    Hi sir. You said, this motor can lay down on three sides. But the owners manuel says "Raise the tiller handle and rest the motor on a case protector with the port side down" on 45 th page. Maybe the manual I read is for the old models. You ll made me very happy , if you could give me information about it . Thank"s a lot 😊🙋‍♀

      Best advice would be to follow your manual, I have learned that throttle side down and should have tabs to protect it from getting scratched.

      I also noticed on my Suzuki 15 hp that it has those same protective tabs on the rear and opposite side however I only lay it down throttle side. If you find out it can be used on three sides let me know as it looks like you can.

    Dude, we still have nightmares of bottom paint! Awesome rusults, and yes, that is ablative paint. The power washer got a lot of the ablative paint off on our boat. The flaking barrier paint is what we spent so much time sanding.

    I went to use my 380S today for the first time, put the wheels on, then my 8hp Merc. Started wheeling it to the water (15ft away) and the transom bar bent where the wheel attaches on one side, then a few feet later the other side bent. The sand was a bit soft but I’m shocked this happened. It’s rated for up to a 20hp motor and that lower transom bar just folded inwards… is there a heavy duty version of the transom bars? These clearly have the attachment for the wheels so I assume they’re rated for the weight…

    Thanks for all your informative reviews! I've had a Takacat 380LX since 2021 and it has been exceptional I previously used Zodiac and Achilles boats but the catamaran hull design allows planing at about 7 mph or a little less, which is remarkably efficient compared to my prior boats. I have a tohatsu 6hp four stroke (57lbs) and a Yamaha 15 hp 2 stroke (85lbs). I'm able to plane with 2 onboard with the 6hp to about 12mph- (I'm only 140 lbs), alone I reach 14mph, but this is likely due to insufficient prop pitch as I reach max rpm at mid throttle- I'll be trying a 9" pitch prop soon for when I go alone as the light weight makes it effortless to put on and pull off. With the Yamaha, I reach 22mph alone and 16 to 18 with up to 4 onboard. I may try to get a tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke as a better 2 person alternative.

    Hi - how do you like the 6hp on that boat? I have a custom built one from the mfg coming and trying to decide on a motor. Been debating a 9.8,9.9 or a 20hp. If the 6hp works, maybe the 9.8 is plenty. I had a 15 footer made in HD material for Alaska waters to go out in the shallow bays and rivers so it's a little heavier than a 420lx but not that different from a 460lx.

    • @deckswateradventures9201
      @deckswateradventures9201 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would go 9.8 if possible!!!

    • @MrJcjet
      @MrJcjet 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll be buying new from the dealer so I can choose any size and the prices are close enough that I don't mind jumping up to as big as 20hp. Since the 9.9, 15, and 20hp are all the same motor it seems like the choice is between 9.8 that's about 20lbs lighter and 20hp that's heavier but has extra power if I ever really need it. If the 9.8 will be enough though I'd rather have the lighter weight. The $600ish savings is nice too. I'd just hate to get out in a tide current or wind and not have enough power. I'm in Alaska and we get 30 foot tide changes every day and the current can be as high at 5kts in the inlets. But your boat looks like it did great with 6hp.

    • @deckswateradventures9201
      @deckswateradventures9201 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrJcjet wait your talking about the 420lx I would go 20hp if portability isn’t and issue since 20hp motors are heavy. I used the 6hp BC it was light and easy to transport. I now use a new 15hp Suzuki on my 420lx.

    • @MrJcjet
      @MrJcjet 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deckswateradventures9201Yes. Mine is a 4.5 meter version with slightly bigger 50mm side tubes than the takacat model. I had it made direct from the mfg and shipped to me to be a little more heavy weather ready because the Alaska waters are so cold and remote that a failure can be legitimately life threatening I'll also use it with a rowing frame on the big rivers here like a cataraft. I think it'll be an excellent dual purpose boat for exploring fjords on calm days, salmon fishing along the coastal areas, and floating the rivers. Just need a motor at this point. I think I'll probably go for the 20hp and deal with the extra weight. Do you feel like the transom is okay with that weight on it? That's one of my concerns - can the boat handle the force on the tubular style transom? It's a new design to me that I've never had before. I've found your videos really helpful!!

