they can definitely get a refund. Most people get one and then tell their friends or come back for more.
This was a very good demonstration, with one exception. It is very dangerous to allow your hair to hang loose when using a drill! My brother-in-law got the beard on his neck caught in his drill while working once, & nearly ripped his throat out because he leaned into it & the hair instantly wound if up right to where the skin was beginning to tear. He hadn't set the drill on auto, so thankfully it stopped when he released the trigger! Your hair is beautiful, but please don't risk hurting yourself. Also, a pair of safety glasses (goggles) should have been worn. Those little plastic slivers could have seriously hurt your eyes. Please don't think I'm criticizing you. I know it was just a small job, but everyone should put safety FIRST - even for small jobs! Thank you. PSD
Hey Pamela, you are 100% right. Thank you so much for your comment! I'll make sure to be more careful next time!
Great job 🇺🇸
❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤ I just did this last night and it's fabulous! I only wish you'd sell the kits with more nipples....but I'm setting up 2 more and a small for the banties!
Wonderful! I'm so glad it's working well for you. I sell these on Amazon as well, and the kits come with three nipples instead of two. They are a little more expensive since it's a larger kit. Thank you so much for your feedback!
Can ducks eat out of these?
YES!
Do you have a link where to purchase the nipples?
So ....I did a thing.... Check out my auto chicken watering system! Now I live in the South, so freezing isn't too bad of a thing for me, but insulation would solve that issue. I NEVER have to worry about water. I use the nipples, but turn them down to 45 degrees. th-cam.com/video/0ICacLJtA70/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IReIuWEkpl3h8jsd

Are these UV resistant and can you get them in Australia?
I didn't know the answer, so I googled it. This is what I found: "But how could we throw such high-quality, durable, food grade, BPA-free, HDPE plastic containers away? Luckily there are many creative re-uses for the blue poly drums. BlueBarrel was founded on the principle of keeping as many of these out of the landfill as possible. Their thick, durable side-walls, food-safe plastic, leak-proof and UV resistant qualities make them perfect for harvesting rainwater. Of course there are many other uses for them as well." Unfortunately, these are not available in Australia. I've had a few people request that I ship feeder ports there. I'll be looking into selling the ports on Amazon in Australia.
Hmm, what about WILD mice or rats?? OR, wild birds that like to eat the somethings??
Great questions! I think it can handle wild mice just fine since I have no mice poop in my feeder like I used to (and I've been selling these since 2019). Rats, on the other hand, CAN get into it. I don't make any claims about rats. Birds are mostly deterred by it, but occasionally they can figure it out, so not 100%, but pretty darn close.
Hunger games.. lol They think that climbing that center post it the way to go... that keeps them from getting the idea to just jump to the hole opening.. They take what they think is the sure easy way to the food but it is actually the way to not getting to it. lol. I like it.
Probably! Not sure the psychology behind it, but it works!
Wonder if this will work with cups
Nope. Just the nipples.
Wow!
I have sprouted lots of seeds and I soak the wheat berries for 24 hours, drain, put the jar back in the sunny window; every day, I rinse 2-3 times and drain well. When I see them beginning to sprout, I put them in trays and keep them damp with a spray bottle, no dirt. Once I get green growth, I will carefully pour water into the tray and holding on very well, drain it off once a day. The roots make a mat. This works with sprouting mix, too, but a piece of paper towel in the bottom keeps them wet because they’re so small. Or, you can leave them in the jar with the mesh top, upside down. Rinse at least once a day. I haven’t had good luck with sunflower seeds this way but I keep trying.
You will probably get even better results if you let them soak for 8-10 hours instead of 24. If I forget to drain mine after 8-10 hours, the germination isn't as good. I am now combining black oil sunflower seeds and other grain (I sprout wheat, corn, barley, and sunflower seeds together), and everything sprouts. I don't know why your sunflower seeds wouldn't be sprouting. Try the shorter soak time, and make sure the seeds are fresh. I'm sure your chickens love your efforts!
@@revolutionarychicken6251 Thank you! I will try what you say. The black oil sunflower seeds sprouted but only with dirt.
