    Their greatest Medley. In the cage - Cinema show - In that quiet earth - Slippermen - Afterglow Noticed that the video image is reversed. Daryl and Mike aren't left- handed 😅 only Phil is.

    Peter Gabriel ,lead singer and Steve Hackett,lead guitarist are no longer with the group................might just want to double back and listen to the original album from 1974 with ALL members present...just sayin' :)

    I don't even recognize it as a medley anymore. After Peter and especially Steve left the band, the magic was gone for me. There was a lack of an equal guitarist to break through the TB Key soundscape, so TB was uninhibited and dominantly poppy, which is clearly visible in the version. In The Cage is fantastic in its original form, part of a concept album, a masterpiece. All the best✌.

    Having seen the band live many times the 'Old Medleys' were always the highlights of the live shows from the 80s onwards, as of course the band played a lot of their new stuff, and having such a huge catalogue they had to choose what to do. All of us would rather hear old songs entire, but even so these medleys were superb. Whether it was this 'Cage' medley from 1984, or the ones from 1992 or 2007 with slight variations in which songs were included, they still were superb. Afterglow was always the jewel in the crown with a stunning crescendo and outro with Phil going back on the drums with Chester, such melodic awesome power. If you can check out the 2007 Old Medley of In The Cage/Cinema Show/ Duke's Travels and Afterglow, I saw that 2007 show in Amsterdam and London, and it was visually superb with massive LED screen, but it was an awesome sound. BTW Steve Hackett left the band in late 1977, Daryl Stuermer was the guitarist on the live shows, and Chester Thompson was the touring drummer, both very much part of the live band from 1977 onwards.

    Their concerts were epic. I saw them live in 1978 and the lights with the music were incredible. That heavy section that reminded you of Led Zeppelin was spot on. I believe Phil said it was inspired by 'Kashmir'. (he and Robert Plant were great friends) This medley uses parts of various songs. 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' is my favorite prog album and worth exploring. Nice show.

    Genesis was the opposite of the rock/drug scene. They all had wives and kids by this time and no drugs (except for pot, of course). Such a tight band. Practice, practice, practice!

    No Steve Hackett in this one. He left in 1977. The drummer is Chester Thompson who has played with Genesis and Phil Collins for decades. Chester played with Frank Zappa and Weather Report, two amazing jazz/fusion bands who played extremely difficult music. Thompson has the chops!

    If you liked the "Metal" part (In that quiet Earth) listen to the studio version, it's a mini-epic with three parts: Unquiet Slumbers for the sleepers / In that quiet Earth / Afterglow. The music segues into each other section and should be listened together for maximum effect.

    Last comment, hopefully 😂 Im so glad you were able to do the whole performance!! It wouldn't have been the same without Afterglow 🎉🎉🎉❤❤ In case you werent sure, it was a medley: In the Cage The Cinema Show In that Quiet Earth ( the metal part ) The Colony of Slipperman Afterglow ( check the chapters on the video ) And, yes, they generally did a new medley for each tour... When Phil put the Jacket on, that was Rael.. Another great reaction!!! Very astute as always ❤ Live Wembley 1987 next🎉🎉 Mama ABACAB Domimo Home by the Sea

    They all spoke about their 3 egos. Very different ppl willing and wanting to create something fairly unique. They were not buddies away from the stage. But sometime holidayed together with families? I’m just guessing but as a female fan of the time younger than them I think they played down the sex n drugs. Carl being the ‘clean’ one. Greg enjoyed cigarettes and Keith became a big drinker. I would never judge them. Everyone smoked and ppl with money drank spirits. I would imagine there were girls here and there but they all had families early in their lives and probably managed to keep anything under the radar. Keith eventually left his wife after he met a Japanese girl called Mari. I think Carl was married a few times and Greg married and had a daughter. That’s just after reading about them for 50 years!

