Why are you flying a Jolly Roger.
Try losing the flag when going into strong head wind. You may find improvement in handling.
@@montyspearo good idea, I will try that!!! :)
Hi sir. You said, this motor can lay down on three sides. But the owners manuel says "Raise the tiller handle and rest the motor on a case protector with the port side down" on 45 th page. Maybe the manual I read is for the old models. You ll made me very happy , if you could give me information about it . Thank"s a lot 😊🙋♀
Best advice would be to follow your manual, I have learned that throttle side down and should have tabs to protect it from getting scratched.
I also noticed on my Suzuki 15 hp that it has those same protective tabs on the rear and opposite side however I only lay it down throttle side. If you find out it can be used on three sides let me know as it looks like you can.
Let me know when its for sale
ok will do!!!!
Dude, we still have nightmares of bottom paint! Awesome rusults, and yes, that is ablative paint. The power washer got a lot of the ablative paint off on our boat. The flaking barrier paint is what we spent so much time sanding.
oh yea thats right!!! Man I am so glad this boat doesn't have barrier paint on it....
@deckswateradventures9201 epoxy paint sucks!
Great video! Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun fixing that gelcoat.
@@ChrisDoesWhat yup and also cleaning off the anti fouling also!!!
@deckswateradventures9201 you got this man! 💪
Great video! Seems like you were more hyper at the end. Was it the fumes? LOL 😂
Might have been, or could have been I was almost done. These decals take lots of time to remove!!!
@deckswateradventures9201 I agree, great job!
I went to use my 380S today for the first time, put the wheels on, then my 8hp Merc. Started wheeling it to the water (15ft away) and the transom bar bent where the wheel attaches on one side, then a few feet later the other side bent. The sand was a bit soft but I’m shocked this happened. It’s rated for up to a 20hp motor and that lower transom bar just folded inwards… is there a heavy duty version of the transom bars? These clearly have the attachment for the wheels so I assume they’re rated for the weight…
Yes, Reach out to any Takacat dealer. The heavy version is what I use also and its much stronger!!! let me know if you need help finding it.
Awesome man! Can't wait to see what you do.
Thank you
Are you going to hire free help?
I can always use free help!!!
can't wait to see how it turns out. notifications set!!👍
Thank you, me2
Do you take a backup motor with you?
nope, however I do keep each paddle left and right with me.... So far the Suzuki has never left me stranded nor did my 6hp tohatsu.
Did you ever end up going camping? You mentioned a floating dock, you just throw a tent on it and sleep on the water?
I have been slowly buying camping gear so I can do a camping series this fall. I think I am about ready to start the series just gearing up!!!
Nice videos, bought a 380LX because of your videos
That's awesome, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do!!! The portability just rocks!!!
I have the 20 hp and it splashes just like that too…thanks for your video, keep doing them, cheers
I did notice, when I put more weight in the front of the takacat the splashes is greatly reduced.
curious what kind of trailer it's sitting on - and do you transport it via trailer and if so, how do you support the engine?
I have been just using a jetski trailer with it, not optimal but it works pretty well!!!
Like the fact that you show all your safety equipment PFD whistle, Extinguisher (AND PRUDENT OPERATION..!!! Thank you
thank you, I think that is the most important thing to consider when boating.....
Thanks for all your informative reviews! I've had a Takacat 380LX since 2021 and it has been exceptional I previously used Zodiac and Achilles boats but the catamaran hull design allows planing at about 7 mph or a little less, which is remarkably efficient compared to my prior boats. I have a tohatsu 6hp four stroke (57lbs) and a Yamaha 15 hp 2 stroke (85lbs). I'm able to plane with 2 onboard with the 6hp to about 12mph- (I'm only 140 lbs), alone I reach 14mph, but this is likely due to insufficient prop pitch as I reach max rpm at mid throttle- I'll be trying a 9" pitch prop soon for when I go alone as the light weight makes it effortless to put on and pull off. With the Yamaha, I reach 22mph alone and 16 to 18 with up to 4 onboard. I may try to get a tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke as a better 2 person alternative.
thats very cool, I thought about trying different props just haven't gotten to it yet. I do miss my 6hp and may buy another one in the future.
did you customize your transom? mine didn't come with that diamond plate
nope, believe it or not that's how they used to come. The new 340 i just got doesn't have it either. Shame as it was nice having.
Been watching all of your takacat videos. Just bought a 380lx. Was initially thinking a 6Hp but at 95 pound the Tohatsu 20 seems like an option I will go with using in Florida keys. Thx!
Great combo, just watch the wheel kit if you plan on wheeling it around. Love the Tohatsu motors, they always seem to start first or second pull!!!! Enjoy it, best adventure portable boat I have ever owned!!!! post up some pictures!!!
We were there that day, but I never saw yall.
We were in the middle near the no boat lanes!!!! What a awesome place wish we could have met ye!!!
