Gimmick! Waste of money IMHO. What else could the yarn be used to make?
I think it’s the way you crochet. You yarn over and then you yarn under or something. If you had yarn over every time it would have worked better.
@@charlenerenee7751 I do crochet weird, I know lol! It usually doesn’t affect my finished results too much though but you’re right, that could be it!
They look so stiff.
@@charlenerenee7751 I think it depends on the yarn you choose to use! Mine are structured but not stiff ☺️ they definitely hold their shape though! 🫶
girl you are stronger than me!! for redheart yarns my comfortable hook size is 4mm so i know these types of yarn are simply nottttt for me lol, great video as always <33
@@emmmalorraine ugh I should have known better tbh 😅 I’ve gotten some really great tips so maybe not a total fail lmao thanks girl 🫶🫶
The purple and green one is my favourite. Thank you for this video 😊 I am also a tight crocheter, so I feel you 😅
@@creepycutedesign it’s such a cool color way!! Also haha tight crocheters unite! Thanks for being here! 🫶
Ran into these at Joann's and I was so underwhelmed by the colorways! The all in one granny square skeins had colorways that were really interesting-- I don't crochet, I knit things with these to make the color changes look like fun patterns --but these weren't inspiring ay all! Kinda dull for something named after flowers.
@@morticiax540 oh I didn’t realize they were at Joann! I got mine on the Yarnspirations website! I enjoyed the colorways I could choose from but I bet there were probably limited options at Joann too! Some of them were definitely a bit more boring
That extra yarn will be used to sew the squares together. I don’t understand your complaint.
@@ingridbortner1025 that’s fair, I just felt like it was way more than I would need but I could see for a blanket or something you may need all the yarn
As someone who loathes weaving in ends, i like the concept behind the all in one yarns red heart is doing with these and the flower motifs look really cute, but i also prefer my granny square making experience to be brain off hands on, and at least with the og granny square one it was a pain to try and manage my tension (i'm also relatively new to crochet and i'm also still trying to get my tension management down in general so that didnt help things lol) However if you knit at all, the way the color changes in the skein works really well for entrelac patterns, (I think there's also a way to do entrelac with crochet as well but odk for sure)
@@Kayari oh that’s so interesting! Entrelac knitting is so gorgeous, I never considered using this yarn for knitting at all 🤔
❤❤❤❤🧶🧶🧶🧶👍🏾
@@Shettikka-s9v 🫶😁😁 thanks for being here!
I would like to try it. It does look frustrating like the granny square yarn though.
@@jayneholcomb4076 you definitely get the hang of it but not going to lie, it took me a few tries 😅
I totally agree with you. The yarn is way too expensive and the left over is too much. With a little alteration, they can make it so you could make 14 or 15 squares and not have so much left. I’d be interested to see how many squares you could make just with the leftovers, even though they would be only one color.
@@pammyers1982 that’s a great idea!! Maybe I’ll take apart the few squares I have of the green color way I like and try that!
@ That’s great! Can’t wait to see how it works out. 💜💜
The one problem with this is it’s so stiff .. I love the concept so much and I love doing it, but the block turned out so stiff. I’m waiting for a lighter softer yarn with this idea
@@s.a.m1959 oh that’s so interesting! I found mine to be quite floppy 🫠 maybe we can combine ours and get the perfect square 😅
Red beard has a finish that makes it stiffer but it washes off…
I find the yarn very soft and fluffy
Perhaps using a bigger hook would help, they probably would loosen then and wouldn't be stiff anymore? I used a 7mm hook but with my tighter tension that's like using a 5.5mm or 6mm, so the stitches still looked fine and not gappy.
