In the big picture, synthesis means - putting together, summarizing, forming a whole of several details, ideas, concepts, etc.

Synthesis, natural or artificial production of chemical compounds from elements as well as other chemical compounds that react with each other. Syntheses most often take place in stages, as starting substances by chemical reaction with other starting substances form isolable or non-isolable intermediate products, which in several synthesis steps can react with other intermediates and form end products. In basic science, synthesis has had special importance for organic chemistry's total synthesis of natural substances, whereby simply compound starting materials are allowed to react chemically or enzymatically (using microorganisms) in several synthesis steps in order to thereby provide unambiguous evidence for the chemical structure of substances.
