มุมมอง 1.2K9 ปีที่แล้ว
In 1967 Adelaide radio DJ John Vincent had a surprise local hit with "Owyagoin'". A string of novelty songs followed. In the early 70s, to differentiate between his radio & performing personas, Vincent adopted the moniker "Ken Noath", apparently inspired by expletives heard at his concerts. This album, recorded at the Findon Hotel in Adelaide in 1974, was released in 1977 by Nationwide records ...

Thank you!!Been looking for this for a LONG time!!!
Listening to my dad on the saxophone¡¡!!
Thanks Bill I was hoping someone put the naked vicar up on the tube !! So good and still farking funny.
Such a lovely album. Wish it was still available for purchase.......Thanks for posting this.....
I wonder if anyone reading these comments can help me. See text at 14:00 - Jazz Calendar was dedicated to the jazz singer Jean Hart. I have found an entry in the Catalog of Copyright Entries (Third Edition) from 6 Apr 1964 listing Billy's Waltz (I'm assuming this is the same as the theme from the 1963 film of Billy Liar) with music by Richard Rodney Bennett and words by Jeanne Hart. books.google.co.uk/books?id=DzEhAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA884&lpg=PA884&dq=%2B+billy+liar+waltz+%2B+richard+rodney+bennett&source=bl&ots=np1Nww5b_a&sig=ACfU3U3yoiQLuNeV8y6_cKImvTrtX1Pfjg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjt7N2xs9mFAxWdSEEAHRFQBPwQ6AF6BAgXEAM#v=onepage&q=%2B%20billy%20liar%20waltz%20%2B%20richard%20rodney%20bennett&f=false I haven't been able to find any version of Billy's Waltz with lyrics online at all. Jean Hart sang with Richard Rodney Bennett in the 1960s www.imago-images.de/fotos-bilder?suchtext=traverse+bennett+hart+1966&suchselect=&datum1=&datum2=&datumsbereich=01.01.1753&premfil=&ausrichtung=alle&ausrichtung=hoch&ausrichtung=quer&ausrichtung=quadrat&release=alle&thumbsAnzeige=off&aiImagesAnzeige=ohne+ai&fotografen=&gal_start=0&tokenName=YWNftnWyww&tokenValue=goRtoMnSFcCR1nVTZwlw0tq9RZp7R73OpymzE0tbBLefhDUTInYG43AxYzkqZQl7&suchtyp=100&sortEs=0&seite=1 and she is known to have written a few songs during her life. Could she have performed with RRB a version of Billy's Waltz with her own lyrics set to it?
When I grow up I want to be a band nerd.... So cool...!!
In the 1970s I took a several weeks jazz course at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. It was led by a US sax player whose name I long ago forgot. He was a good teacher. To get into the course you had to perform at a rehearsal. Senior jazz guitarist George Golla (born 1935) was the course examiner. There is absolutely no doubt he took pity on me during the rehearsal. I could see it on his face. Hearing and seeing that I was merely a wild teenager who loved jazz, with little to no ability to play, he nonetheless accepted me into the course. I'm forever grateful.
The sax player was probably Howie Smith.
@@billstevens9686Thank you Bill. The photos I see online do resemble the teacher, you are probably right. 🙂 Edit: No you are absolutely right. I just read the Howie Smith page on Wikipedia - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howie_Smith Bill you've provided an invaluable service to Australian culture with your channel's uploads. I've subscribed today.
Fabulous piece of music by my hero rrb,him and Andre Previn made the seventies an exiting time, musically. He gave (rrb)a talk at the midland institute in Birmingham city centre sometime in the seventies or eighties, and i remember him saying how his mother told him that he wrote wonderfully for the oboe, unfortunately can't remember much else of his talk. I think it was around the same time as the first performance of his fantastic piano concerto, which i attended, and have both himself and Steven Bishop, the dedecate.
