Loro Ciuffenna is a small town surrounded by lush nature, which hides a treasure right in its center: an ancient mill still in operation
Of Etruscan origins, this citadel was initially called only "Loro", in honor of the laurel trees. The word "Ciuffenna", which refers to the river that divides the city in two and which supplies energy to the numerous mills and oil mills that populate the surrounding hills, was added much later, in 1862. The village is a pleasant discovery to explore. strictly on foot.
Parish church of San Pietro a Gropina 774 a.d. it is the oldest Romanesque church in Tuscany. It is located just outside the village and it is worthwhile to experience the mystical air that you breathe. The parish includes the ancient early Christian church and the Lombard one.

✱🌿The toponym is attested for the first time in 1050 as Loro, from the Latin laurus, laurel. Ciuffenna is the name of the nearby stream, mentioned in 1037 as Iofinne and according to some derived from the Roman personal name Clufennius of probable Etruscan origin, according to others directly from the Etruscan cefa, doe. The name of the stream was added to that of Loro in 1862.
✱ 🌰🍞Typical crop of the area is the sulfur bean (Zolfino), so called for its yellowish color that recalls that of sulfur. From the mountain come the chestnuts, which can be seen grinding in the mill of Loro, together with that of the grain. In the hamlet of Gorgiti a delicious bread is baked, which comes from the combination of local flour and water.