I know I looking for yall
Great video! Our 6.5 is great unless we want to get somewhere. 2 miles on Danielle's birthday to get to an island was exhausting.
yea, I figured out the back splash and I am now able to get the takacat to plane out with the 15hp... loving it
My man keep up the videos this looks like a heck of a time on water
Thank you!!! We have some more coming out and trying to get back in the the hang of it!!!
I like the umbrella on the jet ski, cool 😎
Thank you, was nice to have!!!
Looks like you are enjoying yourself, and drink a cold water for us! 🙄🤔🤪
I was and yes I drank a few for you!!
Hi - how do you like the 6hp on that boat? I have a custom built one from the mfg coming and trying to decide on a motor. Been debating a 9.8,9.9 or a 20hp. If the 6hp works, maybe the 9.8 is plenty. I had a 15 footer made in HD material for Alaska waters to go out in the shallow bays and rivers so it's a little heavier than a 420lx but not that different from a 460lx.
I would go 9.8 if possible!!!
I'll be buying new from the dealer so I can choose any size and the prices are close enough that I don't mind jumping up to as big as 20hp. Since the 9.9, 15, and 20hp are all the same motor it seems like the choice is between 9.8 that's about 20lbs lighter and 20hp that's heavier but has extra power if I ever really need it. If the 9.8 will be enough though I'd rather have the lighter weight. The $600ish savings is nice too. I'd just hate to get out in a tide current or wind and not have enough power. I'm in Alaska and we get 30 foot tide changes every day and the current can be as high at 5kts in the inlets. But your boat looks like it did great with 6hp.
@@MrJcjet wait your talking about the 420lx I would go 20hp if portability isn’t and issue since 20hp motors are heavy. I used the 6hp BC it was light and easy to transport. I now use a new 15hp Suzuki on my 420lx.
@@deckswateradventures9201Yes. Mine is a 4.5 meter version with slightly bigger 50mm side tubes than the takacat model. I had it made direct from the mfg and shipped to me to be a little more heavy weather ready because the Alaska waters are so cold and remote that a failure can be legitimately life threatening I'll also use it with a rowing frame on the big rivers here like a cataraft. I think it'll be an excellent dual purpose boat for exploring fjords on calm days, salmon fishing along the coastal areas, and floating the rivers. Just need a motor at this point. I think I'll probably go for the 20hp and deal with the extra weight. Do you feel like the transom is okay with that weight on it? That's one of my concerns - can the boat handle the force on the tubular style transom? It's a new design to me that I've never had before. I've found your videos really helpful!!
Cavitation problem?😮
I felt like the 15hp was too much for it. Maybe a 9 or 6hp would have been better
Got videos of the 340 or 420 with the 15hp
not yet, I will tell you when I took it out with the 15hp, it felt a little over powered. It felt light in the front and when trying to get up to plane and was hard to handle. I will try and take it out this next weekend and do a video for you.
Where's the water skier?😮
LOL that motor was way overkill and probably could have pulled one!!!
Brucette got her.
Sorry we couldn't make it. It looks like a great boat show! Know yall had an awesome time.
Yes it was! and no worries, will see you soon!!!

Any comments on how difficult it is to wrangle the 15hp motor? I’m looking at the same jump from the 6hp to a 9.9 or 15 for my Takacat 340S.
I would stick with 9.9 or less for the 340. The 15 works however I have to use a motor cart and also seems the HP is a little much for the 340
Hey gang!!
Hello
Nice'n Yammy? ;)
its for sale from what I hear!!!
Look forward to them adventures!
Looks like you had some adventures on your mast!!!
Just discovered your videos and have enjoyed your reviews on Takacats. BTW, I am a Takacat dealer in North Myrtle Beach.
Ah glad you enjoyed them, I enjoy my takacats and everything they bring to the table.. Always looking for a new adventure on them.
Hey Bernard, let me know if you would like to calibrate or looking for video's to help you with takacats!!! Check out some of mine on BobJohnsoncity.com!!!
Being close to the water, is the absolute best part of an inflatable. Makes up for them being fragile etc.
When its a portable, you can also take it anywhere to use it!!! That's once of my favorite aspects!!!
My Takacat is rusting! The transom tubes of the open transom are made of stainless steel 304 (V2A) (also for cost reasons). The pipes show ugly rust after a short time in a salt water environment. From my point of view, the maintenance is very time-consuming and is not reasonable for me. Unfortunately, I only found out about this disadvantage of the high maintenance effort after the purchase. For me, this product is not recommended for salt water environments. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the Takacat 340 LS for the above reasons. It does not meet my expectations and, in my opinion, is only partially suitable for my application as a full time yacht tender. I quote from Takacat's care instructions: 1. A first care step when driving in salt water is washing the transom tubes at the end of a trip with fresh water (fresh water) including thorough drying. 2. The insides of the transom tubes can be pulled through with an extra-long bottle brush. 3. If corrosion has formed, it can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner. 4. If you drive permanently in salt water, it is advisable to spray the transom tubes and optional slip wheels with a seawater-resistant stainless steel protector. Did you experience similar issues? Best regards Xaver
No I dont have this issue as with anything in salt water, it will corrode fast. I use a Xps Anti-Corrosive Multipurpose Lubricant anytime I put any of my boats, jetskis or paddle boards in salt water. If you google it you can find it online and it works well for me. I know there are many of types of sprays you can purchase to help with preventing corrosion. I have seen this with sailboats, powerboats and many of style of boats when running consistently in salt water. Best practice on any boat is to use Saltaway wash after every use. Even my big boats have started to rust on parts when in salt water when I didn't use a saltaway wash. You can google that also and find many of options. The key to fighting corrosion with salt water is preparing for it and cleaning it afterwards. hope this helps. Ping me if you need anymore information.
