Super Trooper 15: Steering in a New Direction
On this episode we tackle determining where the steering and track bar components will reside, not an easy task on this particular build. Midway through the episode I go on a snow wheeling trip in Gary's solid axle swapped Avalanche on tons and 40's, and we end up with a bit of carnage so you won't want to miss that.
Super Trooper 14: Getting in Touch with My Inner Fenders
After stretching the rear fenders I was left with giant holes in the back of the Trooper, so it was time to seal it up! I used some simple tools, sheet metal brake, Harbor Freight bead roller and shrinker/stretcher, to make new wheel tubs and shock tower covers. Follow along as the Super Trooper gets even closer to it's LS swapped, Super Duty axle, 40" tire, rock crawling, and jumping final form.

LS Swapped RX7 Burnouts?! What about the Trooper?
We are back, after minor detour from Super Trooper highway. A quick motor swap in my RX7 and the Trooper is back in the shop getting cut to pieces and welded back together. The rear air bump mounts get fabricated and welded in and the interior gets cut to pieces.
Super Trooper Part 12: Weldy Weld
In this episode I welded out the rear suspension components in preparation for putting the rear all together. Thanks to Jack from some slick camera work of the welding.
Super Trooper Part 11: Four Link
It's been awhile! I have been plugging away at the rear suspension and it's looking good. In this episode I go over the current state of the build and what happened to get there.
Super Trooper Part 10: Rear Suspension Design
This time around we have a few visitors to the shop, @miketheday and @steveshepard. We had torn the rear axle out of the Trooper in the last episode so we worked on suspension design and locating the new rear axle in the vehicle. We are going to be using a trailing arm setup on the rear suspension, mostly for style points. The rear quarter panels will need to be moved for tire clearance so we s...
Too tall for the street?! Super Trooper Part 9
In Part 9 we get a surprise visit from the police regarding the height of the Trooper. The rear axle and fuel tank get removed, and the Sterling rear axle gets prepped to go in.
Super Trooper Part 8
This time we mock up the front suspension links and cycle the suspension up and down.
40's and an LS in a Trooper: Part 7
This episode focuses on designing the front suspension and making the link brackets for our three link front suspension. This LS swapped Trooper is one step closer to sitting on it's new front suspension.
Super Trooper LS and Solid Axle Swap Part 6
I am building an LS swapped Trooper with Super Duty axles and linked suspension. In this episode I tackle the transmission crossmember!
Super Trooper Part 5
In this episode I drill the frame out and weld in inserts, then discover that the transfer case sits a bit too low.
Super Trooper Part 4, LS Swap Motor Mounts
In this episode we make room for the engine and transmission to fit closely to the body and design custom swap motor mounts for the LS engine.
Super Trooper Part 3: Framed
Now that we cut a bunch of stuff off I actually add something back! In this episode I cut a bunch of square tube and weld it into two framerails then attach them to the frame that we cut off in part two. Thanks to Josh for running the square tube over for me!

    I love watching your fabrication work, and I can't fathom why there aren't tens of thousands of people subscribing to your channel. I have to think that there's something seriously wrong with the TH-cam recommendation algorithm since there are other channels with less skilled fabricators with more subscribers. I just hope it's worthwhile for you - your work is really inspiring.

    Love what your are doing with your Trooper! I've dreamed of doing similar with one and setting up inside as an overland camping rig. Build and install slide out drawer units in back with counter for stove, fridge, sink. Put a sun 18"x36" roof in back of roof with seal to hole in clam shell tent floor mounted on roof rack. Clam shell tents are about 110-200lbs so would make rig a little top heavy, but at 100-150lbs are light enough to be lifted ooff by a couple of strong people when doing serious wheeling. Looking forward to seeing more of this build!

    • @ilovemybike
      @ilovemybike ปีที่แล้ว

      The overall plan with this is the ability to wheel some pretty tough trails, hit jumps, go 80 on the highway and get to remote camping sites and be comfortable. I want to do a slide out, cooling bench fold down on the larger rear door, roof top tent and some neat storage cubbies. The fridge/freezer is a must too. I have more updates coming soon.

    • @LHW-kg9cp
      @LHW-kg9cp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ilovemybike Thanks for reply! That's what I would love to have! First overland rig I saw was one of Andrew St. Pierre White's rigs in about 1996. He's built many, most with pop-top roof with bed platform hinged at windshield so person can stand in rear half of vehicle with bed up, and have a space between bad and back door for easy access to bed when bed is down. He doesn't use slide-out cooler / hob / sink kitchen, but does use side windows as storage compartments and hinged shelves on sides with access where windows were to cook, etc. Down side of this kind of setup is hinging roof bed / rooftop clamshell tent raise center of gravity alot. And making a hinged roof bed tent is quite complicated. But there are a few clamshell roof top tents that could be modified to have access from below thru a opening hatch in 4x4 roof. Doing this kind of clamshell roof top tent with some added hardware could be removed by a couple of people to allow user to do more serious wheeling. Feel free to let me know if you would like to discuss this more. Not sure there is a way to exchange email addresses privately here.

    • @ilovemybike
      @ilovemybike ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t speak to that directly as I cut the factory frame off, but I have done 10 or so LS swaps and I am confident you can get an oil pan on that engine that will allow it to fit.

    Yo really dope to see your project coming together, I’m working a 95 trooper I’m I interested in knowing more about the dimensions you used for the front part of your frame, do you think you could’ve avoided the frame redesign if you would’ve used leaf springs for the front ? Just curious about your opinion?

    • @ilovemybike
      @ilovemybike ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet you could have. I just wanted a clean surface to work from without having to cut all the factory brackets off. If I wasn’t trying to make it as low as I am with the drivetrain and solid axle swap I would have left the factory frame.