You may have to use a bit of bleach water so you don’t get bacteria, ect. State food law makes sprout growers for human consumption do this to prevent illness.
I know a lot of people are totally opposed to bleach water--even for chickens. But I've heard that if you use a small enough ratio, it's ok.
One major problem I came across with the watering cups that refill is that if you don’t place it high enough at pecking level, meaning you just set the bucket on the ground, the chickens will put their foot on the cups, and they will pop the spring out. This is a defect in manufacturing That needs to be corrected to prevent this problem. I went through all of mine, because the chickens kept putting their feet on it and supporting their weight while they drank.
Well, in my opinion you MUST put it up high, because the autofill cups get dirty even when it's elevated. I put my waterer on a cinder block, and I've never had a problem with them putting their foot on the cups.
Amazing!
Big rats would easily jump up and get into a hole
You are actually right. That's why I don't claim that they are rodent proof.
Thank you so much miss!
Thank YOU!
Ingenious. I'd like to try it.
I hope you do!
Will these ports work with a metal garbage can? Great idea!
I'm so sorry I didn't reply sooner. No, I don't think they would work on metal. The notches on the feeder ports bend the plastic a bit, then pop into place. Metal would probably be too stiff.
👏I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR SPROUTING SYSTEM,THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!🥰❤
Thank you so much! It really works well.
Sounds like you've got a great system going! I'm sure your ladies love it!
I've done fodder basically the same way, except I use regular sprouting trays that I got real cheap online. I just stacked them on a shelf by my sink so I could empty the top one each day. The others didn't have standing water because the roots soaked it up. They did really well. My jars I just turned upside-down on my kitchen sink (I have a 1930's sink with the ridges in the surface).
Sounds like you have a great system going! I especially like your 1930s sink with ridges on the surface. That would make the initial draining so much easier!
It’s a good idea but I think making their perch wider to a 4” so they can be more stable and have it level out when the door closes instead of angled down and leaning like that. IDK Maybe I worry too much.
When the perch is lowered (all the chickens on it), it's actually parallel with the ground, so it's not angled down. It's angled up before they fly up to it. However, I do think using a 2x4 would be a good idea for colder climates than mine so they could cover their toes when they roost at night. I think 2x4s are generally better than 2x2s for that reason. Thanks for your comment!
Did you know chickens can just eat snow for their water, like all wild birds do... My grandpa said he did it this way for 50 years every winter, when heated water bowls didn't even exist, and it takes 0$ and zero cost to fill a bowl of snow twice a day, and if the power goes out, who cares, its snow. I've been doing this for 3 winters with mine, I use to have a heated bowl but even that would freeze at the top, and they last 1-2 seasons. A bowl of snow is forever.
Marie Antoinette said, "Let them eat cake!" and you say, "Let them eat snow!" Ha ha. I have never heard of this. I'm going to bring it up in a chicken FB group, and I'm sure they'll bite my head off for even bringing it up.
OK, I checked on backyardchickens.com, and this comment seemed to sum up what everyone else had to say: "No. Give them water. Most chickens hate snow and refuse to go near it, let alone eat it for water. It will take a lot of snow to consume the necessary amount of water, as snow has a lot more volume than water, and even if they are willing to peck at it, they won't get as much water out of it as they need just from the occasional pecks. And, like others have said, it will lower their internal temperature and their bodies will need to work extra hard to overcome that. Overall not a good idea. They should always have liquid water available regardless of the weather." I'm not saying you're wrong, but most backyard chicken owners wouldn't go there.
@@revolutionarychicken6251 "Most chickens hate snow and refuse to go near it" I'm in northern Canada and my chickens live in the snow 3/5th of the year, sounds like a Florida person post that doesn't get snow to be honest
You should do a temp test in 4 hour intervals
Thanks for this video!
Do you have any problems with mice getting into the feeder?
No. Just like my other feeder, these are mouse-proof. That said, to be completely honest, out of the hundreds of blue barrel feeders that I've sold, I've had two people tell me that mice got in theirs. So I'd say 99% will not have an issue with mice. For the 1% that do, I have created feeder port covers, so you can cover them at night if you want to.
