Is this to be the third one flying? I've always loved the Helldiver.
@@BobH-z2w Yes, this one makes three that are now flying.
@@markwarren2830 Fantastic...what if any, markings do you plan to apply? Lots of great one out there.
@@BobH-z2w I believe they are still researching to determine which markings to apply.
Good luck at the airshow!
Where is this aircraft located?
In Colorado Springs at the National Museum of WW II Aviation
I heard something flying overhead a couple of days ago that sounded vintage, but I didn't see what it was. Is it flying now?
I don’t think it has flown just yet as they still had a few things to do, but it should be in the air in the next week or so as the plan is to fly it during the Aug 17-18 Pikes Peak airshow.
Wild how the engine is just “floating” out front like that. Amazing engineering!
Stunning - make it fly!
Info about this Helldiver would be nice. Please provide it. Thank you.
It has been undergoing restoration at Westpac in Colorado Springs for the past 4-5 years. It was painted just a couple weeks ago and they ran the engine for the first time earlier this week. It should be flying at the Pikes Peak airshow Aug 17 and 18.
If that occurs, this will be the third flyable SB2C in the world. The other two are the CAFs that was the only one flying for decades, the second SB2C belongs to Fagenmuseum and just returned to the air after a 17 year restoration.
I know those who flew her hated her, but I have such a spot in my heart for this bird. So many memories of my model-building days!
and that is supposed to interest anyone else how?
@@slowery43 Get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Lots of people have interest in old warbirds because they are model-builders and have researched them to more accurately reproduce them in miniature. If that's not you, fine. Sorry for you that you feel obligated to spread your unhappiness to others around you.
Hello David, Thank you for your comment and informing us of your model building days. Modern day SB2C-4 Helldiver kits by Academy are much better than the Matchbox/Revell/MPCs/Airfix ones we built years ago. I still enjoy building kits to this day. This plane has always fascinated me and it is still great fun to build whether it is a modern or vintage kit. Videos like this are very useful to model builders and offer a wealth of information. Cheers, Monte
@@montehugentobler4614 Thanks, Monte. I’ll have to check that one out. EBay currently has an Accurate Miniatures kit but it’s a prince’s ransom. Have you heard of the iModeler site?
Another one of those folks that drive all over the parking lot trying to find the spot closest to the entrance.😮 😊
... guy at the back is always gunning for a better view of the target !
rare bird that one
Yeah, that’s the unfortunate result of high speed shutter effects in modern digital cameras and phone’s cameras. Too bad they don’t have shutter and frame rate settings that provide more natural appearing videos with fast-moving objects. I mean, they might already, but they’re not easy to configure. I believe all US-made aircraft engines on single-engine aircraft ran in the same direction, clockwise as viewed from the pilot’s seat. This engine is at running speed, matching the sound (probably 1500 or more engine RPM). The high-speed shutter’s “strobe” effect makes it look like the starter is cranking it the wrong direction. In about the last 8 seconds it slows to idle.
Nice. Is she airworthy?
Not quite, but it should fly for the first time very soon.
The way the camera shutter speed was I couldn't mentally coordinate if this was getting cranked for a startup and why was there so much engine noise from somewhere?
Must be and optical illusion, but that propeller looked like it was spinning in the wrong direction.
Are replacement parts still manufactured ??
I think the only replacement parts available were manufactured during their military lifespan. I’m sure aircraft owners buy or trade for parts if and when they become available for their planes, but many parts I’m sure are made when needed.
Where was this at?
This was at the National Museum of WW II Aviation in Colorado Springs.
@@markwarren2830 thank you
Sandy in the back ground ????
You are to underrated
You are underrated my guy.
Change the 33 to a 31, and it would look identical to my grandfathers sister P-38, who flew in Blue Flight of 39th FS with Frank Royal and Lynch.