    My Takacat is rusting! The transom tubes of the open transom are made of stainless steel 304 (V2A) (also for cost reasons). The pipes show ugly rust after a short time in a salt water environment. From my point of view, the maintenance is very time-consuming and is not reasonable for me. Unfortunately, I only found out about this disadvantage of the high maintenance effort after the purchase. For me, this product is not recommended for salt water environments. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the Takacat 340 LS for the above reasons. It does not meet my expectations and, in my opinion, is only partially suitable for my application as a full time yacht tender. I quote from Takacat's care instructions: 1. A first care step when driving in salt water is washing the transom tubes at the end of a trip with fresh water (fresh water) including thorough drying. 2. The insides of the transom tubes can be pulled through with an extra-long bottle brush. 3. If corrosion has formed, it can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner. 4. If you drive permanently in salt water, it is advisable to spray the transom tubes and optional slip wheels with a seawater-resistant stainless steel protector. Did you experience similar issues? Best regards Xaver

    • @deckswateradventures9201
      @deckswateradventures9201 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I dont have this issue as with anything in salt water, it will corrode fast. I use a Xps Anti-Corrosive Multipurpose Lubricant anytime I put any of my boats, jetskis or paddle boards in salt water. If you google it you can find it online and it works well for me. I know there are many of types of sprays you can purchase to help with preventing corrosion. I have seen this with sailboats, powerboats and many of style of boats when running consistently in salt water. Best practice on any boat is to use Saltaway wash after every use. Even my big boats have started to rust on parts when in salt water when I didn't use a saltaway wash. You can google that also and find many of options. The key to fighting corrosion with salt water is preparing for it and cleaning it afterwards. hope this helps. Ping me if you need anymore information.

    Hey Deck, really appreciate your videos. Like you, I’m no spring chicken (70) who appreciates the beauty of simple and easy after years of launching, cleaning, repairing a large boat. I have an old Tohatsu 5 hp 2 stroke. Will that adequately power the 300 series TacaCat with (primarily) 2 adults and some gear? I noticed that ur new 6 hp was insufficient for ur needs while powering your 420 and hesitate to buy a 420 if I’ll be forced the fight the added weight of a larger engine. Also, will the 300 series accommodate a sun canopy? One more Q: have u found a way to get some back support while operating the TacaCat? You seem like a man with the vigor and excitement of boy. Don’t lose that!

    • @deckswateradventures9201
      @deckswateradventures9201 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donald, thank you for your questions. I think a 5 to 8 hp is perfect for the 300 series. I notice with my 15hp on the 340lx that it was to much hp with just one person on it and perfect with two. I wish I had kept the 6hp however I sold it. Lets talk about the back rest, boy do I wish there was a way to have a back rest cause after an hour or so riding around my back does get very tired and I have found no options for it. I am looking at some idea's to add a PVC rail sliding kit to it so I can add a aluminum bench seat however that's in R&D right now and just toying with the idea. Finally, about the sun Canopy, yes on amazon you can order a Sun Canopy that glues down, I actually ordered one but ended up using it on my aluminum boat instead. here is a link to the one I ordered and comes with hardware to glue down to the boat. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MW4T8Z9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Hope this helps, let me know if you have anymore questions as I love my takacat. if you looking to purchase a takacat please hit up www.bobjohnsoncity.com/ and tell them I sent you as they may give you a discount!!

      it takes about 15 minutes to inflates and put together. When stored it comes out to two small bags which fits in the back of my wife's jeep very easy with the 15hp Suzuki. It weighs in at 68 pounds before the motor per the spec's. Great awesome boat, at half throttle was very exhilarating.

    Great insight, Thank you! Question: Wondering if this inflatable is easy to inflate - deflate and store when not in use, aboard a 36’ sport cruiser. How much space does it take up when deflated. TIA..

    Looks awesome, can you fit it in the back of the truck without deflating it.

    Thanks. You covered alot. I went 2 miles out in 5' swell today in my 300Lx. Had it for a month as my tender. Absolutely stoked about it.

    So many people having trouble with the decks leaking. It doesn’t sound like you’ve had this problem?