Brian was ambitious, he was a leader with ideas and an occasional mystical touch, pointed to here in Flight: 'deep inside is absolute freedom'.I remember his harmony classes and his big band conducting, God bless him.
Jimmy Shaw , the drummer on this record, passed away a couple of weeks ago here in Sydney. He was about 96
Thanks for the info.
The bass violin is an electric upright bass
She was only 27 pretty cool
❤
My parents went for a holiday to the Snowy and came back with this 45 r.p.m. for little me. I was 9 in 1965.
It was a wonderful time, playing with Roy. Really loved making the album. It was a "growing" experience. I'm very glad that Roy and I have made contact again. I have lived in Canada for the past 34 years. Hope we get to meet up again.
Frombelgium with all our love for val. What a golden velvet voice
A real gem of a track.
Its Crystal Clear that Val Doonican was a Superb singer and Host🙏👍..Charming and sang with so many stars equally and without any trouble..This world was just a fleeting show for Vals illusion given.... 🙏🙏🙏👍👍.An Irish proverb🙏👍👍👍
I grew up listening to this as a kid 😂thanks for sharing this 👍
Brian was my Uncle and One of Life's Gentlemen. Many thanks for sharing this 🖤
The original Kevin Wilson
Loved his non comedy songs.
Hi Bill, I'm the grandson of Barry Buckley. This is my first time hearing this absolutely stunning LP. Do you know where I can get a hard record of this?
Hi Jake. There's an international buy/sell/collectors site called Discogs. Just checked it. Nothing available ATM but a copy last sold in January. Ebay perhaps. This is one side of the album. The flip was a jazz/rock outfit called Plant. Do you have connections with Ted or Bob? They might be able to help.
Ahh thank you. I thought I'd bought an old 10" LP minus its cover. And for the info.
Can't get the song Janine out o' my head. Think 'bout it all the time. So many excellent songs on this album!
Saw him do Woodstock live at CCAE in Canberra during the seventies. Just like this, only vocals, harmonica and foot stomping. Was great and so different to that other song.
Is there anything Johnny Pearson can't do that is not in extraordinary good taste?
If only Dee Murray released a solo album too. What a great collection solo albums from the three core members of the original, best and only true Elton John band would be.
I love you ♥️🦋🕊
Who was the trumpeter? (Not listed in the personnel)
The Jazzbird Orchestra personnel is shown at 37 minutes into the video.
Thanks Bill,
I was in Don's ensemble at the Conservatorium in 1974. Great teacher. I wrote three of these songs whilst in his ensemble. How luck I was. Thanks Don
Thanks for your comment, Michael. Sounds like a combination of right place, time & talent. I host a long running Jazz program on our local community station & you're featured on an album in our system, "Yes & No" by the Paul Joseph Trio. Good album.
I bought this multi LP set back in the 1980's & have always enjoyed it! Wish it would be re-released on CD.
This was one of the first "original instrument" albums I bought. I saw the ensemble perform when they came to Australia in the 70s. The other 3 sides are also on my channel.

Probably their 2nd best hit after "Life's Been Good To Me". Fabulous SA band. We were there for their farewell gig at Ingle Farm on the green. My wife remember seeing them perform on the mezzanine at John Martins.
great song .. and i think Glancy is actually correct
Thanks for pointing that out. I realized this some time ago but had forgotten that I hadn't updated the post. All good now. Also updated Rick Harrison's info as the original Masters Apprentices are back gigging & he's in the lineup.
excellent performance
This music directly inspired future pop singers like Delta Goodrem and Keith Urban. Congradulations!!!
Can't see the link meself.
This song is so catchy lol
Why do Australian artists like this other than AC/DC get noticed? CW Stoneking? Australian Crawl... damn...you Aussies have a treasure trove of musicians.
Thanks so much for uploading, this brings back memories. My uncle use to play this for me and my brothers... we would be on the floor laughing especially the cricket bit... thanks again