When will this kit be available on your website??????
My supplier for the silicone just stopped--so I've been hunting for another. I just placed an order for more sample silicone. I will update on when it should arrive. If you have silicone at home, I'm happy to open it up right now for you to order. Otherwise, my guess is a week? 12/10 or 12/11/23.
They are available NOW! 🙂 Sorry for the very long delay!
The plug she was using is call 2" test plug, used when you pressure test a pipe for leaks.
Thank you!
Not opening your link. Can you give me a link amazon or alixpress?
Thank you for thinking of that. I just put links in for Home Depot at Amazon for the 2" plug in the description.
Can I use a heater inside for the winter
Yes, I've had a customer do this before. However, don't use an external heater for the cooler waterer (like the kind that I sell that goes underneath). It will melt the plastic of the cooler. For some reason, it won't melt the plastic of my bucket and barrel waterers though--their plastics' melting point must be higher.
Way to expensive for the blue chicken feeder. Just saying. And couldn't you make a feeder out of a water cooler?? It looks like the same type of container. Anyways, I have no idea how I ended up on this channel but I subscribed cause I do have 2 flocks, about 35 chickens, or so.
Hey Michigan Girl! I'm from Michigan myself! I appreciate your feedback. If you comparison shop for large no waste feeders (mine holds 90 lbs), I think you'll find that Revolutionary Chicken's blue barrel feeder is actually a very good deal. The shipping is free for the customer, although it costs me quite bit to ship the 24"x16"x16" box. But I hear you. I'm always looking for the best deal myself. If you don't mind drilling a hole, you can put the feeder ports in any plastic container. (I sell the ports individually as well as the hole saw bit.)
You actually can't make a feeder out of a water cooler using my ports. They are designed to lock against the wall of a container, and the wall of a cooler is really wide because of their insulated walls.
I love it. Thank you so much for sharing Fantastic invention
Hey thank you!
What's your email? We want to cooperation with you for a try on haul video
Great idea ........ I love it.........Thanks
Thanks!
I made this 15ys ago, but i used bottles of water as the counterbalance so I could fine tune the weight as the hens grew.
That is a great idea! I might try that, as I'm going to be making it a little bigger since I got more chickens.
Clear plastic can decintergrate quicker , maybe next model black or coloured plastic 🎉
Yep! I actually did change my container to a white plastic one, and so far so good. Check it out at Revolutionarychicken.com.
I have about 40 chickens. Putting fodder 8n jars wont work. Id be working on it all day long! All you do is put drain holes in your fodder trays. It drains into the next tray, then the next. The bottom tray is ready for them to eat. This way, you always have grain in 3 stages. With all my chickens, if have to buy stock in a jar factory. No way. Your way is extremely time consuming. Its fine if you have like 4 chickens. But hey, if it works for ya. 😊God bless.
I actually did start with the seeds in trays when I started this process years ago, and the sprouting rate was extremely low. The seeds sprout much better when started in jars. Then I move to trays. Granted, it would not be feasible for 40 chickens. I admit I'm geared more towards small backyard flocks.
You can actually get a 5gal bucket and drill holes on the lid to simulate the jar growing
@@revolutionarychicken6251 you are such a cutie ❤ thank you for showing it to us. Do you have any thoughts on temp range? I am still troubleshooting, but not giving up 👌
Haha, weed - cannabis - edible hemp plant is actually amazing for chickens.
Well thank you! Sounds like you're having a bit of trouble with it. You can also email me questions at Revolutionarychickenstore@gmail.com. I believe that the fodder grew a little faster the warmer it was, but it still grew for me in the winter, and we keep our house pretty chilly (60s). If you grow it outside, it must be kept in the shade.
Dumb
Seems easier to do it in the shower or bath tub or in the garage, then you dont have to worry about dumping water
That's not a bad idea. I think it would be pretty convenient to not have to worry about dumping out the water. But I guess you'd need an expendable bath tub!
