Gone Tropical
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ธ.ค. 2020
Tropical plants, ferns, grasses, palms and lots of dark green, lush, leafy foliage throughout our garden in Neath, South Wales.
With winding, curved pathways which lead you on a journey through a sea of colour. Vibrant, bold, fiery Crocosmia and the scent of blooming flowers.
Hi, I'm Tracey, and my husband is Tony, we love spending time in our Tropical Style Garden. See how we grow in a UK climate. Watch as we plant and enjoy our garden.
We cleared the overgrown 'garden' in 2020. Planting more Tropical Style Plants in 2021.
2024 we removed the last of the lawn to allow for more planting space and built pathways throughout the garden. It is always a working progress and recently we introduced a small Wildlife Pond & a Greenhouse.
We mix the Tropical planting, with Hardy Plants that will withstand the typical "British" weather.
Hope the videos fill you with inspiration for your own garden.

The Simple Method for POTTING UP Larger Plants 🌿🌴🪴

Potting Up simply involves simply shifting a plant - old potting mix and all - up a size, adding a little new potting mix into the bottom and around the sides with little or no disruption to the roots. I will pot up at any time of year although early Spring or late Autumn is favourable. (I avoid mid winter when it's very cold). Join me as I show you the basics as I Pot Up, including placing cro...

The garden is indeed still looking good!
That's so kind, thank you so much for watching, much appreciated, I watch your channel too. Your garden is wonderful ❤️ lots bigger than mine 😁👍🌿🌴
Hi Tracey... Here in Central France, we haven't had a frost yet, but it's coming... My garden is still looking good, too.. We have a LOT of the same plants.. Thanks for your video.. I planted two fatsia japonicas this summer.. I got the green fingers and two spiders. waiting til later in spring to plant, because they are very young. I am overwintering a lot inside the house and some in our guest apartment, unheated.. But, we ordered a greenhouse online, and can't wait to get it in a few months, it will come with a heater and insulation.. I also have a Pheonix Canary palm, which is receiving a lot of great protection planted in the ground.. We'll see how it will fare this spring.. Cheers, Leesa
Lovely to hear from you & Thanks so much for watching. Yes it's been really mild so far but I know the cold weather is coming. You won't look back once you have a greenhouse, you will love it. Ours is unheated but still provides us with a space to put the plants out of the weather. I love the Fatsia, look good all year, they do droop down in the freezing weather, but soon bounce back up again ❤️🌺🌿🌴
Jeez, so much soil for one plant
Cheaper than buying another pot 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and it will soon fill that out with roots, believe me 👍👍 and I also underplant in my pots so I do use the space as I don't like looking at bare earth in the pot ❤️🌴that will be done in the spring most probably ❤️ it's looking much happier already 😉
@@traceyrowlands1220 Isn't it interesting? Whenever I hear someone saying 'believe me' I put on guard.
Well I replanted my Washingtonia lately and you should have seen the roots on that one ..been in the pot for only 2 years ..no need to believe me...the proof was in the video 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@traceyrowlands1220 I think I owe you an apology. I didn't mean to criticize or anything. It is just that I am not into big plants. My biggest pot is 7 incher in diameter. Naturally I don't use as much soil as you. Anyway, everyone is different and I am sure you are doing pretty well your way. Good day!
@samuilc8000 Thank you ❤️ much appreciated and Thanks for watching, much appreciated if I can give you any help at all with the garden, I will try my best ❤️❤️🌴👍🌺🌿 I've only been gardening for 4 years myself so I'm hardly a professional 🤣🤣 it's all a learning curve 👍👍

Aww thank you, it's a shame not to put the pot to use, it's had a few plants in it over the last 3 years. Hopefully it will settle in now ❤️🌴
Good tip on the broken pots stopping the drainage hole from getting blocked. I liked that.
I hope you learnt a new tip ❤️❤️🌴🌿🪴🌺