I'm also a tighter crocheter so I get your dilemma! I ended up using a 7mm hook and still had extra yarn after doing the petals, so I ended up deciding to just cut the yarn, gasp, I know, but when I realised like you that I didn't like the look of it being too loose I figured I'd rather have the stitches look more closer to my tension in order for the petals not to be too gappy, so knowing that meant only two more ends to weave in I thought that would be ok and preferable overall. I also made some modifications because I don't like my squares looking too gappy throughout, especially in the corners, so I did only 1 chain in the corners which gave them better structure, and when doing the third round I worked into the back and third stitch to make the petals more pronounced, as well as giving them a nice curve instead of that hairy look from the other colour going into the top of the petals, looked much nicer that way! I recommend watching Mikey from the crochet crowd channel, he did a really good tutorial to show how to do the stitches for each round and I found that really easy to follow, just for anyone who needs/wants a visual to make it easier. :)
@@alwayslearning9272 oh these are such helpful tips!! I didn’t even think to work into the third stitch for the petals! I bet that looks so clean 🤩 good to know there’s a video tutorial for the pattern out there too! I’m not sure if it’s just me but I definitely had to read the pattern a few times to understand it, I think it’s the way it’s written so it can fit on the packaging ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've thought about trying both this and the granny square type... seen countless videos of people fighting the tension to get it perfect.... I thought the same thing... I'd just cut it. lol
Yes, definitely working into the second and third loop makes the whole petal much cleaner looking, I got that idea from a different video in the comments section and it made such a big difference! Like how you made your 🤷🏻♀️ below in your comment, very clever, do you have a knack for drawing also? I had a thought that with all your extra left over yarn, once you've used several different skeins from the different colour ways you could make regular granny squares with all the different colours, and then combine all the squares together for a bag or blanket??
@@alwayslearning9272 I’ve been known to partake in drawing and painting, but I’m definitely out of practice!! Would love to start doing it regularly again! And oh my gosh that is SUCH a good idea to use the scraps to make regular granny squares!! Love that!
So glad you liked my suggestion for regular granny squares with the leftover yarn, sort of circling back to how they originally were made from scrap yarn that people didn't want to see go to waste, and you already know they're going to match well as they will be made from the same yarn! I could straight away see a bag with a combination of the flower power yarn and standard granny squares, think it would look great, or even a scarf or headband! 😃
I have been WAITING for someone to review this!!!!
@@meaganlunsford3784 the wait is OVER!! 🫡😂
I think if you use them as a bag the liner showing will still be cute, find a color that compliments the color way.
@@missyrichert1015 that’s a great point!! Maybe I didn’t want to admit that I’m horrible at sewing… 😅😂
Thank you for testing this! I noticed by the picture on the front of the label that it looks like a rather “holey” square which l don’t care for but I’m holding out hope that sometime soon someone will modify and post their own pattern using this yarn. I noticed this happened with the other all in one and I liked them better than the included one. I’m 56 yo and never ever heard “flabbered my gasted” and can not stop cracking up!!! Genius 😂 beautiful cat you have as well! Thanks again, new subscriber 😊
@@christinemcclester2695 yes, I agree!! Perhaps I’ll try out a different pattern, if I do, I’ll definitely share!! Also hahaha I’m glad I could entertain 😂 Lucy the cat says thank you! Thank you for being here 🫶🫶
You could use the darker blue to stitch the blocks together,
@@deniseduenas6304 yes, I think that’s what the super long tail is meant for as well! It’s definitely nice to have the safety net of extra yarn, that’s for sure! ☺️
So I have pretty similar complaints about this yarn that you do since I also have super loose tension. If you enjoyed the pattern, you will enjoy the original granny square all in one yarn. For me to like both the original and this one, I kinda ended up following the pattern but making modifications that suit my preferences. For example I normally like to start with a magic ring and I chain 2 at the corners to make it tighter. Also on the last round, since you are a tighter crocheter you can probably do that last round as a solid granny which might help with the look of a tighter square. It will also have less wasted yarn as well.
@@snailworkscrochet that’s a great idea!! Maybe I’ll try tweaking the pattern a bit and see if I like it more 🤔☺️
Hi Killian, I got some of the flower power the other day but haven’t used it yet. I heard Red Heart added so much of the last color because people complained they didn’t have enough to join. Since your a tight crocheter, you can do your normal tension with hook it calls for, and add an extra dc to each flower petal and maybe slip stick around until you get to end of the color to start your new color. I also got the green and purple. 🧶🧶🥰
@@tracylg13 oh that’s a smart idea! I understand it’s better to have too much leftover than not enough, so I suppose I can’t complain too much!! Let me know how you like it! The green and purple color way was my favorite 🤗
I haven't seen this yarn yet, but I'm definitely gonna have to get a skein or two to test out! I'm thinking a scarf or maybe a flower power balaclava?
