My first jiu jitsu tournament ever 2023 White Belt
Tap Cancer Out Tournament competing at light heavyweight
Match ended 2-2 with my opponent winning by an advantage.
Not sure about the rules. I thought at 3:50 I would get 2 points for getting on top. Thoughts?

Great match. Planning on competing in December. Looking for any tips.
This was awesome
Currently do wrestling But would love to try bjj 1 day What is average age pple usually start?
Most people I would say try it in their 20s. Don’t worry about it just try it!
Excellent match! Thanks for posting 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤙🏽
Great match!
Hell yeah
Awesome match. Great effort from both opponents.
Nice back and forth!
Great job for your first tournament. 3:50 wasn't a take down because he was on his knee. If he was standing when you took him down you would have been correct and been scored 2 points. OSS
Great job to both!
watching this makes me wanna go back to competing but i'm scared now because i'm a blue belt lol and throughout my white belt i always had to move up in weight classes. still managed to place! in total of my white belt competitions I gotten three golds two silvers and two bronze i believe!
Its pretty common thing that people are less willing to compete after they get higher belts. As a white belt you feel there is nothing to lose
Good wrestling
Nice work fellas
Good job guys. That was a very close fight.
Thanks for sharing
How was the overall experience? Thinking about taking a stab at the next grappling industries tournament coming up.
It was awesome man. You’ll never regret putting it all on the line and competing
4:43 bro in the back just hit a clip
Very good job to both of you!
Thought the guy in the black gi won this tbh
Everyone doing tournies at fancy places, mine are always on an indoor soccer field
not bad for your first tournament! you had a few opportunities to easily get the guard open when standing by just putting you knee into his butt, putting pressure and pushing down on one of his legs. not sure how he won the match, but good battle.
good job
Love it! Much more technique than my first ever comp. Well done lads
How long had you been training for before you went to this tournament? I wanna compete in October but haven’t really started yet (I’ve done a 6 wk course but haven’t been able to train for 2 wks)?
I had been training consistently for about 5 months before that match.
Good effort. I started this year, 7 lessons in now. I hope I can match your effort when I compete down the track.
Nice single leg
good match!!!
Sorry brother which competitor are you? The tall guy in white gi is very tentative. I had a similar appearance in my first jitsu match. Don't be afraid to engage, get close. Spend time grappling at slow-medium-faster pace in the gym for your tournaments. If you get unlucky and meet a wrestler who takes you down right away, so be it you will just have to get up from under him by using your guard. But jabbing the fakes from the outside is not jiu jitsu, it won't get you any positional advantage. Spend more time learning your distance which needs to be closer This is said from a completely non-judgmental perspective as this was my experience in my first tournament 5 months ago as well. As ive done more tournaments nerves have become slightly better over time. Competing is great for learning these lessons.
I’m in the black gi. I think the main thing I needed to work on was opening and passing the guard. Plus everything else because I’m a white belt haha
@@joshlovsbball I’m right there with you dude. Yeah he had a surprisingly nice guard game after that initial stalling phase. You looked really solid for a white belt in first competition, keep it goin brother
What kind of camera? Super crisp!!
Canon R6!
Hey im looking to do jit jutsu Do i go to a martial arts gym. how long do I have to train to become part of tournaments?
Hey man! Look up Brazilian jiu jitsu gyms in your area. Try out a couple of classes and see if you like it. You can sign up for a tournament whenever but I’d recommend at least 6 months of training if you have zero grappling experience.
@@joshlovsbball I got 2 years worth of high school wrestling experience will that help me with jiu jitsu techniques?
Wrestling background definitely is an advantage if your going to start training bjj w/ no experience
AWESOME matches, i love the way TCO aranges everything it was my first ever tournament, that being said I saw your discription about not knowing why you didn't get 2 points at the 3:50 the reason for that is because all you were doing at that point was sprawling. guard passes only count for sliding through to mount but other than that AWESOME work! Keep training and looking up! NAO PARA! (Nao para means dont stop in portugese)
Solid effort from both guys.
I’m out of breath after watching this. You guys are barely breathing. Great match. I competed at Pan ams as white and blue belt 10 years ago… damn I’m old now. Time flies boys. Enjoy the journey.
Ur basically a D1 wrestling champ now
I called out Bo Nickal immediately after losing this match. He don’t want the smoke.
Hey brother, I was your opponent in this match! Great battle. Hopefully we can compete again in the future!
Thanks for a great match! Congrats on the win and ya let’s run it back!
Nice job for posting this !
How long will it take to move onto the blue belt and then purple belt?
You did good bro
seems like he was initiating a guard pull from his sprawl as you were countering and coming up on top. not sure and deff dont like advantages
What weight division were you in ?
194.5 lbs
100% should have been 2 pts for the sweep
Nice Single Leg X attempt, good match!
Congrats 🤙🏻
Nice work
Technically that was not a take down, if anything it looked like a reversal. I could see how you should've gotten an advantage point there though. It was a good match, especially since he wouldn't engage in the beginning. You stuffed his shot and came back with a nice takedown in the beginning there!
Thanks for the insight!
@@joshlovsbball TCO goes by IBJJF rule set if you're curious on scoring.
