Really liked this, especially how the emotions of Mikey were reflected in the camerawork. Going from the jarring change from largely stabilized shots to back-to-back handheld was a really good addition, made it feel like the audience was really in there with him, and your overall work with composition was great. I'd love to see more work from you!

Wow…somehow 12 minutes passed by and I didn’t even notice…meaning there was so much conveyed in this story with so little but somehow the perfect amount of words and silence. I half expected this film to be a silent film when I first saw the black and white, and I do think that with the clever shots, framing, and movement, it could have been a silent film if you wanted it to be. For some reason, the cuts at the earlier conversations (at the train station and the phone call) really “tickled my fancy,” if you will; I found it a clever way to show the passing of time and, if I read into it, the investment and strengthening of a relationship between the two…which would explain why Mikey made the decision to become an accomplice. I would also note that at times the camera felt like a documentary in that the hand-held camera movement, particularly when Mikey first got on the train and then at the end, created a connection with the audience. The final shots where he’s staring out at the cityscape with an air of resigned acceptance and reflection of how he got to that point in life…very introspective. AND of course I can’t *not* mention the coloring, the dichotomy of the innocent 4:3 grayscale to almost suddenly neon pink and blue had me shook, which I’m sure was the intention. All in all, so much to unpack and discuss (which we certainly did in Mr. Enriquez’s class), there is much to appreciate

Of the three shorts we were shown, this one was my favorite. I liked the symbolism of the red/blue lighting in the apartment to represent Mike's blue blazer (seen later) and the blood of the person that Abby killed. I also love how even before the film switches from being black and white to full color, you can see blood on the back of Abby's hand before they enter the room and Mike gives her the wine bottle (6:33).

Well done! Your cinematography and still shots are very clean and well-positioned--they remind me of Wes Anderson. I especially love how you hinted at the plot twist with added color and enlarged screen size. I hope I can see more films from you in the future. Mr. Enriquez says hi!

Beautiful shots in the beginning, they were simply beautiful. The use of color as some sort of symbolism felt somewhat deep. The change of color and tone felt pretty serious, as things became very serious after the first shot that showed a slight bit of color. The ending shot and credits scene looked beautiful. The subtle deception of Abby in the video was very well thought out. Video was well made. Mr. Enriquez is making me write a comment here, he says hi. -Jazz

I really liked the cinematography throughout the film. I especially like the color grading in the last few scenes. The quick transition of mood implemented by the new additions of color was also very interesting to watch. In addition, the play on words for the title/character "St.abby" is also very smart since it foreshadows later parts of the story in an unexpected way.

I really enjoyed the plot twist of what seemed like a romance film in the beginning. The transition in shot styles, camera stability, and music all worked beautifully together to establish the tone. The actor's body language also stood out to me, such as slight glances, clasped hands, or consistent movement of the legs, which helped enhance the overall story.

Super well-executed film with excellent cinematography and left me with a lot of questions in the thought-provoking and intriguing way. I really like the intention behind the use of color throughout the film. This is how I interpreted it: black and white for innocence (almost a fictional, ideal world Mikey wants), the one to two color palette for the emotions present during that scene, and full color for confronting reality. I really enjoyed this film, and I'll be looking forward to more!

Sharifi NEVER MISSES omg. Everything about this is so mesmerizing, from the narrative, to the composition, to the colors, to the juxtaposition. I genuinely love everything about this short film. My attention was grabbed the entire way through.

  • @DamperHai12

The camera angles and the shots taken were just amazing. The color grading at the end was also brilliant. Actor presents a large amount of body languages for it better to understand. After rewatching it myself, I find the dialogue a little more easier to understand (can’t hear it before). The changing of color reminds me of The Great Buddha+ (again, it’s a great movie), there, the color represents the difference of upper and lower classes. Here, I think it is more of a mental state change which I do find logic does not apply to me here. I do not understand how does he agree of doing what she told her to do. Overall, I really liked this film especially the techniques used.

I really enjoyed the way the video went from black and white to full color! The aspect ratio was also interesting at the beginning, it reminded me of a scene from the grand Budapest hotel, and the acting was really well done ^^

The cinematography and compositions of this film were very well done. Each shot feels measured and conveys the mood of the story very well. The sudden change in color halfway through the film is nicely executed. The actor Mikey also gave a very convincing performance.

This was such an amazing short film, the sudden change in the film’s atmosphere and overall feel was great. I like the use of the 4:3 aspect ratio in the beginning with the black and white and the change to a normal aspect ratio and color. I am so glad I was able to watch this film and that I didn’t miss it.
