Here is some food for thought: As an outsider, who has known of Cheng Yi for several months, I have been on an emotional rollercoaster (disbelieving, indignant, disconcerting, shock) ever since I started to learn more about him. Some of my past comments here aimed to correct seemingly misinformation, criticize. I used words such as snobbish, which I would normally not use on someone or something I do not know first hand. As I said before, we are wired to react that way. Even though I have inadvertently seen the latest insulting messages first hand, I still could not believe (after the shock) because I never saw such things before (I think it may have a lot to do with the fact that I am seldom on social media). So I could imagine how the fans, who love Cheng Yi dearly, feel. Having said that, the latest incident finally got me out of my emotional overwhelm. My analytical brain kicked in. Again apologies for the unsolicited suggestions: I was wondering if it might have been better to just leave the offensive messages on and let more people see them. It would have been emotionally devastating. But would it not have been "the straw that broke the camel's back" and there may be an official investigation due to the outcry from the public. Some people like to use freedom of speech to justify their abusive remarks. But they must learn that freedom of speech comes with responsibilities. You can not use it to slander other people. I have read some of the borderline remarks from those who have given a one star review. Some of them are beyond being rude. Now that my analytical brain finally has taken over, if I were the fans, I would compile the ones that are clearly personal attacks and attacks against the drama to let as many people see them as possible, especially those who love mysterious lotus casebooks. If they could make the public so fed up with this type of behavior and start to denounce it, someone in charge will act eventually. Again, it will be emotionally devastating. They may "lose the battle but win the war". Think of this way, do the loyal fans really think that these comments would make his viewers like Cheng Yi any less? Do they think people who have a lot of negative thoughts in mind would be happy? I do not think so. Anyone who does not believe it, try to think of someone you do not like day in and day out and see how you would feel. That would be the consolation for the loyal fans. If someone's cognition is so low, the person literally may act like a crazy dog and they do not want to be near him. It is simply not worth it, no matter how hard it is not to react. I am sorry to say that It is really a very unfortunate situation, but I do think that any emotional reaction from Cheng Yi's loyal fans would make it worse. If I were them, I would literally ignore those people and let the website sort it out unless it would truly damage the reputation of either Cheng Yi or the drama itself. If that is the case, those people will suffer the legal consequences for character assassination. The best way forward for Cheng Yi's loyal fans is to think strategically. I understand that "Shu Ju" is one important element, Personally, I think that a positive image is equally important. Public perception cannot be overestimated. We all have our own version of reality. The first step towards positive image building is for Cheng Yi's "Guo Guo" to differentiate themselves from both fans of other actors/actresses and Cheng Yi's other fans. By building their own brand, they are less likely to be affected by other fans' behaviors. In addition, even though they are all volunteers, given the size of Guo Guo, it is still important to have a clear vision and mission. They are special after all. It does not have to be formal. All they need to do is to agree upon sentences as vision (what to do, how to do it, and why to do it). Then they could create a mission (to support Cheng Yi. What are some of the most valuable things for them to do for such support?). They actually already have some good ones (in one of the songs that the fans have created for him). Given how talented this group is, I am sure they could come up with some really good ones. They do not need to call them vision or mission. It would be a fun activity to take everyone's mind off the challenging situation now. Keep posting them on super chat to remind everyone. They are already doing it anyway to support Cheng Yi to bring creativity, artistry, quality and integrity etc. back to his entertainment world. This exercise is only to help them all think through what they have been doing systematically. This is one way to avoid constantly being manipulated by some unscrupulous people and prevent their emotional brain from taking over when challenging situations occur. It will also make it easier to plan activities that can kill two birds with one stone and less likely to act or react randomly. Being methodic does not mean no spontaneity or creativity, it only means more focused and using less time to get more things done. They themselves will also be inspired by those positive messages and to be happy, which is what Cheng Yi wants for them. If I were them, I would always keep in mind that when Guo Guo community has a positive image, other fans will react by doing things they should not do. Having learned about Cheng Yi's entertainment world for several months now, I know how challenging it is to do it. But this is for Cheng Yi. The best strategy is to document and report. Cheng Yi seems to be one of the most extraordinary gentlemen I have ever come across. It's easy to extol his qualities without sounding boasting as I said before. You just did it in this video. I think outsiders sometimes may have a better picture of what's going on. I hope you could share them with those who could influence his younger fans. I personally do think he and his true loyal fans have the most to lose by the seemingly meaningless debates on ranking or dramas etc.. I have seen a couple of international ranking already. Cheng Yi is way up there as number 1. I only have Cheng Yi's best interest in heart. I'm rooting for all of you from across the ocean.
