⚡Coaching is a fundamental leadership skill. Leaders juggle many roles-strategist, problem-solver, and mentor-but coaching is one of the most critical for unlocking full potential.
Lisa explains why, “It's about helping them amplify their strengths to see and navigate blind spots and to hold them accountable for what's possible. And I think what I really have grown to love about coaching is that it's about helping other people build the confidence, gain the tools, create their own resourcefulness to tackle both the problem in front of them, whether it's a challenge with their team or to think more broadly about how do I apply these same principles beyond just my team today and think about my career long-term, to think about my life, my relationships, and my life long-term.”
⚡Build a mindfulness routine to cultivate resilience. Leaders face high-stress moments that require quick, clear thinking. But to navigate those moments effectively, you need to build resilience long before the pressure mounts.
Lisa shares a powerful practice she’s cultivated: “Find your own way and practice it and do it before you need to have it to rely on. So, for me, I wake up every morning. I do not look at my phone. I immediately take a seat, take a breath. I journal, I meditate, and I work out, all before I look at a screen. And for me, that's been a practice something I have to actively think about not reaching for my phone. But it's been really meaningful. And it's allowed me in those moments where stress is high, where I feel dysregulated, to come back to my breath. So, I think my advice would be to build the practice before you need it.”
⚡True leadership starts from within. Effective leadership begins with mastering the inner game. Lisa explains, “I don't think that leaders can handle the complexity outside of themselves until we are able to notice and to empathize and to manage what complexity does inside of us. So, I think maybe in closing, what I would do is just invite leaders to not just focus on the outer game of leadership. I often hear the hard skills versus the soft skills, right? The outer game of leadership being the frameworks, the skills, the tools. But to really invest in developing the inner game of leadership, the ability to regulate, to tune into your emotional landscape, to not just react to what's in front of you, but to know and to lead with your core values. And ultimately, remember that it's the inner game that runs the outer game.”

Here's the Medium article that Doug wrote about 1-1s and is mentioned in the discussion! medium.com/@dougramirez/how-to-conduct-effective-1-on-1s-a-managers-guide-f0d14d4c9057
My belt has moved between different mangement roles, they didn't think I would track them down years later after they abused me, but I did, they are sore and sorry.
True! When I was honest with my boss, he trusted me MORE! I worked under him 17 years. I knew he appreciated the focused desire to do 110% in all my tasks. Now I’m 58 and many young ones work with me. And I notice the ones that are honest. They win my trust!
Enjoyed listening/watching this! Glenn, I love how you explain AI.
This is oversimplifying, to a harmful degree. That's just not how GPTs work. You don't get an "average". In a way you could consider it like that, but an "average" in many dimensions and with plenty of complexity within it. Don't humans really just give an "average" of the opinions of people in their life? Can most humans create anything new, that isn't derivative? He has a point but that's only 1% of what he's actually saying, and the other 99% is going to confuse people. This is not a useful conversation to have, in such casual terms, it misses out so much that's important. The public are already confused by AI, and the media are doing their best to make it seem threatening. If anything, it's exactly as threatening as existing businesses are, and they harm our lives every day just using ordinary human faculties. Landlords threaten you and take your money for nothing, companies rob and abuse you, cartels fix pricing in a supposed "capitalist" "free market" economy that isn't. If anything, AI being intrinsically good, might well help the ordinary person. You *could* make an evil AI, but consider, what would you train it on? Most of everytthing that's ever been committed to writing by humans beings has been good-natured. To train an AI enough to be able to speak the language, you're necessarily exposing it to all sorts of humane and pro-social ideas.
Early on, I conversed with Chap GPT and at that time, it didn't seem to 'know' about Humpty Dumpty the large cannon that fell from its platform and could not be easily pulled from the mire. Chat GPT only knew of the political character.
Really enjoyed this!

🖖🏻 Agreed
seeing on 2023, thanks for sharing your very valuable experiences
Thank you Guillermo!
This is another good discussion. One question that haunts me, how big tech companies make market commitments about product launch and meets it. Say, I-phone launch. That's a question of predictability, right? Any insight, how they do it? Eager to learn.
Blessing of digital age is ability to soak knowledge from numerous source. Thank you brining this discussion and sharing with all. In order to explore further these topics just order the book as well. Looking forward for more such valuable discussions. Thank you!!
Wow, it's really fascinating to see how a business is born and how it grows! For me, it means that as the business grows, the people behind it grow more, bringing experiences in a kind of “multiverse of possibilities” 😅. I realized that with this there is no possibility to choose a specific thing and do just that, because as an entrepreneur you will face many challenges, and solving each challenge gives you more experience (unlocking more challenges and rewards like a challenge tree). Knowing the story behind every fact and decision makes us see the motivation through things! Great episode!
