Hi, I'm Richard Hyatt and I'm beekeeper since 2019 when I bought my first 2 bee colonies. Like many beekeepers, I've had successful years and some that have not been so successful. Beekeeping is journey with a long learning curve. This channel has been created to connect with other beekeepers and hopefully enhance their and our beekeeping and learning journeys together.
I might note here, while I started this channel in 2014. I began to start beekeeping in 2019. And in September 2, 2023 I changed the theme in earnest to be about honeybees.

Oxalic Vaporizer Comparison. #honeybees
มุมมอง 37514 วันที่ผ่านมา
There are two types of Oxalic Acid Vaporizer beekeepers generally use. One is a corded wand that heats a bowl to vaporize the Acid. It generally connects to a truck or car battery and sometimes connected to a generator/battery system. This has its limitations because the cord is often too short or just something to trip over. The other is connected directly to an attached battery, usually a Dew...

That's interesting to know 👍
You can also cut leafy branches and lay them across the front to hide it from the robbers
@@rodneymiddleton9624 Like that idea. Tried wet towels a couple times. Didn’t work well but the screens have worked in the past. Maybe I’ll try that next time.

Thanks!
Lay board at 45 degree angle over robbing screen against hive to the ground. Your welcome.
@@badassbees3680 sounds good.
😂Good stuff, smokers can be such a pain some times.👍Time to get the girls ready for Winter bed time, it's getting cool at night here. We are down to the low 40's at night now. Blessed Days...
Yeah, it's getting cooler here.....currently 6C (43F) where I am in the UK, there was still frost on the ground when I took my dog out for a walk a couple of hours ago.
@@LifeinLancashire About the same as you 6 here this morning, too.
And you made a good blooper reel - ha!😁
Inside the house it was 68 degrees so, it felt quite chilly outside. Probably in the low 50s outside.
Wow, look at you in a long sleeve shirt already!
Yes, made a couple. Decided to leave them in instead of spending a lot of time using Premier Pro to edit them out.
🥲
👍
🤣 do the bees not sting inside his mouth?
I don't think they have but, he swallows them pretty fast. I occasionally see him get stung elsewhere on his body, tail or legs or they get in his hair an buzz which does cause him to do a little dance until he gets the bee out of his hair or gets a stinger out of his skin. I get stung now and then and it doesn't bother me much anymore. I've been pretty much immune to bee stings for a while now and I expect he is too.
Hope everything is going good and you made my day.Sir thank you
So nice of you. Things are looking up after a few setbacks in beekeeping. On the bright side I have learned that in beekeeping there will be losses. But, there will also be recoveries.
I had a couple getting robbed.
Yes, I've had robbing for sure. But, I think there were other issues causing it. Not sure what. Pretty discouraged by my losses. These hives seemed to be doing well. Lots of honey and bees. While I was busy extracting honey and doing my other chores, then the rain came and keep me at bay. And, when I was able to check them it was too late.
There's an awful lot more to beekeeping than you think. Interesting video 👍
Yes, there certainly is.
My friend when your cleaning the instavap you do not want it at 440° when cleaning, 200° is plenty warm to clean an flush out , I been using these for yrs the plunger is easier to clean under running warm water an with a small brass brush . Best of luck !!
Good tip, I needed that.
I'm considering a battery-operated vapouriser. They are expensive. I was previously using a Gasvap, but the burner failed. Getting by using just Apivar at the moment. Will eventually have to buy a new vapouriser, I just don't want to spend a lot of money.
If I had to do it over, I think I'd stay with the wand. As long as you only have a few hives and can get to them easily, the wand is great.
I have never used the wands, thanks for the demos.👍
Wands are great for small beekeepers with only a few easily accessible beehives.
Nice! We just got power back on from the hurricane. Thanks!
We didn't lose power but, did lose Internet. Some in our neighborhood did lose power. We got the Internet back last night. Had no idea how bad it was for so many people.
@@richardhyatt-beekeeping There’s no ETA for ours
Frontier told us our Internet would be on at 8:37PM 3 days in a row! 3rd day it came on about 9PM. I was complaining until I saw the news. Felt pretty bad about that after seeing the damage to our Western Carolina town and others. We had our house burn in 2016. It takes a minimum of 5 years to recover and even now we are discovering missing things.

