You missed why I think is a crucial part of any plot review of this movie - the reason 𝘸𝘩𝘺 Rocky was cornered & eventually captured by the police. As you well know, he was only in that predicament because the two rival gangsters were plotting to kill Jerry on account of his crusade against organized crime. Rocky killed them in order to save Jerry’s life, & then was forced to shoot a cop during that subsequent gun battle with the police, with Jerry’s intervention being the only reason Rocky wasn’t killed by the police right then & there. To me, that - the bond between Rocky & Jerry was such that the former was willing to put himself in harm’s way multiple times in order to help the latter - is the central theme of this movie.