Hey ? Are the valves interchangeable with the different model talkiecats
Yes, they are interchangeable.
Awesome haul!
Thank you!! 😊
Hey Deck, really appreciate your videos. Like you, I’m no spring chicken (70) who appreciates the beauty of simple and easy after years of launching, cleaning, repairing a large boat. I have an old Tohatsu 5 hp 2 stroke. Will that adequately power the 300 series TacaCat with (primarily) 2 adults and some gear? I noticed that ur new 6 hp was insufficient for ur needs while powering your 420 and hesitate to buy a 420 if I’ll be forced the fight the added weight of a larger engine. Also, will the 300 series accommodate a sun canopy? One more Q: have u found a way to get some back support while operating the TacaCat? You seem like a man with the vigor and excitement of boy. Don’t lose that!
Donald, thank you for your questions. I think a 5 to 8 hp is perfect for the 300 series. I notice with my 15hp on the 340lx that it was to much hp with just one person on it and perfect with two. I wish I had kept the 6hp however I sold it. Lets talk about the back rest, boy do I wish there was a way to have a back rest cause after an hour or so riding around my back does get very tired and I have found no options for it. I am looking at some idea's to add a PVC rail sliding kit to it so I can add a aluminum bench seat however that's in R&D right now and just toying with the idea. Finally, about the sun Canopy, yes on amazon you can order a Sun Canopy that glues down, I actually ordered one but ended up using it on my aluminum boat instead. here is a link to the one I ordered and comes with hardware to glue down to the boat. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MW4T8Z9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Hope this helps, let me know if you have anymore questions as I love my takacat. if you looking to purchase a takacat please hit up www.bobjohnsoncity.com/ and tell them I sent you as they may give you a discount!!
Just off the cuff, what about a marine bean bag chair? @@deckswateradventures9201
Hey Rick, that's actually a great idea. never thought of that and boy would that be comfortable!!! @@rickbrauer6794
Have you taken a look at the sport models? I understand they're wider inside. I was just wondering why you went with the lx models versus the sport models. I'm seriously considering purchasing, but having a hard time deciding.
I really enjoy the LX models for the weight, portability and ease of unloading from the front and getting back in the boat even thought the sport model has a tapered front, I like the ease of getting back in the boat. I use it like a golf cart on the water for swimming, fishing and just adventuring. Also makes it easy to just walk off when beaching. Talk to Monica at Bob Johnson City boats (678-238-2621) and she can give you great information around both models. They really helped me on mine and determine how I was going to use the boat. Great people!!!
pretty high winds is how high for you? for us in california 6ft tides and 6ft swells considered, pretty high waves for inflatables, but 6ft swells should be doable for inflatable, i tested saturn in 6ft tides and it did just fine, your taka cat should be tested in ocean, not in rivers. You showed us nothing friend.
Winds were around 15 to 20 knots however the waves were around 2 to 3 ft which is substantially different then the ocean. Lake waves run in shorter intervals making them a little more exciting. I will try and catch some good footage next time. Thanks
Great insight, Thank you! Question: Is it easy to inflate/deflate and how much space does it take up when deflated. Weight? Thank you’re advance.
it takes about 15 minutes to inflates and put together. When stored it comes out to two small bags which fits in the back of my wife's jeep very easy with the 15hp Suzuki. It weighs in at 68 pounds before the motor per the spec's. Great awesome boat, at half throttle was very exhilarating.
Great insight, Thank you! Question: Wondering if this inflatable is easy to inflate - deflate and store when not in use, aboard a 36’ sport cruiser. How much space does it take up when deflated. TIA..
See my other reply
Looks awesome, can you fit it in the back of the truck without deflating it.
Actually I’m. It sure. I have it on a trailer right now as I just installed the motor.
Congrats on getting the new boat. What happened to the 420LX?
Still have the 420lx, trying the 340lx out now!!! Love these boats.
Thanks. You covered alot. I went 2 miles out in 5' swell today in my 300Lx. Had it for a month as my tender. Absolutely stoked about it.
That,s Awesome, just got a 340LX and plan to do some rough water tests on it also. Its a little shorter then my 420LX so super excited to try it out. These things are awesome little boats.
So many people having trouble with the decks leaking. It doesn’t sound like you’ve had this problem?
Not yet but definitely watching for it. Thanks for the heads up.