Even at this time of year your garden is looking fabulous. Mine on the other hand is looking finished for the year(located in Yorkshire)
Thank you, I'm making the most of the weather at the moment. I'm sure the cold will come and I'll be in for a big surprise....I've got my rolls of fleece at the ready...but it's 15 degrees here in the daytime at the moment, but my turn will come 😞😞😞 Thank you so much for watching, much appreciated ❤️👍
I only have 1 Trachy in my border. It was left in my care when the neighbours moved. It was in a very large pot about 2ft high, I kept it watered and it grew a couple of new leaves a year didn’t grow much taller then this year I became interested in tropical plants. I started watering more frequently and used liquid seaweed which improved the colour of the leaves then in July I created my tropical border and it got planted in the ground(with some chicken manure pellets) and has produced 6 new leaves with 2 more waiting! No noticeable height growth that will take time but the stems seem very short, the trunk hasn’t narrowed at the top which I believe impacts on length of stems(?) . Going on holiday tomorrow so just hoping the weather stays mild here till I get back and bring inside the couple of plants that won’t survive outside! 🌴🌺🌹🌸
So it was the Trachycarpus that started it all for you....I think it was the same too for us (and the Cordyline) all kept in pots before... I live in hope for the B&M Trachycarpus. Lovely to hear from you, as always 💕 Have a wonderful time on your holidays...enjoy ❤️❤️🌴🌺

I have so many things in pots that ive been buying this autumn ready for next year, i might plant a few larger specimens to get the ball rolling. Maybe I'll plant my couple of Washingtonia too
The weather is lovely and mild at the moment. It was a fabulous day for planting. Get out there and make a start 👍👍👍🌴🌿🌺
I love a good garden centre, in fact I'm off to mine today. Trouble is I can never come back empty handed!!
@@jennysingleton9243 I know....tell me about it ..I hope you don't spend too much 🤣🤣🤣❤️
My favourite past time. 😅
And mine ❤️
I have quite a few good garden centres close to me one of which is really good for tropical plants and relatively well priced but they are all full of Christmas decorations at the moment! I couldn’t believe the price of the water feature at the beginning of the video! 🌴🌺🌸
I know, almost £1000 for a bowl 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's ridiculous. Lovely indoor section there, and some lovely autumn colours.....but no garden string 🤣🤣🤣🤣 B&M it will be then. I only want to stock up to wrap my bananas at the end of the month ❤️
A trip to B&M always good! 🌴🌺🌸🌹
@daphneking3954 trouble is you go in for a ball of string and spend about £100.....deadly 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️
@ tell me about it! 🌴🌺🌸🌹
Hi Tony🙋.nice to see you .. oh my God everything so expensive Tracy these days .I think lidl are great for plants, they do chuck up the odd bargain ..I use john innes no 3 too , .B&Q normally have it in ❤ to work in a garden centre would be a dream job for me😂
Yes it's gone really pricey, they don't sell John Innes in our B&Q, I do buy some plants from Lidl too, I bought a few of my Bamboos there. I also have a good rummage in the garden centre in the clearance section too. I usually find a bargain and they come lovely the following year. We had a lovely morning today, and I didn't spend too much either 👍👍👍 the pots were quite reasonable, and I wanted one for my Cactus, now I've brought them in from the greenhouse for the winter 👍👍👍❤️
Plenty of choice, local centres to me are half empty and not much choice at all
We are lucky here, we've got a few local to us, and this one I find the best. Even in November when in most there's not much available, there's plenty of colour and choice in this one. The indoor section is also always excellent 👍🌴🌿🌺
My tropical border has a few evergreens in but could do with more! As it’s only 3 months old I’m going to wait and see what it looks like during winter. I’ve decided to leave everything out except my ensete to see how it fares, a couple of pots are going behind the shed where it’s sheltered and my potted dahlias survive there. I will mulch the border when it’s time to (probably when I’m 4000 miles away on holiday) but hey ho! All my other borders (non tropical) have hardly plants in so there will be winter interest all around! I was thrilled to capture on video a hummingbird hawk moth on my salvias last week never seen one before. Nos da 🌴🌺🌱🍃
I've put my Dahlias away now a bit earlier than usual but the flowers were finished for this year. I used to keep the pots in the shed but this year they are in the greenhouse. It's surprising how much wildlife the Salvias bring to the garden. Mine are still flowering and lots of bees....but nothing as spectacular as what yours brought. Plenty to be getting on with in the garden (Tony says I video too much 🤣) but I love making my videos, I find them relaxing to make and edit. Enjoy your garden, good luck with the overwintering ❤️
@ dahlias in the border are still flowering their socks off! I also have loads of bees on the salvias, not many earlier in the year but are about in abundance now when you expect them to be disappearing, strange thing climate change. 🌴🌳🌺🌸
@ ps you don’t video too much

@@traceyrowlands1220 I also brought a roll of loft insulation and when its below freezing for more than 1 week, i wrap the top part of the tree, and stuff the crown with fleece, i don't do anything more, and thankfully all mine have survived, so far!!
That's an excellent idea. I had a very small one in a pot 2 years ago, I looked after it, stuffed it with straw but we had a really cold week where it didn't reach over freezing for over a week and sadly it died.
