Akaroa 2011
มุมมอง 9K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Another in a series of videos portraying the annual Akaroa Classic and Traditional Boat Show. This year's event was held after a difficult year for the people of Canterbury, a region in New Zealand that has been plagued with a series of aftershocks following a disastrous 7.2 magnitude earthquake in September 2010. November is springtime in New Zealand, however participants in this year's event ...

Lake Hood Classic Boats
มุมมอง 28K14 ปีที่แล้ว
A glimpse at the second Lake Hood Classic Boat Show. A Sunday drive for most, with boats, picnics and good company thrown in. The day seemed over too quickly, but there was a bar nearby... We didn't really set out to make a video, but ended up putting these shots together. Rather a grey, windless day with strong hints of the onset of Autumn, but we're not ready to put the boat away yet.
Duvauchelle Weekend

Weekend escape to Duvauchelle in Akaroa Harbour. Rainy Friday afternoon in tent made bearable by whitebait for dinner a kiwi delicacy. Saturday offered a great day for a sail.

Otago Rail Trail

We were very lucky with the weather which, up to our setting out, had been very unsettled, so our views might be favourably coloured by this fact, but this 150km bike ride offers peace and quiet in abundance, and is a real "escape to the country". It's not hard to see why the average age of those using the trail is 54. Highly recommended!
Naval Point Open Day

A lazy Saturday in the sun. The local sailing club opened its doors to all and sundry while some coast guard officers delighted the crowd with a safe and informative display of rescue flares. www.navalpoint.co.nz

Lovely little video; two gorgeous boats.
Very nice, was that a GIS with you as well.
Beautiful. Thanks for bringing us along!
Lovely!
So cool to see Tusk doing her thing! We've been lucky to own her since 2016.
These are just great videos.
Lovely to have a good kiwi video, should have many more.
With so many great boats around why the annoying music. Naration about the boats and sound of water, boat and wind when sailing?

Just came across this excellently produced short video. Most of the shots were really interesting, many well framed and captured the essence of the festivities on the day.My question relates to the boat on it's side (on the green hard) at 47 secs. Can anyone please ID with type and/or contact details. Thanks in advance.

I remember those Sea Gull motors. It took 50 pulls to start them. I had a Rude and it started on first pull all the time. But they are antiques and look the part.
Who knows what that boat is at. 2 min 15 sec and where to find the plans ?
+james nichols This little dory is owned by New Zealand Designer and Yachting Olympian, Bret de Thier. www.dethierdesign.com
The white boat at 2 min 15 sec, who knows what she's called and where do I find plans?
+james nichols I'd like a set too - very pretty lines...if you receive a reply on this can you let me know? Peterson.matthew2011@gmail.com
+matthew peterson The closest I found was a "beachcomber-alpha dory" in a book called "building classic small craft" by John Gardner. In the book are full plans and instructions. I hope that helps you out.
+james nichols Thanks James for your reply - I'll try and find a copy of "building classic small craft" by John Gardner.
See you on sea. Beautiful aiguaivent.blogspot.com.es/
Pretty good cous! Especially liked Julia's graduation. x Cousin C.
Cheers
very cool
I must say that your sailing videos are the best videos on youtube...BARENONE!! I also appreciate that you take the time to show other boats and activities on and off the water...outstanding!!
All I know at this stage is that the sail insignia and the boat are unrelated in as much as the sails were "recycled" from another boat. "Sandy" the boats builder/owner is something of a legend in local boatbuilding circles. Someone may want to correct me on this, but I have a hunch that the design of the boat was something of Sandy's own invention based, rather loosely, of a double-ender design he'd seen in an old "Popular Mechanics" magazine.
Great vid...what type of vessel is that with the KZ insignia on the mainsail (double ender)...really sweet!
Bravo...
What a delightfull pleasure to watch your new video ! I'm really glad to see that good life is back and your video eye is still so accurate. Gilles
Wow that really had a 'feel good' thing going on in that video.
8 months between two videos, it's too long. Is the sailing season now open in NZ ? Thanks a lot for this beautiful job (as usual). Special thanks for the celtic music.
These classic boat show presentations is a really good idea , so many very nice boats. I like very much your sailing vews (and your nice cairn terrier...)
A most excellent video of a fine day sharing the sail.
Cheers. Good luck with your build.
Beautiful video, thanks for making it. I'm building a Navigator too, and your video is very inspirational.
I'm sorry your Brother in Law was unimpressed! I'm pleased that you enjoyed my videos all the same. Thanks for your encouragement.
i showed my brother in law (high school video teacher) your video on the classic boat show and he told me that it was not difficult to shoot that.....If that is the case then why in the world is no one else making the quality of video that your making....Best sailing video i have ever seen on youtube and i love your shots of the cockpit....cant wait to see what your going to do next.....Lovely boat ....which more of John Welsfords designs were shot in this format....your the man
Nah mate. No 'pros' here, but I did work for TVNZ in a previous life (as a Graphic Designer) and I'm lucky enough to have worked alongside some VERY clever people there. I guess I picked up a little along the way. I have a little Panasonic Lumix, a tripod, a mac, imovie and a very tolerant wife. Cheers for the encouraging comment. Much appreciated
Excellent clip. Thanks for posting it. I get a real good feel for your Navigator's rig.
Very good production.
Ver talented
Excellent. We couldn't make the day. Cheers Brian
very good Dad
Well Sue Nami should consider taking it off indoors...just looks out of place, unless used for hiding sandwiches.
Great stuff! Angus is a 5 star act as is this video! Love the rockets too.
She's tsunami paranoid.
Excellent 5 star video. Well thought through and if interest. But why does the woman in the sandwich room still have her life jacket on?
