It's a clear introductory explanation. Nodes are great for flexibility and organisation but terrible for anyone who is trying to use notes to produce content - which is always in sentences and paragraphs (I dimly remember that the original node PKM, Roam, offered a way of switching bullets off). Tana needs a way to turn bullets into text. Otherwise you are left with a bunch of notes, impeccably organised, but stuck in a form which cannot be used create a finished product.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🎙️ The guest RJ Nestor is a productivity coach and founder of Tana for Tasks and Tarafatas, he shares his journey from a musician to a communication coach and the evolution of his productivity system. 02:10 🚀 RJ Nestor introduces his concept of "action-powered productivity," emphasizing that clear action drives the organization of a system, rather than the other way around. 04:11 🔧 RJ Nestor explains how Tana helped him capture the structure of his workflow and improve his productivity compared to Rome Research and Notion. 09:47 🎛️ RJ Nestor demonstrates the power of buttons and commands in Tana, making task management and organization much more efficient and easier to navigate. 14:43 📈 RJ Nestor showcases the use of queries and buttons to manage tasks based on different horizons (this week, available, and prospective), allowing flexible and agile task scheduling. 19:26 📆 RJ Nestor illustrates the use of AI-powered commands to schedule tasks in Tana, leveraging relative dates to set task due dates efficiently. 21:05 ❌ RJ Nestor uses a simple command to remove references and safely manage abandoned tasks, preserving task data without accidental deletion. 21:16 🔄 RJ Nestor's specialty is capturing recurrence at different levels: task, process, and work templates. This improves efficiency, accuracy, and ease of work. 23:01 📅 Recurring tasks have specific parameters, including recurrence interval (days, weeks, months, or years) and repeat from (scheduled or completed date). 26:57 ♻️ To initialize a recurring task, use a rocket icon after filling the required parameters. It creates a duplicate of the task for the next occurrence. 28:05 🔄 When completing recurring tasks, a duplicate is left behind as a reference for the next recurrence, and the original task is updated to the next scheduled date. 29:26 ➡️ Clicking the "Next recurrence" button moves the task to the next scheduled date while removing the reference from the current recurrence. 32:25 ⚙️ RJ Nestor uses various commands and buttons to automate the process of handling recurring tasks, increasing productivity and reducing friction. 35:11 🗓️ RJ Nestor's agenda is his primary driver, organizing tasks and events. He uses the right sidebar Dock to plan his agenda efficiently. 38:10 ⏰ RJ Nestor uses AI automation for time tracking and logging, integrating it with his agenda for an efficient workflow. 40:18 💡 RJ Nestor's approach emphasizes simplicity and adaptability, using features in ways that suit his preferences and needs. 42:09 📆 RJ Nestor has no strong preference for using the calendar view in task managers, but he appreciates how Tana allows tasks to live within notes and other context, providing a bigger picture of activities and accomplishments. 43:31 📑 RJ Nestor has a weekly accomplishments process that helps him review his log, identify what's working and what's not, and serves as a reminder of the tasks he has accomplished. 44:16 💡 RJ Nestor shares how he finds value in recording accomplishments, as it gives a clearer perspective on the amount of work done and helps him appreciate his productivity. 45:00 🔄 Tana for Tasks 2.0 will be released on May 24th. It includes a template that functions like an app and can be obtained by subscribing to the Action Productivity Pro Community for $9 per month. All updates are included in the subscription. Made with HARPA AI

Hi there - basically, it is three steps: OR: (any of my review tags) NOT LT: Do Date (Parent) NOT GT: Do Date (Parent) These last two basically look at the Do Date of the daily node, and makes sure it lies within the date range (Do Date) of the review tags. The date range for the weekly tags is a specific week, and for the monthly tags it is a month. Hope that's helpful at least, even though it took a while.

I am continuously looking for better tools, and Tana is currently under evaluation. Over the last 25 years I have tried a variety of task management tools and productivity / workflow philosophies, and am therefore heavily indoctrinated by the idea of building the architecture as Adam talks about somewhere in the video. To date my evaluation usually goes towards "Can I adapt my brain and workflow so that this hierarchy keeps me on track almost always, and does it have fringe flexibility for things that really don't fit and therefore annoys me." Having slowly come to the conclusion that my thinking is much more likely to fit with ND, this conversation was awesome from both seeing Adam's way of thinking (which I relate to on quite a number of points) and also reframing my deeply indoctrinated views around fitting my workflow into a complex hierarchy. The super magic part of this video is also the encouragement to build what you need when you need, because it is easy to build. Now I will go out and try it.