    I’m so old I saw them when I was about your age. They were incredible. Stood right below Greg Lake, bass, vox, guitar. They were so exciting! All sorts of stuff with Keith Emerson playing Bach on the organ sitting on top of it , then pulling it over onto him, he couldn’t get sustain on the massive Moog so Lemmy, yes that Lemmy, who was their roadie gave him knives, gossip goes from WW2 and Keith stuck them between keys, sounds great. You have a lot to check out young man. They changed my generation. Hope you grow to love them as we did. 3 musos basically. Geniuses all 3. Watch all their early vids please!

    In 1978, Hackett was out of the band too. For the studio recordings, Mike Rutherford assumed the guitars too. In live performances, all Hackett parts were played by other great musician: Daryl Stuermer. The 'news" Rutherford guitars were usually played live by himself, and the bass was played by Stuermer. In fact, for live perfomances, both Stuermer and Rutherfod played bass and guitar.

    This is an unusual live performance as Eddie Jobson was only with them for the 1 album ('A') +tour - so you get the violin parts by him and they were only a 4 piece band now. This tour was after a new line up (drummer - Mark Craney, keyboard/violin - Eddie Jobson, but electric guitar is still Martin Barre).

    When you do their songs that were written in the 90’s you should choose live performances that were done in the 90’s. They sound better vocally. All their performances sound better vocally when you play them in the same decade in which they were written. Maynard is almost 30 years older in this performance than when he wrote it. Just a suggestion ✌️

    I was born in 1985. I find it very odd and funny that your generation has an opportunity to make money while discovering music I’ve known about for decades for the first time. You can make a career out of this. When I was growing up and I didn’t know an artist my dad would play for me, he’d just tell me to “You need to open your mind and explore a little more!” Or he’d just be like “WTF!?? How do you not know this song!? Am I not raising you right!? Here I’ll get you some CD’s and albums to listen too.” And I did. Where’s my career!? Lol. Where’s my money for the hours I spent listening to my dads records!? Just being facetious here and just joking…but there is a part of me when I see these vids to be like “WTF!??”

    • @SattzFF

    Barriemore Barlow, Tull's drummer from 1971 to 1980, is one of my favorite drummers of all time. Another is Procol Harum's BJ Wilson. Both highly unique. Clive Bunker, also an excellent drummer, played the earliest Tull albums 1968 to 1971's Aqualung, and was also excellent though more restrained.

  • @erictownsend8870
    @erictownsend8870 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    So many questions! Aqualung is from 1971. Their best lineup of the band IMHO was 1971 to 1978. The keyboards and drummer are new here. Ian Anderson runs a tight ship and he selects band members, and directs all. Ian Anderson is still recording and touring with his current band (some for 20 years), releasing Jethro Tull albums in 2023 and 2024. Another is due out soon. My wife and I saw Jethro Tull summer of 2023 live near Chicago, I have personally seen Jethro Tull live at least 15 times since 1973. Ian lost his voice quality around early 1980's and his singing isn't the greatest live, but his flute cannot be beat! He still sounds good on studio albums since then, however.

  • @erikahlander3489
    @erikahlander3489 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You will get even more problems to categorize to genre when you reach Gentle giant, most of Zappa's music, well actually much music which sticks out. And so far you have (almost) not reached Tull's golden years 1972-1978. Or the early treasures like "Bouree" and "Dharma for one". This is a late live version from the early 80s (= 10 y later) but according to Martin Barre, on the album, he arranged the guitar solo based on the verse of the song, partly improvised. There is an interview with him on YT. It is when they recorded the solo, one take, that Jimi Page of Led Zeppelin enter the control room, waving to Martin, and he had to turn around, to be able to concentrate - and that iconic solo was accepted for the album. You should check Martin Barre's Jethro Tull doing Aqualung, last July (Great South Bay Music Festival). He just became 78!

    The "A" symbol was the title of the album which this particular tour was based on. Originally it was supposed to be an Ian Anderson ("A" for Anderson) solo album but that never came to pass. The white jumpsuits were worn by the band members on the cover of that album. A shift in the Tull music was evident on this album but for me it was still unique and excellent.