It took a year and one month to get to 950 subs. We put water out in dishes and the birdbath for the bees. They come for it to hydrate the colony. Even in the rain sometimes. The flower were Cocks Comb. Or maybe the Asters. Thanks for the comments.
Good to hear that the storm didn't affect you too much 👍
Yes, we were very lucky. A few trees down nearby but, we didn't lose power. Some of our neighbors did. But, I think everyone is back with power here, now. So many towns we know did not fair so well. We often visit those towns and know how hard hit they were just by looking at the photos.
That's an interesting video 👍
Thank you.
That's quite an expensive startup cost, and no honey until the second year. I've had various hobbies over the years, and like anything else that we do in life, everything has a cost.
So right!
Even though it's not the amount of honey that you were anticipating, I'm sure that you still get that wonderful sense of achievement when gathering in your harvest of liquid gold 👏👏👏👍. Do you have regular customers that purchase your honey each year?
Actually, this is the first year we have had such a large harvest. We do have a few from past years but, it is going to take some marketing to move this, I expect. It's still all got to be put in jars. No small task.
We're getting hammered with rain too!
More on the way. Looks like it's going to go just west of us. I'm been extracting honey so, I haven't gone to check the Little Tennessee River on Otto, NC but, I bet it's almost up to US 441.
Congrats, I bet that feels good a nice amount and your done. Blessed Days...
Yes, not to put it in jars and sell it. Whew, that will take some doing!
Congrats Richard that's a nice bit of honey sir. Funny I have a multi shed some what like your multi room.lol .take care.
Got to do with what you have. Thanks.
Heck, you've got a lot of hives! Being a new subscriber, I've a lot of your videos to catch up on 👍. I don't keep bees myself. A while back, I started watching a young chap who was doing gardening and foraging videos on YT, and after a while, he decided to get some bees. I found his beekeeping journey very interesting to watch. He's done quite well and took part in Alan Titchmarsh gardening gardening programme on television. We never know who may be watching our YT videos!
Checked & it is your channel that I subscribed to 👍
Thank you so much.
Prepare for the ice age 😂
Yes, bee prepared.
Nice to find a fellow artist-beekeepeer. I also keep a dehumidifier running while I'm extracting. The heat it generates assists extraction, by warming the honey.
@@PaulsBees Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm assuming you sell a lot of it?
@@allenreid62 Hope so, 1st year I’ve harvested this much.
I need the bees at my house taken away.. the hive is the size of one of your boxes..
@@willmartin792 I don’t need any more bees. Try your local club. Someone will want them, thanks. Let me know if you don’t find anyone.
I have to use pine-cones, I don't have pine needles here. Thanks for sharing, it looks like it was a nice day. Have a wonderful Sunday, Blessed Days...

Yes, watching the bees gathering pollen is one of the best parts of beekeeping. Did not finish your post? > "...sell about 60 i..."
@richardhyatt-beekeeping sorry I did not we sale about sixty high quality nucleus colonys in early spring
@@ROD_OF_IRON Cool! I hope to sell a lot of nucs myself. And, maybe some complete beehives. I need to cut back on my "bee work load".

I have no desire to be a beekeeper, but I enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks, it's an interesting hobby or business. Lots go surprises.
Congratulations!🎉 ive been watching your bee shorts for a few months, i may never own any myself, but youre the reason i ever had the thought in the first place! Keep up the hardwork, youre the protector of the little ones! 🎊
Thanks I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Subscribed! What is the best way to start beekeeping? And also convincing my wife that I want to keep bees? Thanks in advance!
I would suggest a couple things. Join the local beekeeping club. Read beekeeping books. Beekeeping for Dummies is very helpful and covers the basics. Take a beekeeping class. Now as far as convincing your wife goes...??? Hey, thanks for the comment.
@@richardhyatt-beekeepingthank you!

awesome
It is fun, sometimes. Work other times.
Room to grow! 😂 yahoo!
Room to add honey and sugar syrup actually while the bees get ready for winter. Brood production should slow down soon., But, yes the existing brood will emerge shortly so, there will be more bees to the colony. Thanks.
