Father Christmas returns! This time it’s a few years later on December 23, 1923. John has grown more and so he can read longer letters now. Also he has a little brother named Michael. Father Christmas has taken note and has begun to set up the building blocks for a friendship that will last for years to come. Enjoy!

Last year on Christmas my sister gifted me a book. “Letters to Father Christmas”. Immediately after reading the first page I was taken to a different time and thought what if this was included in “A Bakers Dozen” festival. Here we are a year later. The first three letters are short and sweet but as time goes on the world develops and new characters come into the fold. We look forward to continuing tradition this year and years to come.

To the children of J.R.R Tolkien, the interest and importance of Father Christmas extended beyond his filling of their stockings on Christmas Eve; for he wrote a letter to them every year, in which he described in words and pictures his house, his friends, and the events, hilarious or alarming, at the North Pole. We at the Norris Cultural Arts present, A reimagining of Tolkiens letters to his children. This is December 22, 1920, over 100 years ago. The first appearance of these letters was presented to John, the eldest, at three years old.
